Around this average reference there are lower cost or higher. The crop valorization may also vary between 14,000 euros to 35,000 euros for club s varieties. (Very) High labour costs : The minimum cost of seasonal labor is 11.6 /h all taxes included (8,80 /h net income for the employee). Specific situation for 2012 : Due to very bad crops for number of growers in different parts of France. Losses and difficulties ahead for some growers and acceptable profits for others. Poor benefits and return on assets last years for most of the French growers. 6

Strengths : Good soil and climate conditions (except 2012) High productivity and good labor skill Range of varieties and soils High average size orchards Half of the crop exported Research, experimentation and technical environment. Main challenges and future trends : Promote synergy, alliances, clustering between growers behind labels, local identity and market strategy, Gain new apple growers, Increase exports sales on growing markets : Asia, Middle East, Africa, and open new markets, Add consumption interest and value based on quality, sanitary security with collective label vergers écoresponsables, New plantings and investments in dynamic AC conservation, packing house, technology, Activate organizations and growers benchmarking, stimulate marketers with specific information due to ANPP, Lobbying for national support, means for crop protection, better rules and regulations, Lobbying for fair commercial relationship. 7
8 ANPP The ASSOCIATION NATIONALE POMMES POIRES is the French apples and pears producers and producers organisations association. About 160 direct members which means producers all over France. The main production areas are represented by their leaders. About tons of apples which represents 55% of the total French production and tons of pears which is 15% of the corresponding production The ANPP is a member of GEFeL which brings togetherall French fresh fruits and vegetables associations. It is also active in INTERFEL, the French association for fresh fruits and vegetables sector At the international level, it participates in both Freshfel and Wapa.
