1 CHIEF PROBATION OFFICER CAREER OPPORTUNITY Santa Barbara County is seeking a Chief Probation officer who will, under general administrative direction, plan and direct programs for adult and juvenile services, and juvenile institutions and perform related work as required. This position is responsible for the administration and direction of investigative, advisory, and supervisory services related to probation and county parole. CLOSING DATE FRIDAY OCTOBER 3, 2014
2 MISSION The Santa Barbara County Probation Department s mission is to protect and serve the community by: Providing information and recommendations to the Courts; Providing safe, secure and effective juvenile detention and treatment programs; Enforcing court orders and post release community supervision conditions, requiring offender responsibility/accountability, and supporting rehabilitation; and Providing victim services that include facilitating reparation and restitution to victims. THE DEPARTMENT The Probation Department, established in 1909, has been providing effective community corrections solutions to Santa Barbara County residents for over 100 years. The Department provides custody, education, vocational, and treatment services for juveniles detained at the Santa Maria Juvenile Hall and Los Prietos Boys Camp. The Department also provides investigation and supervision services for juvenile and adult offenders as ordered by the Santa Barbara County Superior Court, supervises adult offenders realigned to the county by the State as a result of the 2011 Public Safety Realignment Act, and provides victim assistance through notification services and the collection of restitution. The Department has implemented a wide variety of evidence based programs to strengthen families, suppress gang activity, and address alcohol and drug abuse as these behaviors contribute to criminal activity. These programs, created in collaboration with the Courts, schools, local law enforcement agencies, and county health and human services departments, are located throughout Santa Barbara County VISION The vision of Santa Barbara County Probation Department is to promote justice and safety in the community through: Delivering corrections services that are evidence based, community oriented, strength based, and family focused; Guiding, motivating, and directing offenders to take personal responsibility for their actions and facilitating case plans that support the success of probationers and realigned offenders in the community; Maintaining collaborative partnerships with Courts, law enforcement, schools, and community service agencies; Supporting victims by serving as an informational resource, establishing and collecting restitution, and providing balanced and restorative justice interventions for the community; and Encouraging active and informed citizen and community responses to crime.
3 LOCATION Santa Barbara County is a land of beautiful beaches and rolling hills covered with oaks and vineyards. Community celebrations as diverse as Old Spanish Days, Danish Days, Rodeos, Flower, Avocado and Lemon Festivals and an International Film Festival ensure that there is something here for everyone, and with an average temperature near 70, you can enjoy the scenery year round. With an area just over 2,700 miles, and a population of 433,398, there are a variety of communities to choose from, whether you are looking for a small town, or midsize city. Santa Barbara County has a number of institutions of higher learning including University of California Santa Barbara, Westmont College, Fielding Graduate Institute, Allan Hancock College and Santa Barbara City College. All institutions offer opportunities to participate in cultural, academic and sporting events. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Possession of: 1. Ensures alignment of department, division, program, project, and individual goals and efforts with department business objectives. 6. Ensures coordination of department efforts with affected internal and external stakeholders. SALARY RANGE: $58.26-$96.75 hourly $4, $7, Biweekly $10, $16, Monthly $121, $201, Annually
