1 JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Employability & Placement Coordinator LOCATION: Clapham/Vauxhall HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTABILITY: N/A RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Careers & Employability GRADE: Scale 6 MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB The role requires working in partnership with internal curriculum areas and external agencies to aid achievement, retention and progression into work related opportunities. 1. CONTEXT The post holder is responsible to the Head of Careers and Employability and contributes to the implementation of the Careers College and Skills Exchange strategic and operational aims by providing a professional customer excellence service to year old and adult learners undertaking employability challenges, careers academies, internships, work experience, volunteering and other employer related activities. 2. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES a) Develop current and reliable, information on employability activities, work experience and volunteering and support learners with their application. 2 b) Assess the placement & volunteering opportunities including visits to providers on behalf of learners and liaise with tutors on requirements for any mandatory course placements including study programme c) Liaise with the Head of Careers and Employability to develop a schedule of promotional & recruitment initiatives with learners about opportunities through induction sessions and co-ordinating these with curriculum staff. 3. Learners a) Recruit learners to employability challenges (London Programme), internships and other employer related activities e.g. guru workshops, visits throughout the year. b) To make arrangements for learners to be inducted in to work experience, prepared for external interviews and to have an up to date CV. c) Liaising with and advising students on issues relating to their placement, e.g. appointments, interviews, organisation visits, seminars and relevant workshops. d) Organise events for learners such as; recruiting learners to employability programmes/activities, learner presentations, employer visits and graduation ceremonies. 4. Employers a) Establish strong professional relationships with employers/partners in private, public and third sectors to develop employability challenges, internships, mentoring, work experience & volunteering opportunities for learners. b) Co-ordinate and administer the delivery of employability programmes and calendar of activities with members of the team, curriculum including the time line for the London Programme and Careers Academy. Ensuring that learners are well informed on the eligibility criteria of the Career Academies. c) Where involved with the Career Academies - Fully service board meetings as required for the Careers Academy Advisory Board meetings. d) To maintain and update the database of placement providers, industrial, commercial and public sector organisations on CRM and to keep employability and work experience records up to date as part of the Skills Exchange and to provide statistical information for reports as required to the Head of Careers and Employability and Director of Leaner Services. e) Maintain the flow of communication with key stakeholders to ensure work experience documentation is fully explained, responses to queries are effectively managed with a range of audiences including employers, curriculum, students and colleagues. f) To visit and assess placement providers where required. 3 g) Conduct surveys of employers (mainly SMEs) needs / willingness to provide work experience or internship opportunities including benefits for both learners and employers. 5. Health & Safety a) To develop training programmes for Learner Services staff to attend certificated health & safety programmes in order for them to undertake H&S checks with employers on behalf of all new employers offering placements or volunteering opportunities. b) To follow College procedures in relation to work experience & volunteering placement and to contribute to the development of relevant administrative systems including safeguarding, H&S, risk assessment, communication with employers, curriculum and learners. c) To register as a CRB checker, undertake CRB checking duties and assist students with the completion of CRBs. 6. Quality a) To monitor and evaluate employability challenges, work experience or volunteering placements by receiving and collating written review sheets from students, employers and course tutors, and to provide this information to the Head of Careers and Employability and Head of School in an appropriate format. b) To prepare documentation for audit, matrix and quality assurance purposes c) Submit monthly statistics and quarterly activity reports in a timely manner. d) Provide evaluations and outcome measurements documentation i.e. Careers Academies. e) Develop a process to track learners progress and maximise the marketing opportunities of their progression into employment. HE, enterprise or internal other. 7. Administrative a) Assist in the publication and marketing of employability programmes and work experience on Moodle. Lambeth Talk and college website. b) Representing Careers and Employability at internal forums and at external events. c) To ensure up to date knowledge of current Employability and Work Experience specifications documentation. General a) To comply with the requirements of College Policies and Procedures b) To be aware of the principles of safeguarding children and young people as they apply to the role with the College. Actively promote and implement the College s Safeguarding Policy c) To be responsible for working towards and maintaining the Matrix and Investor in People Standards. Includes being responsible for the implementation of the College s Performance Development Review Procedures, participating in the College s staff development and training schemes d) To be responsible for the adherence of the College's Single Equality Scheme and actively promote and implement the Scheme as it applies to the role within the College e) To be responsible for the implementation of and compliance with the College s Health and Safety policy f) To undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as may be required. Candidates should address these criteria when completing their supporting statement. Qualifications Experience and Knowledge 1. A recognised L3, or above, trade qualification 2. A1 and V1 Assessor or Verifier qualifications required or willingness to undertake 3. Level 2 qualifications in numeracy and literacy are also required or willingness to undertake. 4. Knowledge and understanding of current thinking and issues in FE and HE and how these relate to and impact on the area of work 8.
