We represent our members and the ringette community to ensure there are appropriate competition and recreational opportunities to allow all participants in the sport to achieve their goals. Ringette Alberta is a registered non profit association responsible for coordinating and delivering provincial level technical based programs and services throughout Alberta.

2 Ringette Alberta works in partnership with local, regional, provincial and national sport organizations and local sport system providers to create a dynamic environment for ringette sport participation through excellence at all Levels, by integrating RA class athlete, coaching and referee certification, program services and long term sport development initiatives. As a leader, we are working with ringette communities across the province to build program and organizational capacity. As a provincial sport organization, we are the primary delivery mechanism across the province that implements the guidelines set out in the Ringette Canada s LTAD, C BET/NCCP/NOCP delivery models. Job Description: The Technical Director oversees the technical development and coordination of all aspects of the association s technical program and service delivery frame work including: planning, organizing, measuring, reporting, staffing, leading and managing the association technical based mandate. The Technical Director is the primary technical lead in the organization. The key role of this position is to be responsible for the conceptualization, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs as they relate the Technical Performance element of the Alberta Ringette Association. The Technical Director monitors and organizes the technical programs and services of Ringette Alberta. In concert with the Executive Director, this position works closely with ringette associations, recreational facilities, educational institutions, businesses, and specific government organizations to negotiate and facilitate comprehensive technical services aimed at the development of Ringette Alberta coaches, referees and athletes and association volunteer development. The Technical Director makes decisions more tactical than strategic in nature. Through consistent technical delivery, the technical director is responsible for the planning, development, delivery, management, and assessment of a variety of Coach, Official and Athlete Services and ringette development programs. Working with the Executive Director and with internal professional staff, the Technical Director services community associations, league organizations, and event host communities. The technical director is the principal conduit through which all activities involving Ringette Alberta performance development are focused. This includes activities for coaches, officials, players and specialized target groups. The individual is the technical lead that is responsible for creating harmony and collaboration between all Ringette Alberta endorsed Ringette program developments in the province of Alberta. Ringette Alberta is focused on delivering technical performance programs and services through three Critical Success Factors: #1, to support registered coaches, officials and athletes, with the provision of RA class training environment at the regional, provincial and national level. #2 provides NCCP, NOCP and LTAD pathway methodology of physiological and biomechanical monitoring, strength and conditioning, sport psychology, sport nutrition and other sport science and sport medicine programs.

3 #3 emphasizes a comprehensive support programs and services for coaches, officials and athletes such as: skill development, facilities access, training assessments; educational seminars; financial subsidies; amateur development; personal and professional resources and materials. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include (but not limited to): Leadership: Participate with the Executive Director and Committee Chairs by maintaining the current level and developing a broader Technical vision and strategic plan to guide the organization. Identify, assess, and inform the Executive Director and Committee Chairs of internal and external issues that affect technical programs. Act as a professional advisor to the ED and CC s on all aspects of the organization's technical activities. Act as a spokesperson for the organization s technical programs. Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the organization s technical programs as appropriate and jointly with the ED when appropriate. Represent the organization s technical programs at community activities to enhance the organization's community profile. Develops specific key RA performance indicators for consideration. Collects information from other Provincial Sport Organization s regarding performance programming and provides RA with a comprehensive assessment of their performance programs, and make recommendation within the context of their LTAD model. Assists the ED with the development of the annual work plan including establishing deliverables for the accountability framework. Operational Planning and Management: To develop a technical operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work toward the strategic direction of the organization. Ensure that the operation of the organization meets the expectations of its membership, board and funders. Oversee the efficient and effective day to day operation of the organization s technical programs. Draft policies for the review of the ED and prepare procedures to implement the organizational technical program policies; review existing policies on an annual basis and recommend changes to the ED as appropriate. Ensure that technical personnel, client, donor and volunteer files are securely stored and privacy/confidentiality is maintained. Provide support to the ED by preparing meeting agenda and supporting material. Planning of the Technical Program Community Performance Evolution: 1. Conduct NCCP, NOCP Certification Program Delivery, act as lead (CAC) liaison; facilitate the NCCP/C BET Integration and delivery components within the mainstream of the RA performance Class regime. 2. Team Alberta Teams Program coordination, (CWG, AWG, WCRC); Provincial Talent Identification Program. 3. Supervise all provincial team program coaches and assign mentorship coaches to be responsible for the coaching of specific athletes and the monitoring of their training programs. 4. Identify and oversee the implementation of coach/officials education and ongoing professional development for all Provincial Team Coaches and Provincial Selected Officials.

