1 GENERAL MANAGER/ HEAD OF ADMINISTRATION Job Description Reporting to: Executive Director Responsible for: Front of House Manager, Theatre Administrator and oversight of deputy front of house managers, duty managers and casual front of house staff The Bush Theatre is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and highly organised General Manager/Head of Administration to manage the day to day administration and general management of building and Front of house operations. The General Manager is responsible for the smooth and efficient day-to-day running of the Bush Theatre with particular focus on the systems and operations of our building. You will lead our administration department and play a lead role in operations, HR and policy, as well as a supporting role in compliance, governance and planning. 2 GENERAL MANAGER/ HEAD OF ADMINISTRATION Job Description Reporting to: Executive Director Responsible for: Front of House Manager, Theatre Administrator and oversight of deputy front of house managers, duty managers and casual front of house staff JOB DESCRIPTION Background One of the most experienced prospectors of raw talent in Europe. The Independent After nearly 40 years in residence over a pub on Shepherd s Bush Green, the Bush Theatre moved into the Old Library in Shepherd s Bush in October IN 2017 we concluded a 4m redevelopment project to complete the transformation of the old library, making the building more accessible, more sustainable, and open to even more people; allowing us to produce more work, reach out to more people, and support more artists. The building now comprises of a flexible 190 seat theatre, a second performance space, a rehearsal studio, a café bar, a newly developed terrace garden and a playtext library. The redeveloped building will also give us further capability to hire out our spaces for rehearsals, conferences, meetings, parties, comedy gigs and weddings. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Madani Younis, the Bush Theatre is committed to presenting a diverse and innovative programme of new writing that speaks to and reflects contemporary society in all its diversity. As we enter into this new phase in the life of the theatre, we are looking forward to another 40 years as West London s leading new writing theatre. Purpose of the Job The General Manager is responsible for the smooth and efficient day-to-day running of the Bush Theatre with particular focus on the systems and operations of our building. You will lead our administration department and play a lead role in operations, HR and policy, as well as a supporting role in compliance, governance and planning. Duties and Responsibilities Operations To manage the day to day administration of the company including office systems, internal communication, company information and overseeing the working environment delegating to the Theatre Administrator as appropriate.

3 To also be responsible for the day to day general management of the building including IT and telephone systems, safety and security procedures and maintenance in consultation with the Front of House and Production Manager. To oversee the Front of House operation, line managing the Front of House and ensuring that the Bush provides excellent customer care and high standards of service to all visitors. To oversee risk assessment procedures for productions and events and to sign off the auditorium when required. To act as a keyholder for the theatre. HR and Personnel To manage the HR function for the Bush Theatre. To oversee personnel administration, including recruitment, induction, employment contracts and visa issues, delegating to the Theatre Administrator as appropriate To oversee the Bush Theatre s performance management system. To oversee the Bush Theatre s approach to professional development for staff, maintaining records of staff training and working with line managers to identify suitable training opportunities for staff. To ensure that the Bush Theatre is compliant with all appropriate statutory and union regulations. Policies To ensure the Bush s policies are regularly updated, compliant, clearly communicated, implemented, and fit for purpose. To manage, support, implement and abide by the theatre s Health and Safety Policy, ensuring that all members of the company are trained in and comply with emergency and safety procedures. To actively monitor the Company s Equalities Policy and Action Plan (diversity, access, equal opportunities), ensuring all personnel are involved in its implementation. To actively lead and monitor the Company s Environmental Sustainability Policy and Action Plan, ensuring all personnel are involved in its implementation and taking responsibility for reporting and certification of the theatre s environmental performance. To ensure the highest standards of Child Protection and Safeguarding. Governance and Administration To manage board and subcommittee processes including the drafting of board papers as required, including agendas; to attend and minute Board meetings, and maintain board records. To liaise with Arts Council England and other public funders, including preparing the NPO annual submission and providing any other information as required by the Senior Management Team To support the Head of Finance in legal and statutory matters relating to the main company and its subsidiaries, and provide support and advice for the Senior Management Team on such matters. To be responsible for ensuring all premises, staff and productions are adequately insured.

4 Finance To manage administrative/operational budgets To oversee the ongoing review of supply contracts ensuring both value for money and ethical and environmental standards are achieved. Company To work in support of the artistic policy of the Bush Theatre. To sit as part of the Heads of Department to ensure the interests of the Operations department are met. To attend and chair weekly operations meetings. To attend regular Company meetings. Actively implement green policies and practices for all departments Adhere to, and actively contribute to, Bush Theatre policies, including Equalities (diversity, access, equal opportunities), Environmental and Health & Safety. To maximise income and minimise expenditure wherever possible, without jeopardising the quality of the work or the reputation of the Bush Theatre. To act always in the best interest of the Bush Theatre Any other duties as reasonably required. Person Specification Essential 3-4 years experience working in a comparable environment Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation Proven experience of HR management Proven experience as a line manager: motivating, set clear objectives, providing feedback, use of performance management processes Proven track record of managing, motivating and developing a wide range of staff Experience of building management Experience of preparing and negotiating contracts Experience of procurement and resource management Numerate and financially aware, with experience of budget management Absolute attention to detail A collaborative and team player approach to work Excellent interpersonal skills and good written and verbal communication skills Excellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to manage a busy workload, prioritise and work to deadline Commitment to best practice Ability to work with a calm manner under pressure
