4 , - + Wake County resdents can take ther scrap tres to both the North Wake and Feltonsvlle Mult- Materal Drop-off Facltes. Fees are as follows: For more than fve tres no fee wll be assessed so long as you have a North Carolna Scrap Tre dentfcaton Number and Certfcaton Form. f you do not have such a form, a fee of $50/ton wll be charged at dsposal. For fve tres or less there s no charge for passenger vehcle or trltck tres. + The Envronmental Protecton Agenc! estmates that every year 250 mllon tres are throyn away - about one tre for each person. f bured n a landfl, scrap trk can take up.ab much as 10 percent of landfll space.. + Scrap tres that are stockpled or llegally dumped can create health and safety hazards, ncludng mosquto nfestaton that can spread dsease. 6 + Car or lawn moker batteres - lead-acd batteres -wll be accepted for recjclng at both the North Wake and Feltonsvlle blult- Materal Drop-off Facltes. + Leakng or broken batteres wll not be accepted, but can be dsposed of safely at the County s permanent Household Hazardous Waste Collecton Faclty. The permanent Household Hazardous Waste Collecton Faclty s located at the North Wake Santary Landfll and s open the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month from 7 a.m. untl 4 p.m. Call the News & Observer s CtyLne at category #2735, for further nformaton., + Car and lawn mower batteres, or leadacd batteres, contan lead and sulfurc acd, two hazardous wastes you don t want mproperly dsposed. Battery casngs sometmes crack and can leak these chemcals onto the ground... eventually contamnatng the groundwater. Leakng bat ery acd also creates fumes that can rrtate the eyes or burn the skn. + By recyclng lead-acd batteres, the sulfurc acd can be reprocessed or sent, to a lcensed faclty for dsposal. The lead, when removed, s sent to a mll where t s processed and kold to other manufacturers. 1..

Chpboard s a sngle-layer box wth a grey lner such as can be found n cereal or shoe boxes. + Before dsposa l, make sure all contents and lnngs have been removed. + Cardboard unacceptable for recyclng ncludes: whte sngle-layer cardboard (toothpaste boxes, deodorant boxes, etc.), waxed, foregn. wet, food or other waste contamnated cardboard., + Unless you are movng, not too many people care what happens to corrugated cardboard boxes. Whch s probably why corrugated cardboard makes up 16 percent of Wake Countfs total waste stream.