4 5. Ensure that assistant coaches are directed in the preparation and implementation of training programs. 6. Evaluate the performance of Provincial Team coaches and advertising for, screening, interviewing and selecting new coaches as required. 7. Lead respective RA technical committees that impact on the goals and objectives of the Ringette Alberta technical program. 8. Work with RA administrative staff and Provincial Ringette Organizations to develop, lead and promote a development program for coaches/officials within RA that targets talented coaches/officials for performance opportunities. 9. The Technical Director shall be responsible for developing and implementing training programs for competition officials and technical delegates in all divisions of play. 10. S/he shall work with key officials and committee s in each division to assist with coordinating the implementation of training programs. S/he shall be responsible for directly planning and coordinating Technical Delegate and RA endorsed NOCP clinics. 11. The Technical Director shall ensure the membership and certification of all league and competition officials are properly maintained. In liaison with the Officials Committee, the Technical Director shall be responsible for managing the process involving, the assigning of Technical Delegates and officials to provincial, western, national level competitions. 12. Work with RA administrative staff, committees and Provincial Organizations to manage domestic competition and Provincial program development that impacts on future performance program needs. 13. Monitor and manage the ongoing coach/official succession plans for the RA. Establish Auxiliary Sport Science coach/official/athlete Team Services and relationships; Develop and review Provincial Team Yearly Training Plans. 14. Responsible for the development and implementation of a fair and equitable process for Provincial Team Head Coach appointments. 15. Design Provincial Team Coaching development, training and Education programs. 16. Coordinate and schedule Provincial Team on/off ice technical program commitments. 17. Prepare and submit annual Technical Program evaluation and recommendations: Canadian Inter University Program, (CIS) Sport Liaison. National Ringette League Program, (NRL) Liaison. 18. Design and implement outside the certification realm of current programming and services; Construct RA style Coach/Official/ Athlete Development programming; Develop and Manage Technical In Season and Off Season Training Session programs and services that reflect membership technical needs. 19. Examine current programs and foster new technical developmental pathways for Master Coach/Official Development Programs. 20. The Technical Director shall be responsible for continuing the transition of the NCCP to CBET according to the Coaching of Association (CAC) guidelines. S/he shall be responsible for coordinating and publishing the annual coaching course schedules for Club Coach, Competition Development Coach and High Performance Coach. This will include working with Divisional Coaching Coordinators to schedule courses, to ensure all Coaching Candidates are properly registered with Ringette Alberta, Ringette Canada and the CAC and that the Coaching Candidates complete the necessary steps to receive certification under the CBET system. 21. Direct the coordination of the Coach/Official/Athlete Mentorship Programs. 22. Harmonize the long term athlete development (LTAD) Integration and delivery components; Serve as Ringette Alberta s technical liaison. 23. Ringette Canada recently completed its LTAD model. The Technical Director shall work closely with associations, leagues, teams, provincial and national coaches to develop appropriate tools and programs to promote athlete skill development within the Ringette Alberta LTAD program.

5 24. Create and manage RA out reach technical clinics, camps, leagues, schools, and seminars). 25. Engage Provincial Technical staff recruitment, training, placement and evaluation. 26. Consult and influence PSO/NSO technical counterparts to promote RA technical initiatives. 27. Manage RA provincial teams technical equipment, apparel acquisitions, design and maintenance 28. Coordinate the Chef de Mission program selection, placement, seminar and training). 29. Prepare and present quadrennial/annual technical planning and budget submissions. 30. Develop and present new technical program initiatives for consideration. Performance Evolution will include: A) To design and deliver the provincial and national technical performance targets as set out in the RA Class Performance Plan. B) To identify, select, develop and maximize the potential of the named players on the RA Class Performance Plan and to increase numbers of players reaching the very highest levels of provincial and national performance as evidenced by results in milestone events. C) To design and implement high quality training and competition programs with the ultimate aim of peak performances at provincial, national championships. D) To manage a multi dimensional support program incorporating selected experts in the delivery of sports science and medical support, ensuring the needs of players and coaches are met. E) To set the technical agenda for high performance ringette and to lead and develop the high performance athletes, coaches, referees to ensure consistency in the delivery of technical and tactical components. F) To design and implement high quality training and competition programs and to ensure players and their coaches plan training, preparation and competitive schedules. G) To prioritize resources towards achievement of medals and other agreed performance targets and to set high performance standards to ensure adherence to RA class expectations. H) To work closely with team coaches to ensure the players are provided with consistent, RA class preparation programming support. I) To co ordinate the production of individual player profiles to inform and enhance program development. J) To utilize the latest sports science techniques and methods in conjunction with the appropriate support bodies and to ensure the highest quality of sports science/medicine services and technical support. K) To monitor success and compliance with the requirements of the RA class performance program. L) To manage, supervise and co ordinate the technical direction of support staff and set the technical agenda for the High performance players and their coaches and, in conjunction with the RA Executive Director, play a pivotal role in the development of RA player and coach support. M) To assist the High Performance Coaches in the delivery of the high performance strategy and to develop and maintain strong links between the Ringette Canada and National Team Squads to ensure continuity between levels for high achievers. N) To act as lead Technical Advisor for RA teams at major championships and to be involved in management, selection and review functions. O) To lead the support team and oversee the RA program of the high Performance Coaching staff s and to be part of selection and interview panels for support technical staff and sports science/medical experts as appropriate. P) To develop strong and effective working relationships with key external stakeholders (Sport Councils, Institutes of Sport, and Ringette Canada). Q) To assist in the development of fair, transparent and effectively communicated technical selection policies and appeals procedures.

