1 UCEM Tutor Apprenticeship Programmes Job Specification JOB DESCRIPTION Employment status: Hours: Location: Department: Manager: Liaises with: 2 x Permanent, full or part time considered 1 x Fixed term, part time (maternity cover for up to 12 months) Full time hours are 35 per week, Monday to Friday 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Please state your preferred working hours within your application Horizons, 60 Queen s Road, Reading, RG1 4BS Home/remote working may be considered Student Experience Sam Ricketts, Programme Leader Surveying Technician Diploma Internal: Liaison with the Director of Apprenticeships, Head of Apprenticeship Programme Management, Apprenticeship Programme Leaders, Head of Apprenticeship Management, Apprenticeship Management Team, Online Learning team, Academic Programme Support Tutors, Programme Administrators, the Finance Team, the Admissions Team and other UCEM staff. Summary of the role You will work closely with professional bodies and/or practitioners as well as academic colleagues across the institution which includes internal and associate tutors. It is essential that you work closely with, and in the interest of, our students. You will join the academic team to help deliver apprenticeship programmes, modules and units which fall within the Academic Apprenticeship Team. Your main purpose will be to develop and deliver units and modules within the subject areas of Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying and/or Real Estate on the Surveying Technician Diploma; you will also be required to provide timely reporting of apprentices progress, as and when required. You will work with Apprenticeship Programme Leaders to promote and enhance student performance, retention and success through support activities which create motivation and engagement amongst the students. Duties and responsibilities Develop and deliver units, modules and workshop sessions within your subject specialism as directed by the Head of Apprenticeship Programme Management. Promote and embed the British Values, Prevent, Safeguarding and Functional Skills within the delivery of units and modules, within your subject specialism, in line with the requirements of the OFSTED Common Inspection Framework. 2 Have an understanding of relevant professional qualifications in order to advise students on progression routes. Monitor student progress, engagement and retention taking steps to increase student retention on programmes, units and/or modules. Liaise with the Learning and Teaching and Enhancement Team and Apprenticeship Support Tutors to ensure best practice in online learning and academic support is offered to all students on the apprenticeship units and/or modules. Assist in monitoring, maintaining and enhancing quality standards on programmes, units and/or modules. Act as the key point of contact for guidance for UCEM student facing teams in matters relating to the apprenticeship modules and/or units. Collaborate and work with the Apprenticeship Management Team to maintain standards and success rates in line with the OFSTED Common Inspection Framework. Develop industry contacts to enhance the programme offers and increase student recruitment. Perform the duties of an Apprenticeship Unit and Module Leader as required. Fully engage in academic processes for relevant unit and/or module updates, curriculum development, teaching, assessment setting, scrutiny and marking, feedback, module review and response to questionnaires. Provide input to new programme development and curriculum enhancement, as required. Plan and deliver workshops, liaising with other tutors, to ensure that they are confident to deliver your materials when you are not present. Liaise with other tutors to provide cover for workshop sessions planned by alternative members of the teaching team. Monitor student queries and respond in a timely manner. Support UCEM in becoming OFSTED ready. Refer students to appropriate sources of support, as required. For example, the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Team or the Safeguarding Team. Fully engage with all required training for the role and embed this training within your daily practice, as applicable. Liaise with the Head of Apprenticeship Programme Management, as required, to ensure that the subject coverage is kept up to date across programmes and other relevant units and/or modules. Liaise with the Head of Apprenticeship Management, and co-ordinators from other faculties, to ensure timely and effective reporting is provided on apprentices academic progress. Undertake advanced scholarship activities to deliver teaching, learning and assessment resources, along with materials for UCEM programmes, to ensure that you remain up-to-date in the academic subject, skills and professional field. Undertake academic tutor duties in line with your own professional and teaching experience. Any other reasonable duties, as directed by your line manager. Attend Board of Studies, as required. 3 PERSON SPECIFICATION A = Application/CV I = Interview T = Test Qualifications and training Relevant academic qualifications to at least first-degree level A Teaching qualification, or the willingness to undertake a qualification Relevant professional qualification A Familiarity with apprenticeship requirements and relevant professional bodies Previous experience Experience in delivering or supporting training and/or teaching via face-to-face or in an online environment within relevant subject areas Experience in teaching relevant subjects at HNC/HND level Experience of technology enhanced learning/online learning in an educational or training environment Ability to produce innovative learning material to enthuse students and use it to teach successfully online Skills, knowledge and aptitudes Enthusiastic and positive attitude Experience in designing, delivering and/or studying in an online environment Enthusiastic about working with a team of tutors to teach online and face-to-face students ensuring successful completion of their studies Experience in designing and delivering CPD Excellent IT skills and an understanding of industry software relevant to the area of expertise and at an appropriate level Knowledge of safeguarding, prevent and British Values Comfortable with innovation and change with the ability to UCEM 04/2018 Page 3 of 5

If you are appointed to this post you will also be required, as part of your induction training, to undertake training relating to safeguarding and Prevent.
