2 Contents Welcome from the Chief Overview - What is a Sandwich Year Placement? - Who is eligible? - What are the benefits? - What placements are available? - Application Process and Timeline About Bedfordshire Police - Who we are - Contact us
3 Welcome from the Chief Bedfordshire Police recognises the benefits that can be achieved by working with young people, who can bring new perspectives and skills to the force. We have been working with interns for the past three years both as part of our own Summer Internship Scheme, and as part of a joint programme with De Montfort University. In fact, we are one of the first forces in the country to offer paid internships to university students. Each set of interns has taken on a variety of different projects which showed real promise, and some of their work has been adopted into daily working practice, allowing us to provide a more effective service to our diverse communities. There is so much potential at Universities around the UK - students who are passionate, committed, and full of fresh ideas, who can make a real difference to the way we work. After the success of our Internship programmes, we are now offering Sandwich Year Placements. This new programme will see a number of undergraduates work with the force for a year, completing the placement as part of their four year degree. You will be able to find out more about the placements on offer in this booklet, and the Volunteering Unit, whose contact details are at the back of the booklet, will be happy to answer any questions you have about the placement or the application and selection process. Bedfordshire Police prides itself on being a family force, and I am looking forward to welcoming you into our family next year. Jon Boutcher QPM Chief Constable, Bedfordshire Police
