8 Optimo Wall & Facade Systems Architectural Materials - Steel Substrate PVDF: Galvatite, hot-dipped zinc coated steel to BS EN : Grade Fe E220G with a Z275 zinc coating. Standard external sheet thickness 0.63mm, standard internal sheet thickness 0.4mm. Coatings - External Weather Sheet PVDF: 27 micron thick stoved fluorocarbon coating which has excellent colour stability even at temperatures as high as 120 C. Reverse side of sheet coated with a light grey polyester coating. The sheet is available in a plain finish. Coatings - Internal Liner Sheet Lining Enamel: 22 micron thick coating developed for use for the internal lining of insulated panels. Standard colour is bright white with an easily cleaned surface. HPS200 Plastisol: 200 micron thick coating used in areas where there is high internal humidity, or a corrosive environment. Stelvetite Food & Hygiene Safe: This is a 120 micron thick chemically inert polymer film bonded to steel suitable for cladding the interior of cold stores, food processing buildings and other hygiene applications. Reverse side of sheet coated with a light grey polyester coating. The sheet is available in a plain finish. Colours Available Optimo is only available in PVDF. The standard colours are silver metallic and white. Contact Kingspan Technical Design Bureau for availability of other colours. Seals Factory Applied Side Joint Seal All side joints have a factory applied seal fitted into the groove to automatically seal the joint between panels. Optimo panels are available with LPCB certification, with steel facings. 9 Optimo Wall & Facade Systems Architectural Guarantees & Warranties Kingspan will provide external coating and product warranties and guarantees on an individual project basis. Packing Standard Packing Kingspan wall panels are stacked horizontally (with weather sheet upward). Removable hot melt adhesive is laid between each panel. The top, bottom, sides and ends are protected with polystyrene and timber packing and the entire pack is wrapped in polythene. The number of panels in each pack depends on panel thickness, as shown in the table. Typical pack height is 1100mm. Sea Freight Fully timber crated packs are available on projects requiring delivery by sea freight shipping, at additional cost. Alternatively, steel containers can be used. Special loading charges apply. Delivery All deliveries (unless indicated otherwise) are by road transport to project site. Off loading is the responsibility of the client. Values have been calculated using the limit state method described in the European Recommendations for the Design of Sandwich Panels (ECCS document No.115, 2001), taking imposed loads, temperature and creep into account. 2. The allowable steelwork tolerance between bearing planes of adjacent sheeting rails is L /600, where L is the purlin spacing. 8. 11 Construction Application Standard Environment Wall & Facade LPS 1181 Grade A Optimo/Zero ODP/LPCB Wall & Facade Systems Ref No: 1/5.78/LPS-A Application The following specification is for the Optimo/ Zero ODP/LPCB insulated wall and facade systems laid horizontally or vertically on buildings with internal humidity class environments 1-4 inclusive. For internal humidity class environment 5 i.e. swimming pools contact Kingspan Technical Design Bureau. Optimo panels are Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) certified to LPS 1181 Grade A, available with a 60 minute firewall when one metre or more from a boundary condition. Materials & Coatings External Weather Sheet Substrate to be 0.63mm thick Z275 Galvatite hot-dip zinc coated steel to BS EN10147: External coating to be Corus UK Limited Colorcoat PVDF, 27 microns thick. Colour Metallic Silver or White. Insulation Core To consist of 80mm thick, closed cell, with zero ozone depletion (Zero ODP) and LPCB certified polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation. The auto-adhesive properties of the core bond the external and internal sheets together, and control the panel thickness achieved during manufacture. Internal Liner Sheet Substrate to be 0.4mm thick hot-dip zinc coated steel to BS EN 10147: Internal coating to be lining enamel, 15 microns thick. Colour - White. Reverse to have a light grey polyester coating. Seals Horizontal Panel Joint - Option B - Curtain Wall A SP3 extruded 50mm x 19mm aluminium transom snapped into a SP1 extruded aluminium mill finish pressure plate. SP3 transom to be polyester powder coated in a standard Syntha Pulvin colour. SP1 extruded aluminium mill finish pressure plate to be bed on 45mm wide PVC isolating tape and 2 runs of 6mm diameter butyl rubber and fixed with a single flat headed stainless steel stitching max 300mm c/cs. The SP3 transom (6.4 metres long) to be neatly site-cut to abut the vertical mullion section. Horizontal Panel Joint - Option D - Gasket Feature Running full length of horizontal panel joint - factory applied black EPDM gasket, Ref: SP11. Horizontal Panel Joints To be a tongue (male) and groove (female) type of joint with a factory applied weather seal located within the groove (female) section. In addition the panel joint to be stitched internally through the female external sheet at 250mm centres using SFS Intec IF1 6.3 x 75 or similar. Also a 0.63mm thick x 100mm wide lining