6 Program Planning and Management: Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organization's technical programs and services. Ensure that the technical programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization's mission and reflect the priorities of the Board Monitor the day to day delivery of the technical programs and services of the organization to maintain or improve quality Oversee the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of special projects that reflect technical theme Human Resources Planning and Management: Determine staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery of the technical program and related services. Liaise with ED to oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices including the development of job description for all technical staff. Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations. Recruit, interview, select staff and volunteers that have the right technical and personal abilities to help further the organization's technical program mission. Ensure that all technical staff receives an orientation to the organization and that appropriate training is provided. Implement a performance management process for all technical staff which includes monitoring the performance of staff on an on going basis and conducting per program and annual performance reviews. Coach, and mentor technical staff and volunteers as appropriate to improve performance. Discipline technical staff when necessary using appropriate techniques; release staff when necessary using appropriate and legally defensible procedures Financial Planning and Management: Prepare a comprehensive technical program budget. Secure adequate funding for the operation of the organization s technical programs. Research funding sources, oversee the development of fund raising plans and write funding proposals to increase the funds of the organization. Participate in technical program fundraising activities as appropriate. Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the ED. Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed. Administer the funds of the organization technical program according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization. Provide the ED with comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues and expenditure of the organization s technical program Community Relations/Advocacy. Communicate with stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of the organization technical programs and to identify changes in the community served by the organization. Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization s technical programs.

7 Risk Management: Identify and evaluate the risks to the organization's technical personnel (staff, management, and volunteers), property, finances, goodwill, and image and implement measures to control risks. Working with ED to ensure that the organization carries appropriate and adequate insurance coverage for technical program activities. Specific Accountabilities include: Consulting with ringette associations, groups, facility service providers, athletes, coaches and referees to identify program and service requirements. With direct liaison with the ED, carry out the designing and implementing of business feasibility studies of program requirements including purpose, scope, costs, and potential partners and funding sources. Liaising with contracted professionals regarding the technical aspects and requirements for athlete, coach and referee support programs. Negotiating costs, partnership contracts and/or funding agreements with service and facility providers. Designing and developing programs, policies and procedures. Developing annual work plans, measurable objectives and monitoring systems for the programs. Implementing annual program reviews, evaluating coach, referee, athlete and stakeholder feedback, and reviewing RA goals to assess changing objectives, problems and shortfalls. Preparing program assessment reports outlining athlete usage, resource generation, expense reduction, partner evaluations, and recommendations for enhancement for management review. Directing the development and implementation of program and service improvements Maintaining baseline data on numbers of coaches, referees, athletes, volunteers and community groups accessed/serviced. Developing and maintaining multiple databases and spreadsheets for storage and interpretation of data. Assisting in the planning, development and assessment of other coach, referee and athlete, centered initiatives. Liaising with coaches, referees and athletes to inform and "advocate" RA programs and services. Receiving and responding to special requests for unique and customized services. Coordinating meetings, conferences and workshops aimed at the education and development of athletes, coaches and referees. Conducting "intake process" and the registration of incoming athletes, coaches and referees. Assessing individual needs and assisting coaches, referees and athletes to access appropriate services. Collecting necessary coach, referee and athlete information for records, and input into database. Works closely with the Executive Director as necessary to ensure goals of the association are being met by: Liaising on a regular basis to maintain objectives, and to foster effective communication linkages. Providing verbal and written responses to queries and requests for information. Arranging dates and times for meetings as well as drafting agendas. Assisting the Executive Director and Chairpersons with day to day technical program and service. Creating a variety of documents including letters, reports and memos for publication; and monitoring and annually evaluating the RA delivery of services. Works closely with the Executive Director, Board Members and Board Committee Members. Works with other professional staff or sport groups on projects as required. Technical Support to the Provincial Membership. Develops nurtures and maintains relationships with stakeholders at a technical level.

