MERCHANDISING Merchandising is more than simply the arrangement of products on the shelf or table. Merchandising is the display of products in such a way that it stimulates interest and entices customers to make a purchase. Ask yourself these questions each day: Is your store front attractive & inviting? Is all signage clearly visible and consistent? Is merchandise presentation appealing? Are seasonal and high-margin merchandise placed in high profile locations such as end caps? Overall, is the store appearance professional? Passionate people enhancing retail shopping experiences by executing high impact product presentations. A
AREA MERCHANDISING Goal: To merchandise more effectively based on selling location in order to drive sales. Purpose: To create a consistent merchandising plan that will allow the merchandising staff to plan their day rather than chasing racks. To be more productive measuring our success by the number of tables complete rather than the number of racks emptied. Procedure: Steps to ensure success A-Getting Started- Get vendor log in, check Lowes net for plant o gram and merchandising updates, print updates if necessary, walk the garden center to see what new product arrived, get rack count and send to supervisor. Note: Place racks once received to Corral for selling and pull racks from corral for merchandising. B- Store front- Work one table at a time starting with table # 1. Gather all racks that will be merchandised on storefront and get started. Pull distressed; add new product, stripe by color and height, face pots and tags, check signage, clean area. Note: Do not proceed to next area till all tables, A- frames, and landmines are complete on storefront. C- Greenhouse- Gather all products that will be merchandised in Greenhouse. Start on table #1. Pull distressed, add new product, stripe by color and height, face pots and tags, check signage, and clean area. Communicate product shortage to store personnel. D- Garden Center/ overflow racks- Work one table at a time starting with the Edible center. Gather all racks that will be merchandised on table. Pull distressed; add new product, stripe by color and height, face pots and tags, check signage, clean area. Condense overflow racks and organize product. Check signage. B
BIG BLOCKS OF COLOR Large blocks give the table a neater appearance, making consumers more likely to buy. If you have to include small quantities of another color in order to fill the table, put them between large blocks. If you notice that a particular color is not selling, let the store personnel and the salesperson for that product know. They may not be able to fix it, but will be able to plan better next year. If you can move a block off the table and replace it with something on a rack, do so. You have the power to make things sell with the choices that you make. C
Facing is Key Showcase brands by facing the pots toward the customer. Create a billboard that lets customers know that the branded products are something special. Notice that all of the images on the pots are aligned with the tags, adding to the visual effect and creating a feeling of neatness and organization. It is especially important to pull branded product the moment it becomes distressed these products are more expensive, and so should be premium 100% of the time. D
Storefront # 1 priority for successful execution of the Area merchandising Its up to you to set the tone of your store on the storefront. Remember, the appearance of this area will bring your customers through the gate. Your storefront may not have the exact number of tables depicted on the Plant O Gram. In those cases; annuals, perennials, and edibles have priority. E
6 pack table Large blocks of color give the table a neater appearance. Notice that there are no more than two varieties per table grid because anymore would make the table appear cluttered. Waterfalling is used to create the low to high progression in order to achieve the desired table appearance. Notice the annuals and hanging baskets are striped giving the table an even appearance. The Area merchandising system is used to spur sales by ensuring all tables will PASS inspection before moving to the next table. F
1.0pt table Large blocks of color give the table a neater appearance as a result attracting customer interest. White 7x10 pricing sign per grid on each side every 8 ft is necessary to provide pricing information. Signs should be changed when they become weathered or torn. 1.0 pt remain in plastic trays due to their small size. The Area merchandising system is used to spur sales by ensuring all tables will PASS inspection before moving to the next table. G
1.25 Quart Table Notice that there are no more than two varieties per table grid because anymore would make the table appear cluttered. White 7x10 pricing sign per grid on each side every 8 ft is necessary to provide pricing information. Signs should be changed when they become weathered or torn. Waterfalling is used to create the low to high progression in order to achieve the desired table appearance. J

A 7X10 pricing sign placed in a plastic sleeve is used for pricing and is centered on the A-frame. Notice that the best baskets available are showcased. The A-frame is merchandised as part of the storefront per the Area Merchandising system. M
Rack Program Rack programs are in place because stores are expected to increase their sales each year so they have become a necessary means of adding extra selling space. They are not intended to be on plant o gram so be sure rack programs are merchandised on the rack with product branding and tags faced. Rack program Racks usually come in priced with the 7X10 centered on the rack. Check with Supervisor for a current rack program update. N

This task is reserved only for Lowes employees. Merchandise on Lowes racks with like products grouped together for easier mark down. Clearance racks are condensed and organized daily. Removing racks as needed to maintain a high level of organization. Z1
Plant Preservation If you can increase the shelf life of foliage, roses, or shrubs by removing the yellowed leaves or dead buds then take the opportunity to do so while executing the Area Merchandising system at those locations. *Does not apply to annuals and perennials. Keep in mind that this task is meant to preserve an otherwise healthy plant and should not be utilized on a plant more suited for a clearance rack. Z2
Daily Reporting The Daily Report is a tool designed to build lines of communication with the merchandiser, store associates, and the GV supervisor while documenting daily accomplishments, problems, and ideas for a better work environment. Z3