enamel coated steel flashing is to fixed internally at 250mm centres. Junctions Junctions between the roof panel system and walls / penetrations insulated with PIR board insulation any gaps filled with Alfasbond FR fire rated gun applied canister urethane insulation. Internal face of panel to be air sealed along the full length by an unbroken 6mm diameter bead of gun grade sealant. Optimo Model Specifications Performance Thermal Insulation The panel must have a thermal transmittance (U value) of 0.35 W/m 2 K (England & Wales) and 0.30 W/m 2 K (Scotland), calculated using the method required by the Building Regulations Part L2 (England & Wales) and Building Standards Part J (Scotland). Fire The external and internal faces of the panel to be Class 0 in accordance with the Building Regulations when tested to BS 476: Part 6: 1989 and Part 7: The product has been tested in accordance with BS 476: Part 22: 1987 Fire Resistance and achieved 60 minutes integrity and 28 minutes insulation. Newton Aycliffe Report No. A The product has passed all the requirements of LPS 1181: Issue 3 wall lining test. Airtightness Overall airtightness for complete envelope less than 10m 3 /hr/m 2 at 50Pa. Fasteners Primary All primary fasteners must be self tapping, self drilling screws, manufactured from austenitic stainless steel, Grade 304 and fitted with a 16mm diameter bonded stainless washer with shallow head, either SFS Intec Irius headed type or Ejot Torx headed type. All fasteners to be located through the tongue (male) section of the panel. To comply with the requirements of BS 6399: Part 2: 1997, it may be necessary to provide additional fixings through the male section, in areas of high local suction. Through Fix Where panels have their male sections removed on site, they must be face fixed with a similar type of fastener. The fasteners must be covered by a flashing to maintain the concealed fix appearance. 397

12 Construction Application Standard Environment Wall & Facade LPS 1181 Grade A Optimo/Zero ODP/LPCB Wall & Facade Systems Ref No: 1/5.78/LPS-A Panel Bearers Panel bearers must be located at a maximum of 1500mm centres, ensuring that one is fixed at either end of the panel. All panel bearers must be fixed to the structural support member, with two number fixings located in the pre-drilled holes. The above relates to the start of the panel laying i.e. drip level and must be repeated wherever there is a break in panel laying (i.e. above window, doors etc.). Secondary Flashings to be stitched at 450mm centres (maximum) with stainless steel stitching screws, complete with washers and coloured low profiled heads. Where SFS Intec Irius headed main fasteners are used, Irius headed stitching screws also to be used. Intermediate Supports Intermediate supporting steelwork to have VJ1 EPDM 60mm x 10mm self-adhesive bubble gasket applied to vertical supporting steelwork and lapped over drip flashing. AWP fillers to be installed and bedded on silicone sealant at the horizontal joint location with bridging silicone seal applied between AWP filler and supporting structure. All internal flashings to be made from 0.4mm thick steel substrate, to the same specification as the inner sheet, Colour - White. All internal flashings to be air sealed at laps and along the full length by an unbroken bead of Scapa Tape 6mm diameter butyl runner sealant tape, Ref: End laps to be air sealed with Vapourflex or gun grade sealant. Panel Lengths Exact lengths to be determined by the cladding contractor from the steelwork drawing, but typically using 6000mm lengths. Construction Details Vertical Panel Joints Vertical panel joint to have VJ1 EPDM 60mm x 10mm self adhesive air seal bubble gasket applied to vertical supporting steelwork and lapped over drip flashing. All factory cut-edges of panels to have factory applied edge protection lacquer. PIR board insulation with any gaps between board and panels filled with Alfasbond FR fire rated gun applied canister urethane insulation. Vertical joints to be either: Optimo A - Top Hat Vertical panel joint to be an Option A top hat with insert flashing, to the same specification as the external weather sheet, weather sealed along the full length using two runs of Scapa Tapes 4mm diameter butyl rubber sealant tape, Ref: AWP fillers to be installed and bedded on neutral cure silicone sealant. Option B - Curtain Wall Feature Vertical panel joint to be a SP2 extruded 50mm x 22mm aluminium mullion snapped into a SP1 extruded aluminium mill finish pressure plate. SP2 mullion to be polyester powder coated in a standard Syntha Pulvin colour. AWP fillers to be installed and bedded on neutral cure silicone sealant. SP1 extruded aluminium mill finish pressure plate to be bed on 45mm wide PVC isolating tape and 2 runs of 6mm diameter butyl rubber and fixed with 2 No. flat headed stainless steel stitching max 300mm c/cs. Option C - Extruded Top-Hat and Insert Vertical panel joint to be a SP8 extruded aluminium 51mm wide top hat, weather sealed along the full length using two runs of 4mm diameter butyl rubber sealant with either 1.) A SP9 extruded aluminium insert, or 2.) A SP10 EPDM black gasket insert. SP8 top-hat and where chosen the SP9 insert to be polyester powder coated in a standard Syntha Pulvin colour. Where