8 Shall serve as the Association s technical consultant or advisor on all matters pertaining to coach, official and player development; including serving as the liaison to organizing committees of technical specific nature. Provincial Coaching Development Programs responsible for organizing and administering the Association s performance coach and official development programs. Responsible to work with the professional staff and associated committee chairpersons, to identify the needs and support required to the Associations and Club Level team coaches to enhance their programs to improve the technical skill level of provincial players. At a Regional level, help train and monitor club coaches and help them plan and implement practice sessions. At a Regional level, design and administer a continuing education program for coaches/officials; design coaching manuals for the team coaches; create long and short term seasonal plans for clubs and provide guidance to team coaches in designing their own team s seasonal plans; design and provide example playing formats for in house recreational programs. At a Regional level, design a Coach/Official Development Manual for the clubs to use that is consistent with the provincial/national objectives for skill development. Develop relationships with experts in the sports sciences, such as a ringette fitness expert, a medical expert, a sport psychologist, and a nutritionist, to make presentations and to assist in the overall program design. Develop and implement a comprehensive community development plan. Working Conditions and Special Requirements include: Requires limited travel in Alberta to attend meetings or local travel to attend regional league, athlete, coach and referee or tournament scheduled events; Requires a Class 5 Drivers license As the Canadian and Alberta sport system is in the process of some major changes in the delivery of programming and services (LTAD,C BET), professional staff must be able to work in it is a highly dynamic and flexible membership service environment. Located in a typical provincial sport office environment, the technical director usually works in an office environment,however, the technical mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non standard workplaces. The technical director works a standard work week (37.5) but will be required to work some evenings and weekends to conduct and monitor program activities. Selection Criteria Includes: (but not limited to) Education, Experience and Certification: Degree in Physical Education (BPE), (BPE/ED), (BSC Kin), or related field. Demonstrated experience working in Provincial sport and/or National sport and/or International sport systems. Demonstrated non\profit sport work experience. Demonstrated experience in performance preparation for major single or multi sport events. Demonstrated (3 year minimum) technical sport program management and delivery experience. NCCP/NOCP Level 3 Certification and/or willingness to acquire minimum level 3 certification. Technical Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to plan coach/referee/athlete training seminars, prepare proposals, conduct surveys, develop and plan regional, provincial proposals. Demonstrated proficient computer skills.

9 Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve multivariable sport issues, conduct program evaluations utilizing logical models and performance indicators. Demonstrated technical program administrative skills. Demonstrated ability to prepare and explain (verbal and in writing) information clearly and effectively to variety of audiences including athletes, coaches, referee, sports associations and volunteers. Demonstrated ability to present effectively to senior management and governance board level audiences. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with all levels of professional staff and regional partners and stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively as part of a team where enthusiasm, innovative ideas and challenges are encouraged. Demonstrated strong communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment and organize multiple concurrent projects with changing priorities and deadlines, emerging issues, while keeping the Executive Director and colleagues informed. Has a demonstrated ability of leveraging partnerships works well with a wide range of organizations to reach mutually beneficial outcomes. Recognizes the relationship with government and stakeholders as an important element in the success of RA and can continue to build goodwill. Coach Course Conductor/Officials Course Conductor experience, Level 3 status. Coaching/Officiating experience at the national, provincial, university or International level. Strong ringette playing background. Demonstrated ability as a leader and organizer of technical development programs. Knowledge: Working knowledge of the provincial, national and/or international sport systems and plans Working knowledge of provincial and national athlete, coach and referee programs and services Working knowledge of technical programming and process necessary to lead, manage, maintain, measure and develop programs and services in a provincial delivery environment Considerable understanding of the personal and amateur level needs of athletes, coaches and referees An understanding of and respect for, the roles, responsibilities and innate pressures of the provincial, local ringette organizations and regional stakeholders. Tools/Equipment: Uses office tools and equipment such as computers, laptops, scanners, photocopiers, calculators, fax machines, telephones and sets up audio visual equipment for meetings and training events.
