2 INTRODUCTION SHEQ management is a science that is assigned to various responsible parties in an organisation. Establishment of competence in these individuals is therefore crucial to ensure that the intentions of the ISO Standards and legislator are comprehensively deployed in the organisation. The development of SHEQ related competent employees reaches beyond the parameters of the content of the HSE legislation, in that specific SHEQ management requirements are needed to comply with our valuable legislation. This course is designed to provide the organisation the opportunity to establish competence in both the requirements of the relevant Acts, as well as pre-contact, contact and post-contact controls relating to SHEQ management that is governed in modern organisations by International standards. COURSE OUTCOMES On completion of all three modules the learners will be fully competent to establish the requirements for a SHEQ management system in the organisation, as well as the requirements to develop, implement and maintain the system.

3 CONTENT AND OUTCOMES This course is designed to be delivered over a three-week modular based period, divided over a period of three months. PRE-REQUISITES Grade 12, or equivalent SHEQ experience, the following will be of advantage to the learner: SAMTRAC, ISO 9000, and OHSAS introduction training. Fifteen Days DURATION

5 Module One (Theory) LEGAL AND ISO: COURSE CONTENT Ø Generic Management 1 o Leadership Concepts in a Work Context o Records Maintenance o Customer Service Monitoring Ø ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001and ISO o General requirements of a management system o Elements of the ISO Standard o Generic Management Controls o Implementing an ISO Standard Ø Integrated Management System Requirements Ø E-Systems Integration o Pitfalls o Advantages o Opportunities Module One Practical Ø Various practical workshops are done during the course of the module, where the theoretical skills must be applied. Comprehensive assignment in applying Leadership, Management, SHEQ and ISO requirements in the workplace. The purpose of this assignment is to enhance the capabilities of the learner and to improve competence in applying these skills during normal operations. Assignment needs to be handed in on the first day of module two. A three-hour exam is written on the first day of module 2 to complete module 1.

6 Module Two Legal: Ø Generic Management 2 Ø Ø o Team Leader and Standards South African HSE Legislation and Regulations: During this module the learners will be educated in the applicable HSE Legislation and the content of the legislation and regulations. an in-depth study will be conducted to ensure competence in applying the requirements of legislation when designing a system and manage a workplace. Extended Legislation: o SANS o Municipal By-Laws o The reason and purpose of extended legislation will be covered. Incorporated standards in the Act will be discussed and defined. Module Two Practical Ø Various practical workshops are done during the course of the module, where the theoretical skills must be applied. Comprehensive assignment in applying SHEQ requirements in the work place. A three hour exam is written on the Last day of module 3 to complete module 3.