the horizontal tongue and groove joint meets the vertical joint, neutral cure silicone sealant to be locally applied to seal junction. Option D - Extruded Top-Hat and Insert Nominal 29mm x 21mm SP4 push- in black EPDM fir-tree gasket sealed with site applied neutral core silicone, closing off junction with horizontal joint. Flashings All external flashings to be made from 0.63mm thick PVDF coated to the same specification as the outer sheet of the panel. Colour - Metallic Silver or White. All flashings to be weather sealed at laps and along the full length by an unbroken bead of Scapa Tape 4mm diameter butyl rubber sealant tape, Ref: All flashings to have butt straps and sealed with two unbroken runs of Scapa Tape 9mm wide x 3mm thick butyl rubber sealant tape, Ref: AWP fillers to be installed and bedded on silicone sealant at the horizontal joint location with bridging silicone seal applied between AWP filler and supporting structure. All internal flashings to be made from 0.4mm thick steel substrate, to the same specification as the inner sheet, Colour - White. All internal flashings to be air sealed at laps and along the full length by an unbroken bead of Scapa Tape 6mm diameter butyl rubber sealant tape, Ref: End laps to be air sealed with Vapourflex or gun grade sealant. Panel Lengths Exact lengths to be determined by the cladding contractor from the steelwork drawing, but typically using 6m lengths up to a maximum 7200mm length. Secondary Supports The panel must be limited to a maximum of 2m. The secondary support system must be a Fire Wall system, which contains slotted connections and nylon washers to relieve stresses induced by thermal expansion. 398

13 Construction Application Standard Environment Wall & Facade LPS 1181 Grade A Optimo/Zero ODP/LPCB Wall & Facade Systems Ref No: 1/5.78/LPS-A Construction Requirements Steelwork Tolerance The steel frame must be made and assembled to an accuracy of L/600 between fixing planes of adjacent sheeting rails, where L is the rail spacing and generally to BS 5950: Part 2: Handling and Installation Care must always be taken with off-loading, handling and installation of un-profiled PVDF coated steel faced architectural wall panels to avoid denting and scratches. Packs of panels should be single-stacked only on site. All fasteners and seals to be of correct specification and installed as indicated on the project construction drawings. Installers must take care, not to over-drive fasteners, as this would result in dimpling of panels at supporting steelwork. Use of a depth locater is mandatory. Site cut panels must provide accurate, true lines with no distortion, panels to be cut with powered reciprocating type saw with correct blades and all exposed site cut panels to be treated with a suitable edge protection lacquer. Cut openings for outlets, vents, flues etc. to be the minimum size necessary. Remove all swarf and any foreign matter immediately from the external surface of panels. Panels must be assembled so that joint widths are consistent and parallel. Installation All fasteners and seals to be of correct specification and installed as indicated on the project construction drawings. Site cut panels must provide accurate, true lines with no distortion, panels to be cut with powered reciprocating type saw and all exposed site cut panels to be treated with a suitable edge protection lacquer. Cut openings for outlets, vents, flues etc. to be the minimum size necessary. Remove all swarf and any foreign matter immediately from the external surface of panels. Panels must be assembled so that joint widths are consistent and parallel. Safety The contractor is to determine and use a safe method of working throughout the installation and construction period, which complies with HSE & CDM requirements. Number and location: For panels: As determined by Clause 197A, but with each panel fixed to each support using not less than one fastener located through tongue section, as recommended by cladding manufacturer. Internal face of panel to be air sealed along the full length by an unbroken 6mm diameter bead of gun grade sealant. Stitch the male/female joints on internal face using SFS Intec IF1 6.3 x 75 or similar screws at 250mm centres. Cover joint with flat flashing as Clause 312A and fix to face of panels along each edge using stitching screws at 250mm centres. The panel must be limited to a maximum span of 2000mm. The secondary support system must be a Fire Wall system, which contains slotted connections and nylon washers to relieve stresses induced by thermal expansion. 197A - Attachment Determine the number and location of cladding fasteners recommended by the cladding manufacturer to resist wind loads calculated in accordance with BS 6399: Part 2 Standard Method and BS 5427: Part 1. Calculate wind loads on roof and wall cladding appropriate to location, exposure, roof height, building shape and size in accordance with BS 6399: Part 2 Standard Method and BS 5427: Part 1. To comply with the requirements of BS 6399: Part 2: 1997, it may be necessary to provide additional fixings through the male section, in areas of high local suction. Through Fix Where panels have their male sections removed on site, they must be face fixed with a similar type of fastener.
