1 Position Reports to Master Scheduler Planning & Optimisation Manager Company Synlait Milk Ltd Date: June 2014 Location 1028 Heslerton Road, Dunsandel, Canterbury Purpose This role is responsible for developing a production schedule for a single manufacturing site or a grouping of manufacturing sites, with an expectation of 25% plant-based activities. This role is the focal point for the production scheduling of finished goods and intermediate products within the Master Scheduling time horizon. In order to achieve an effective schedule, the Master Scheduler co-ordinates the DIRA volumes, Oceania cream and Westland milk swap requirements, working closely with the Tactical Planner to ensure regulatory and contractual obligations are met. Key Performance Areas Master Schedule Set-up and chair the weekly scheduling meetings with the manufacturing, scheduling and warehouse teams Generate a feasible Master Schedule, which is up to 6 weeks in advance Monitor milk holdover and identify and resolve scheduling issues Create, maintain and communicate the rolling Master Schedule for materials and resources for manufacture in alignment with S&OP established supply/demand plans and customer service levels Determine the out-of-balance conditions, identify alternatives and recommend actions to bring demand and supply back into balance Negotiate supply options with 3 rd party milk suppliers, the manufacturing team and the Milk Supply Manager as required Implement approved actions to redress the Master Schedule when unforeseen incidents impact SML s ability to meet the schedule Measure value stream performance to plan and drive actions to improve both master scheduled and non-master scheduled materials. Improvement action plans include challenging current replenishment and planning strategies to ensure that the most appropriate strategy is being used Provide cover for the Scheduler as required, including providing training of the AP standardiser model as required Master Scheduler PD June 2014 Page 1 of 6
2 Key Performance Areas Master Schedule (continued) Resolve and review change requests from customers, plants and suppliers to make appropriate schedule changes and minimise ATP issues Leadership Display the right leadership skills to run effective Master Scheduling discussions to drive timely decisions with (often) incomplete information Owns and leads the Master Scheduling/Value Stream Execution discussions with a cross-functional team to help gain alignment of the plan and the execution of the plan Build a strong team around them where members ideas and opinions are respected Develop a consensus between team members where possible whilst not delaying decision making timeframes Communicate and escalate issues that cannot be resolved within the scope of the Master Scheduling team Technical Expertise Implement the IT tools required to enable the Master Scheduling process Develop and troubleshoot the Master Schedule and resolve service level issues Access, analyse and interpret critical data, eg. actual sales, dependent demand, MRP settings, forecasts, inventory and detailed production schedules Team Work Be the focal point of contact for the production planning of finished goods and intermediate products within the Master Scheduling horizon Work closely with the New Product Development and Manufacturing teams to ascertain plant impacts and requirements when scheduling and manufacturing new products Work closely with the Scheduler to capture key information that feeds into the production schedule Build strong relationships between other departments to achieve work objectives Passing the Master Schedule to the Manufacturing Plant (or group of supplying Manufacturing Plants) for the production of finished goods and intermediate materials Work with others to contribute to team and group outcomes Demonstrate active support of Synlait Milk values and exhibit behaviours that are consistent with them Master Scheduler PD June 2014 Page 2 of 6

6 Qualifications, Skills and Experience Qualifications: A Bachelor s Degree in Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain or Business Administration is preferred CPIM or other Supply Chain Certification is a strong plus Experience: 5-10 years of production planning/execution, plant operations, logistics, inventory management or Supply Chain experience Working knowledge of M3 is preferred Skills: Strong problem solving and decision making skills The ability to prioritise and multitask in a changing work environment Strong written and verbal communication skills The ability to apply a well-developed understanding of business strategies and plant operations to the development of a Master Schedule that achieves the business objectives Health & Safety 1.
