1 The Position BRIEFING DOCUMENT, APPLICATION & SELECTION PROCESS WEB CONTENT EDITOR 3 YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT Limerick City and County Council, Office of Marketing & Communications is seeking an energetic and creative Web Content Editor. The successful candidate will be employed on a 3 year fixed term contract basis. The successful candidate will create dynamic and engaging digital content aimed at marketing Limerick and will work as an integral member of the Marketing and Communications team which is responsible for marketing, communications, branding, Limerick.ie, newsletters and social media. The Web Content Editor will be responsible for creating, editing and publishing accurate and up-to-date information on Limerick City and County Council s website, Limerick.ie, with the aim of creating an overall positive user experience. Background Limerick.ie is the official guide to Limerick, Ireland - an all inclusive on-line voice for Limerick with comprehensive information on visiting, doing business and living in the capital of the Mid-West. Its mission is: To always present Limerick in a positive light. To be number 1 when searching the internet for information on Limerick. To publish relevant and up-to-date content by working with partners in the region. To showcase Limerick s unique selling points. To provide information on visiting, investing, learning, living and events in Limerick.
2 Limerick.ie underwent a major re-launch in 2017, making it one of the most advanced local authority digital platforms in the country. There are thousands of pages to explore in what is the biggest single online portal for any council in Ireland. Duties and Responsibilities The successful candidate(s) may be expected to carry out the duties set out below. These duties are non exhaustive and may be changed as required depending on the needs of Limerick City and County Council. Manage and upload in a timely and effective way, the day-to-day content updates on Limerick City and County Council s websites Write compelling and engaging digital copy highlighting Limerick s unique selling points and ensuring that the content is consistent with Limerick City and County Council's brand voice, style and tone. Liaise with external organisations and internal departments to gather new content to be added online Ensure that all content added is presented in an interesting and appealing manner for web Moderate and audit existing website content to ensure that it is accurate and up-todate Administer a high volume of enquiries Source and edit images and videos to represent online content Proactively liaise with staff and other stakeholders to encourage them to write relevant and interesting content for the website Training and knowledge sharing of digital content with other website content editors in the organisation Work with the Marketing team in the execution of local, national and international marketing campaigns Participation in special projects and other related duties as requested. The Person Each person at the closing date for receipt of completed applications; 1. Character Each candidate must be of good character. 2. Health Each candidate must be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. 3. Education, training, experience, etc
3 Candidates will demonstrate through their application form and at the interview that he/she has/is: A third level qualification in a relevant discipline, ideally in Digital Communications/ Media, or Marketing or PR or Journalism. A minimum of two years relevant experience Excellent content, grammar and copywriting skills as well as an understanding of the special considerations for writing for the web; ideally digital copy-writing and copyediting experience Working knowledge of website content management systems Knowledge of photo editing software management A commitment to quality, accuracy, detail and consistency An understanding of content marketing, SEM, SEO, social media An ability to work on their own initiative while also being able to work effectively and harmoniously in a team environment The ability to multitask and work at a high volume Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with all stakeholders and staff across the organisation Have a passion for digital and user experience A good understanding of Limerick s unique selling points Current, full, clean Class B driving licence and access to own car Salary Salary scale: 26,756-43,889 per annum. Point on scale will be determined in accordance with existing procedures. Annual increments are payable but dependent on performance. Hours of Work The normal working hours are 37 hours per week Annual Leave 30 days per annum APPLICATION PROCESS Completed application forms must be ed to webcontenteditor@limerick.ie no later than Tuesday, 10 th October, 2017.

Please send your application from an address that you will review regularly as communication during the assessment/selection period will only be through that address. Candidates must also submit with their application form samples of original copy that they have created that will demonstrate their ability for this position. Please note that amendments to the application form will not be accepted after the closing date. SELECTION PROCESS Candidates will initially be assessed to ensure that they meet the minimum qualifications outlined above. A short listing process may take place. Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the information contained in their application form to determine, having regard to the requirements of the position and the number who have applied, if they should be called for interview.
5 INTERVIEW The interview will comprise 2 parts; 1. Competency Test Practical examination carried out at interview 2. Interview Candidates at the interview will be assessed and marked on the following areas: SKILLS RELEVANT TO THE JOB 150 Marks PERSONAL AND PERSON SPECIFICATION 100 Marks COMPETENCY TEST (PRACTICAL EXAMINATION CARRIED OUT AT INTERVIEW) 150 Marks Knowledge and understanding of role and responsibilities Knowledge and experience of website content management systems Copy-writing experience Understanding of the special considerations for writing for the web Understanding of content marketing, SEM, SEO, social media Ability to multitask and work at a high volume Initiative Communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work as part of a team Passion for digital Understanding of Limerick s unique selling points Editorial writing skills (100 marks) Photo editing skills (25 marks) Quality, accuracy and detail skills (25 marks) Candidates at interview must achieve a minimum 50% of the total marks available in each of the competencies to qualify for inclusion on a panel.
