3 BACKGROUND AND CLC SPORTS CENTRE At College we aim to embody excellence, independence and empowerment in the education of young women. Our academic provision to approximately 850 girls, aged between 11 and 18 years, includes GCSEs, AS and A Levels and the IB Programme, underpinned by a comprehensive cocurricular programme. We have a 23-acre dispersed estate in the centre of Cheltenham, including a single main teaching site in close proximity to the day and boarding houses which are located in nearby residential areas. The CLC Sports Centre is located on Christ Church Road. The facility is used by the girls at the College both as part of their PE and Sports programme and as a leisure activity. The Sports Centre is also run as a commercial venture with membership open to members of the public. Facilities at the Sports Centre include: Swimming pool with a 25m pool with an ozone cleaning system. Early morning lane swimming, adult only sessions and family fun is provided. Swimming lessons with qualified instructors are available for adults and children, on an individual or group basis. During holidays inflatable equipment offers fun for the children. The Fitness Suite filled with resistance and cardio equipment, including a separate free weights room. Sports Hall which can be hired for sports such as badminton or basketball, and is used for exercise classes such as circuits, aerobics and body conditioning. The hall also hosts regular leagues and competitions and can be hired as a whole for team games. We have 12 tennis courts, of which six are all-weather courts, and four squash courts available to hire. Squash and tennis clubs are available for members to join. One-to-one sessions can be booked with our Personal Trainers for advice and expertise in a specific area or more generally. Whether individuals want to do some gentle exercise in friendly surroundings, lift heavy weights or play squash, we have something for everybody. We also have exciting plans for the future development of the Sports Centre. In the role of Duty Manager, you will be part of an active and friendly team of 30 staff including; Duty Managers, Receptionists as well as Full and Part-time Recreation Assistants and Personal Trainers. 4 JOB DESCRIPTION REPORTS TO Operations Manager ROLE OVERVIEW To ensure the comfort and safety of all users of the sports centre. To undertake a range of duties to enable the smooth and efficient operation of the centre. You will be responsible to the Operations Manager but will liaise closely with the Administration Manager. MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Health and Safety - Maintain vigilant supervision of pool users, ensuring the safety of swimmers at all times and effect pool rescues when necessary - Administer First Aid and resuscitation - Report any maintenance issues Customers - Deal with customers at all times in a friendly and professional manner - Deliver the needs of the sports centre users as programmed - Reception work: deal with visitors, respond to telephone enquiries and use a computer Staff - Support the work of the team, contribute to meetings, develop good practices within the team and assist colleagues in their work - Undertake, chair and prepare minutes for team meetings - Work alongside the Operations Manager preparing staff rotas and arranging alternative cover in the event of sickness or absence - Assist the Operations Manager by ensuring that Recreation Assistants carry out their duties for the smooth and effective day to day operation of the sports centre. This includes monitoring the cleanliness and maintenance of the buildings, the fabric, fittings and equipment - Complete duty checklists and make routine day to day operational decisions Other Duties - Clean both wet and dry facilities in order to maintain the Centre s operation and standards of presentation - Ensure facilities and equipment are prepared appropriately and promptly - Contribute to and help promote positive communication across the organisation - Assist in the fitness suite, as and when required - Ensure the safe and proper use of facilities at all times - Patrol the buildings and carry out periodic checks; - Perform water quality tests for the swimming pool as specified and rectify as necessary - Carry out routine plant duties, including backwashing of the pool and problem solving - Be a designated key holder on a call out rota - Responsible for the day-to-day management of all cash receipts - Ensure the security of the premises is maintained at all times Training - Undergo training as required by the Operations Manager, including attendance at off-site courses; - Comply with Cheltenham Ladies College Health and Safety procedures at all times, adhering to the Sports Centres Normal Operating Procedures and Emergency Action Plan; - Attend Regular training and ensure that lifeguarding qualifications are up-to-date. 5 PERSON SPECIFICATION The person specification focuses on the knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications