POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Vice President of Partnerships, the Director will build and manage an integrated Continuing Education and Contract Training presence for the College. The Director will design and manage business planning for all Continuing Education and Contract Training operations and institute College-wide systems of accountability for the growth and expansion of net revenue generating activities at the College. Camosun College will be the training partner of choice for learners, government and industry. The Director of Continuing Education and Contract Training will lead this development by encouraging, supporting and managing operations such that a financial and educational contribution to Camosun College is assured. This will require working actively and

2 collaboratively with all academic schools and service departments at the college in order to develop a thriving net revenue generating capability. This entrepreneurial department will provide business planning support to the college community as well as devise and implement a centralized risk management function. This will be done in conjunction with Financial Services. A joint reporting will be established with the Deans of the Schools of Business and of Trades and Technology and the Director, Continuing Education and Contract Training regarding the Continuing Education/Contract Training activity and personnel related to these. Service capacity will be enhanced through contracted services, partnership agreements and joint ventures. The College has an operating budget of over $126 million. Across two campuses, Camosun offers more than 160 certificate, diploma, and bachelor s degree programs in arts, sciences, business, health and human services, trades, technologies, sport education, Indigenous studies and adult upgrading. The Continuing Education and Contract Training Department, with a regular complement of 14 continuing staff and gross revenue of $4 million, provides college-wide leadership in the development and coordination of Continuing Education and Contract Training at Camosun College. An entrepreneurial department, Continuing Education and Contract Training provides the college with a risk management oversight capability, a focus for its domestic revenue generating activity and centralized business planning. The department provides a mix of centralized and decentralized services and support. It is growth oriented.

4 B) JOB SUMMARY Reporting to the Vice President of Partnerships, the Director will build and manage an integrated Continuing Education and Contract Training presence for the College. Reporting directly to the Director are approximately 14 continuing staff. D) ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1. provides leadership to overall program and course profile for the department of Continuing Education and Contract Training; 2. identifies and responds to government, business, industry and the public s educational needs with high quality programs, courses, training materials and services; 3. develops growth and expansion activities, seeking out and securing additional net revenue generating activity and expansion with full accountability for financial results; 4. administers the department on a self-funded basis; 5. provides risk management and oversight for unfunded activities, including process review, developing business case, costing structure and sign off protocols; 6. ensures that decisions and processes are coordinated and communicated within the department, with other schools/divisions of the College, to the Vice President(s) and to the external community, as appropriate; 7. ensures the department s tactical and operational plans are developed and implemented; 8. provides appropriate accountability to the Board of Governors, the Provincial Government and the public;

5 9. provides consultation services to all schools/divisions of the college regarding business planning and contract services; 10. initiates, coordinates and interprets market research relevant to the business planning of the department with the goal of positioning the department competitively within the external marketplace; 11. provides a College resource for entrepreneurial activity, offering advice, support, planning, etc. to College departments; 12. participates in the preparation of the Divisional strategic plans; provides input into the development of the College s strategic plan; 13. ensures that policies and procedures for the department are developed, implemented and systematically reviewed; 14. determines and appoints the appropriate staffing mix to fulfill the mandate of the department; 15. provides leadership and direction to departmental personnel; ensures there is planned human resource development and performance review for employees to facilitate both short and long term success of the department in a competitive entrepreneurial environment; 16. ensures that the department s business plan is developed, implemented and monitored in keeping with the college s objectives, policies and procedures; 17. represents the College, Division or unit, internally or externally, as appropriate; 18. develops protocols regarding working across schools and departments. Willingness to travel as required. G) QUALIFICATIONS 1. Established professional credibility; Master s degree in a relevant field; and/or a combination of formal and informal education and experience with demonstrated professional credibility. 2. Minimum five years progressive and successful management experience in a range of senior and/or mid-level administrative positions with directly relevant experience in the development, delivery, management, and administration of training and consulting products and services in both post-secondary and private sector environments. 3. Demonstrated skills in negotiating complex educational, training and service contracts with public, private and community organizations and developing business plans. 4. Knowledge of the contract education and services environment as usually evidenced by having programmed and delivered educational services in the public, private and community and/or equivalent combination of formal and informal programming and adult education experience. 5. Experience in recruitment, selection and performance management. 6. Experience working complex organizations.
