Special Conditions Due to the nature of this position applicants must be prepared to work some unsociable and flexible hours (to include occasional evening work) and have access to an appropriately insured vehicle and hold a clean current driving licence. A full enhanced check via the Disclosure & Barring Service will be required for this post. 2 BACKGROUND This new post is part of Craven College's ongoing investment in business and community development, working with a successful and innovative team to optimise delivery, prepare for new opportunities and ensure excellent service is delivered to all our customers. MAIN JOB PURPOSE To lead and manage Tyro Training strategically in conjunction with the Scarborough Business Development Manager, to include the development of strong working links with employers and stakeholders to identify training needs and promote the Tyro and College offer. To develop new products and services, and manage the delivery of appropriate training programmes in order to maximise College income, maintaining effective systems and quality assurance throughout. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This job description is a guide to the duties you will be expected to perform. These may change in the future in line with the strategic direction and development of the College. To lead and manage Business Development, Training and Customer facing activity within the Skipton centre to establish and develop a programme of regular contact with employers and partners, and develop provision to meet identified needs; To lead on and contribute to the continuous development of working links and partnerships with employers, industry, other external organisations and stakeholders through the building of long term working relationships and the successful provision of appropriate services to meet the needs of employers and the wider community; To utilise and extend the Tyro database / CRM in order to develop client relationships and: Assist employers in identification of training needs within their organisation Promote the services and facilities of Craven College and Tyro Promote Workplace Learning and Apprenticeship provision To lead and manage the delivery of the College s Employer Responsive training offer in conjunction with the Scarborough Business Development Manager, assuring and managing quality through rigorous self-assessment, measuring impact and continuous planning for improvement;

3 In liaison with the Scarborough Business Development Manager, lead on functions situated in the Skipton centre which service both Tyro centres, including Marketing, Quality Assurance, Employer facing projects; Liaise effectively with the Business Development Manager in Scarborough, to ensure cohesive Business Development approaches and client support coverage support across the region; To manage and be responsible for the Tyro Skipton Budget, planning agreeing and delivering annual income, expenditure and KPI targets, including Commercial Fee income, Adult Education Budget and other funding streams, minimising expenditure wherever possible, putting in place appropriate interventions in order to maximise contract performance and value; To be responsible for the effective planning, organisation, administration and coordination of the Centre s provision; Ensure centre activity meets ESFA, ESF and financial audit requirements in line with published guidelines and policies; To share market research information and provide and promote appropriate training and services to meet the needs identified above, increasing understanding of demand, market and impact; To line manage designated teams including sales, business support, training and customer service in order to meet the needs of the centre, monitoring standards of customer service and quality of provision in line with Craven College quality assurance procedures; To lead on Employer focussed marketing, in conjunction with the relevant managers with regard to provision of promotional materials and publicity to market the services on offer ensuring marketing strategy incorporates approaches from both Tyro centres and Apprenticeships; To direct the route to market for a range of marketing/promotional activity to include e- newsletter, development of web-portal, development of materials, telesales, direct contact and other as appropriate; To lead on the costing and pricing of products, in conjunction with the Scarborough Business Development Manager to ensure Tyro s offer remains competitive while achieving income and contribution targets;

4 To negotiate service contracts with public and private sector organisations in liaison with the Director of Business and Community Development towards maximising income to the College; To identify and lead on the writing and submission of appropriate bids and tenders in line with the strategic direction of Tyro Training, in conjunction with Scarborough Business Development Manager, and where appropriate in association with the wider College; To understand and implement funding policy, quality frameworks and current priority agendas towards enhancing the College provision and maximising income using initiative to identify new and diverse sources of income generation/enterprise including where appropriate pursuance of tender/bid opportunities; To promote excellent teaching and effective learning across the Centre, and to disseminate and share good practice across the College; To maintain regular liaison / contact with the College s Apprenticeship Manager with regard to the with regard to the joint promotion of Tyro and Apprenticeships, ensuring a holistic approach to employer services; To maintain accurate records and work to agreed budgets monitoring progress towards targets within agreed deadlines and submit monthly performance related reports to the Director of Business and Community Development; To oversee delivery of specific projects as directed by the Director of Business and Community Development; You will be expected to be fully conversant with the College s range of equality and diversity and safe guarding policies and procedures, to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all learners and staff; To participate in the College s Appraisal scheme and undergo further professional development in line with the needs of the College; Any other duties commensurate with grade and status as may reasonably be requested.

5 PERSON SPECIFICATION The person we are hoping to appoint will meet all the following essential requirements and some or all of the desirable requirements. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS Qualified to degree or equivalent professional level; Recent relevant business and sales/marketing experience with sound understanding of business development techniques and effective client relationship management; Numerate, with an understanding of costing and pricing techniques; Computer literate, with the ability to interpret data, using word processing, database and spreadsheet packages and knowledge of new information learning technologies; Experience of instigating, developing and monitoring effective systems and procedures; Experience of dealing with employers, including small to medium sized organisations, large employers, public sector organisations and the voluntary sector; Knowledge of current developments in further Education, Higher Education and/or the industrial training environment, including relevant qualifications and distance and flexible learning; Sound understanding of funding bodies and specifically the role of the Skills Funding Agency; Awareness of regional and national strategies; Strong leadership skills and the ability to successfully motivate others; Excellent interpersonal skills including a pleasant and persuasive telephone manner; Ability to function effectively as part of a team; Excellent organisational and administrative skills; Ability and confidence to put forward new ideas and work on own initiative; Proven ability to manage sizeable projects working to a consistently high standard under pressure, to meet pre-determined deadlines and targets; Willingness and ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business; Willingness to undertake level 2 qualification in Numeracy & Literacy if not already held;