required to undertake the role effectively E = Essential D = Desirable QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING - Hold and maintain a current, valid Royal Life Saving Society National Pool Lifeguard qualification - ISRM or equivalent, Pool Plant Operators Certificate - Hold a current First Aid at Work qualification D KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE - The nature of the role requires a reasonable level of physical fitness and stamina - Good IT skills and a willingness to update these as the role requires - Experience in a managerial role, preferably within the leisure/fitness industry E D PERSONAL QUALITIES - Quickly build rapport and easily establish relationships with both colleagues and Sport Centre customers - Relate well to different types of people, listen and get on with them - Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, adapting style to suit the audience - Able to develop effective and supportive relationships with colleagues - Proven ability to organise time effectively, create work schedules, prioritise workload and meet deadlines - Able to follow directions and respect policies and procedures - Use initiative: take responsibility for own actions and of make decisions without referring to others - Flexibility: work unsociable hours and possess a flexible attitude towards work. 6 THE VACANCY BENEFITS HOURS OF WORK This is a full-time, permanent role. The average working week consists of 40 hours rostered over the period of Monday to Sunday over two weeks with every other weekend off. Shift work is a condition of this post and hours worked will be within the sports centre opening times which are as follows: Monday to Thursday: 0630hrs to 2230hrs Friday: 0600 to 2200hrs Saturday & Sunday: 0730 to 2100hrs. The successful candidate will be expected to take and pass the NPL qualification shortly after appointment, the cost of which will be met by CLC. SALARY The salary for this role will be 16,841 per annum. Salaries across College are reviewed in September of each year. ANNUAL LEAVE Annual leave is 27 days per year plus statutory holidays. The holiday year runs from 1 st January to 31 st December of each year. INDUCTION AND SUPPORT A full induction programme will commence on joining College. This will include training where necessary and introduction to College procedures and the organisation. A mentor will be allocated if this is considered appropriate and if sufficiently experienced staff are available. College maintains full staff review and development procedures. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT College supports continuous professional development. SPORTS CENTRE You are eligible for membership of the CLC Sports Centre at a charge of 5 per month and family members may also join at reduced rates. You will need to contact the Sports Centre if you would like to take up membership. DISCOUNTED FEES Staff are eligible a two-thirds discount on day fees should their daughter be accepted into College (the discount will be pro-rata for part-time employees). This benefit and the salary sacrifice arrangement are subject to conditions and statutory requirements. EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME Access to a free and confidential counselling service. 7 SAFEGUARDING LIVING AND WORKING IN CHELTENHAM You will be required to become familiar with College s Safeguarding policy and comply with its requirements to safeguard and protect the welfare of children. In addition you will be asked to read and understand the following documents: Child Protection Policy, Staff Code of Conduct, Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and Relationships between Adults and Girls in College. All staff undergo mandatory training on the safeguarding arrangements in College that covers the Child Protection Policy and the identity of the Designated Safeguarding Lead. You will be interviewed and assessed against the criteria set out in the job description and person specification. With a population of approximately 110,000, Cheltenham is a thriving Regency town in Gloucestershire. It s situated in the Cotswolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and home to some of the most beautiful villages in England. The town of Cheltenham has much to offer, with good shopping and excellent restaurants, wine bars and cafes. It is known as the centre of Jump Racing and the renowned Cheltenham Festival takes place every March. The town also hosts thriving artistic and cultural Festivals, bringing the stars of Literature, Music, Jazz and Science to Cheltenham throughout the year. The town itself and its surrounding areas, including the Cotswolds, Gloucester and the Forest of Dean, have a healthy supply of housing to suit all needs and a range of excellent schools, both state and independent. Commuter links into Cheltenham are good and the M5 motorway is close by. There are easy road and rail links, with Bristol, Birmingham and Oxford all accessible within an hour s travel.
