II. Abut Firmware File Acquisitin and Mdem Update The CDM 760 Advanced High Speed Trunking Mdem is factry shipped with its latest versin f perating firmware. If yu need t update the mdem firmware, yu may dwnlad the firmware update archive file frm the Cmtech EF Data web site ( Yu may als receive the file via e mail frm Cmtech EF Data Prduct Supprt. Abut Firmware Numbers, File Versins, and Frmats: The Cmtech EF Data web site catalgues its firmware update files by prduct type (e.g., ruter, mdem, etc.), the specific mdel, and ptinal hardware cnfiguratins. The CDM 760 firmware dwnlad hyperlink appears as F x_Vyyy, where x is the revisin letter, and yyy is the firmware versin (e.g., V141 = Versin 1.4.1). Abut File Archive Frmats: Cmtech EF Data prvides its dwnladable files in tw cmpressed archive frmats: *.exe (self extracting) and *.zip (cmpressed). 1

OBSOLETE FIRMWARE FTP UPDATE PROCEDURES in yur user manual fr the instructins fr perfrming Vers thrugh firmware updates. III. Prerequisites fr the FW Ver Ethernet FTP Uplad Prcedure If yu prceed with the CDM 760 Ethernet FTP Uplad Prcedure, this guide assumes that: Yur CDM 760 is cnnected t a user supplied, Windws based PC running the latest versin f Java, and: The PC Ethernet prt is cnnected t the CDM 760 rear panel J4 MGMT RJ 45 prt (alternately, if the ptinal High Speed Packet Prcessr is installed and enabled, the P0 MGMT RJ 45 prt) with a user supplied hub, switch, r direct Ethernet cable cnnectin. The PC is running a cmpatible web brwser (fr peratin f the HTTP Interface). The PC serial prt is cnnected t the CDM 760 rear panel J3 REMOTE serial prt with a standard user serial cable. The PC is running a terminal emulatin prgram (fr peratin f the CDM 760 Serial Remte Cntrl Interface). Yu have nted the CDM 760 Ethernet Management IP Address using either the CDM 760 Frnt Panel r the Serial Remte Cntrl Interface. Yu may als use the HTTP Interface Admin Access page t review and recnfigure this IP Address as needed. Yu have dwnladed (r therwise received frm Cmtech EF Data) the latest available firmware update, and yu have extracted the firmware files int an accessible temprary flder (e.g., C:\CDM760) n the User PC. Yu have cnfigured mdem remte cntrl fr Ethernet r Ser+Ethernet cnfirm by viewing the Frnt Panel SELECT: Cnfiguratin Remte screen: Remte Cntrl:Ser+Ethernet Inband:Disable () 2

UPDATING FIRMWARE in yur user manual fr further infrmatin abut the required prerequisites and preparatins fr perfrming a Versin firmware update. IV. Use Windws Cmmand-Line t Perfrm the Ethernet FTP Uplad Prcedure D these steps: Typical fr all tasks that fllw type the cmmand withut qutes, and then press Enter t execute. 1. Use Cmmand line t send a PING cmmand t cnfirm prper cmmunicatin between the User PC and the CDM 760: Type ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx at the Cmmand line prmpt (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the CDM 760 Ethernet Management IP Address). The respnse shuld cnfirm whether the PC is prperly cnnected t and cmmunicating with the mdem. 2. Make nte f the active firmware image that the CDM 760 is running at present: Frm the CDM 760 Frnt Panel, use the arrw keys t view the SELECT: Utility Firmware screen. The tp line f this screen displays the running active image as ActiveImage:1 r ActiveImage:2. The FTP uplad prcedure will verwrite the standby image. 3. Use Cmmand line t transfer (FTP) the files frm the User PC t the CDM 760: Make sure that yu are active in the prper wrking flder (directry) that was already created fr this task if nt, type cd CDM760. Type "ftp xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the CDM 760 Ethernet Management IP Address). If Cmmand line prmpts yu fr a user name, ne is nt required. Press Enter t cntinue. The Cmmand line prmpt changes t ftp>. Type "put F zip F zip" at the prmpt (withut qutes) t begin the file transfer. See Appendix A. OBSOLETE FIRMWARE FTP UPDATE PROCEDURES fr instructins n updating CDM 760 mdems running FW Vers thrugh The file transfer prcess takes several minutes d nt pwer ff the PC r mdem during this time. Type "bye" t terminate the FTP sessin, and then clse the Cmmand line windw. 4. Use ne f these methds t verify that the PC t Mdem FTP file transfer was successful: Use the CDM 760 Frnt Panel After rebt, cnfirm that the Mdem Firmware Versin that displays n the CDM 760 Frnt Panel VFD tp level screen matches the firmware versin just laded. Yu may als review the SELECT: Utility Firmware Inf Image#1 and Image#2 screens fr detailed firmware infrmatin. Use the HTTP Interface Review the firmware versin n the Hme page, r the Image 1 and Image 2 cntents n the Status Firmware page: Use the Serial Remte Cntrl Interface Execute ne f the fllwing queries: Abbreviated <0/SWR? Use the HTTP Interface t Perfrm the Ethernet FTP Uplad Prcedure Fr Firmware Versin V1.4.1 and later, the Administratr may use the Admin Upgrade page t manage the CDM 760 Firmware Upgrade prcess: D the steps displayed in the Firmware Upgrade sectin f this page t transfer the extracted firmware update image ZIP file (available frm r Cmtech EF Data Prduct Supprt) frm the User PC t the mdem s Flash memry. Nte that Steps 6 thrugh 8 prmpt yu t use the Firmware Image Cnfig sectin f this page t finalize the prcess. VI. Select the Updated Firmware fr Mdem Operatin D these steps: 1. Use the CDM 760 Frnt Panel t make nte f the current Active Image n the SELECT: Utility Firmware screen: Firmware Images: ActiveImage: 2 Inf Select ( ) Then, n the bttm line, use the arrw keys t select Select. Press ENTER t cntinue: Current Active Image is #2 Next rebt, will use Image: #1 () 5

In rder t select the Image that was just updated t be active the next time yu rebt the mdem, yu must set that firmware image as the Current Active Image. Use the arrw keys t select 1 r 2. (In this example, Image #1 was just updated s, therefre, 1 is yur required chice.) Press ENTER. Alternately, click [Set Image1] r [SetImage2] in the Firmware Image Cnfig sectin f the HTTP Interface Admin Upgrade page: 3. The mdem next verifies the checksums f all the files that are being updated: Calculating checksums n selected Image. Please Wait This prcess takes several minutes. D nt turn ff the mdem during this time. When the prcess is cmplete, this message displays: Selected Image has been written. Rebt Mdem r <ENTER> t Cntinue. Press ENTER t cntinue using the mdem, r rebt the mdem s that, nce peratins resumes, the mdem is running the Current Active (Firmware) Image. VII. Rebt the Mdem Rebt the CDM 760 using ne f the fllwing methds: Fr a hard rebt Use the rear panel ON/OFF switch (r therwise discnnect the mdem pwer surce), and then recnnect the mdem pwer. Fr a sft rebt Click [Rebt Mdem] in the Firmware Image Cnfig sectin f the HTTP Interface Admin Upgrade page. Nte that, if bting int a new image and the Tp Card Applicatin has been changed, an additinal step ccurs as the CDM 760 dwnlads t a different flash memry. This additinal uplad takes apprximately tw minutes. Once the mdem rebts, the web brwser prmpts yu t re enter the User Name and Passwrd in rder t resume use f the HTTP Interface. The CDM 760 is nw perating with its latest firmware. The firmware update prcess is nw cmplete. 6
