3 Intrductin 2-year review f the HRS4R at UCD This reprt prvides an update n actins prpsed in the first UCD HRS4R Actin Plan submitted t the Eurpean Cmmissin in July The reprt prvides an verview f prgress against stated actins and cmments n areas where prgress has nt been made t the same level. Where relevant, the reprt utlines prpsed next steps under the headings f the riginal actin areas. The reprt als utlines actins fr implementatin during under the brad headings f the Charter and Cde: Ethical and Prfessinal Aspects Recruitment Wrking Cnditins & Scial Security Training As this dcument seeks t prvide a brad verview f the implementatin f HRS4R at UCD it als prvides a descriptin f actins taken which are fully aligned t the principles f the Charter and Cde but were nt signalled in the Actin Plan in Finally, the reprt prvides a case study gd practice prject demnstrating the implementatin f HRS4R at UCD: the FP7 Marie Curie Actin COFUND Energy21 Pstdctral Fellwship Prgramme and utlines activities t embed and prmte the HRS4R internally in UCD and externally in the brader Eurpean research area. Overview f University Cllege Dublin (UCD) UCD is ne f Eurpe s leading research-intensive universities where undergraduate educatin, pstgraduate masters and PhD training, research, innvatin and cmmunity engagement frm a dynamic cntinuum f activity. The university was established in 1854 by Jhn Henry Newman whse classic wrk The Idea f a University is ne f the mst enduring texts n the value f higher educatin and a surce f inspiratin fr UCD s current educatinal philsphy. Tday UCD is Ireland s largest university with almst 25,000 students. It is the mst ppular destinatin fr Irish schl-leavers and actively prmtes university life as a jurney f academic and persnal discvery thrugh its highly innvative and flexible UCD Hrizns undergraduate curriculum. UCD is Ireland s leader in pstgraduate educatin with apprximately 7,000 pstgraduate students, representing apprximately 28% f the UCD student ppulatin, and almst 2,000 PhD students. Over 50% f UCD undergraduates prgress t pstgraduate studies. UCD is hme t ver 5,000 internatinal students and, in additin, places great emphasis n the internatinalisatin f the Irish student experience preparing all UCD students fr future emplyment and a life that crsses brders, bundaries and cultures. The rle f UCD within Irish higher educatin is underscred by the fact that UCD alne accunts fr ver 30% f internatinal students, ver 25% f all pstgraduate students and almst 28% f all dctral enrlments acrss the seven Irish universities. 3

4 UCD endrsed the Charter and Cde n 13th September, 2006 as part f the C-peratin Accrd 1 which states We recgnise the value f the Eurpean Charter fr Researchers and Cde f Cnduct fr their Recruitment and supprt and endrse the principles set dwn in them and wish t build n them. UCD is well placed t implement the actins under the HR Excellence in Research Award fllwing recent develpments in its supprts fr researchers in the university including the UCD Structured PhD prgramme and the implementatin f the UCD Research Careers Framewrk. The UCD Research Careers Framewrk establishes a structured and supprtive skills and early career develpment mdel fr Pstdctral Fellws, as recmmended in the sectral Advisry Science Cuncil (ASC) plicy dcument Twards a Framewrk fr Research Careers 2. The UCD Framewrk represents a jint initiative between UCD Research, Innvatin and Impact, and UCD HR. This initiative directly supprts UCD researchers in achieving their research and career gals. Fr pstgraduate researchers, the UCD Structured PhD aims t enable UCD PhD students t achieve the best pssible experience f graduate research and training

5 Methdlgy fr the UCD 2-year review The Taskfrce established in 2012 t carry ut the riginal Gap Analysis and Actin Plan recnvened with sme members remaining and new members added. Title: 2 YEAR REVIEW OF PROGRESS AND REVISED ACTIONS UNDER THE HR EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH HUMAN RESOURCE STRATEGY FOR RESEARCHERS (HRS4R) Duratin: SEPT 2014 JAN 2015 Purpse: The review seeks t: Assess prgress f stated Actins cntained within the UCD HRS4R Actin Plan 2012 Dcument activities in UCD which are aligned t the Charter and Cde but nt specified as Actins in the UCD HRS4R Actin Plan 2012 Outline new Actins prpsed fr the perid T describe best practice in implementing the Principles f the Charter and Cde T dcument activities taken t embed HRS4R in the gvernance structures and research supprt units T dcument activities taken t publicise HRS4R internally and externally Structure f the Task Frce: Research, Impact and Innvatin Grup (RIIG). Chair Prfessr Dlres Cahill PIs, Pst Dcs, PhDs, Research Staff Assciatin, Graduate Studies, Ethics, HR, UCD Research & Innvatin, Career Develpment Centre Membership: Relatinship with existing Grups: The Task Frce is cmprised f a wide range f researchers and university staff including pstgraduate and pstdctral researchers, members f the UCD Research Staff Assciatin, Principal Investigatrs, and representatives frm administrative units including UCD Research Ethics Office, Career Develpment Centre, Graduate Studies, Access Centre, Human Resurces, Research and Innvatin, Business Develpment, etc. The HRS4R Task Frce perated wrking grup f the Research Careers Sub-Cmmittee and infrmed this Sub-Cmmittee f its findings. 5

6 Embedding HRS4R in UCD Identifying gaps in researcher supprt and develpment against the Charter and Cde, implementing actins, and mnitring prgress are integral steps in the HRS4R. Since the riginal UCD Actin Plan in 2012, UCD has als sught t embed the HRS4R in gvernance structures f the university, acrss a number f management units and amngst researchers. This has been enhanced by tw recent develpments: 1. The Terms f Reference fr the RIIG Sub Cmmittee n Research Careers includes respnsibility fr the implementatin f the HRS4R. In additin, the fur thematic areas f the Charter and Cde (Ethical and Prfessinal aspects, Recruitment, Wrking Cnditins & Scial Security, Training) act as a framewrk fr the Sub-Cmmittee t prgress its wrk. As such HRS4R and the Charter and Cde are firmly embedded in the apprpriate structure in UCD. 2. A new HRS4R Wrking Grup cmprised f researchers and research management and supprt staff has been frmed. The need fr this grup arse due t the recgnitin that a mre cherent apprach t researcher career develpment and supprt wuld benefit the diverse range f management units in UCD, and cnsequently researchers themselves. The grup, cmprised f staff frm Research and Innvatin, HR, the Career Develpment Centre, Graduate Studies, the Office f Research Ethics, and the Research Staff Assciatin and ther researchers, will meet every 2 mnths t discuss the implementatin f actins cntained in this review and discuss best practice, pprtunities and challenges related t researcher supprt. 6

Ethical and Prfessinal aspects: Original Actins UCD will cntinue t cntribute t the discussin n Natinal Prtcls and facilitate the implementatin f the Natinal Prtcls fr Research Integrity as published by the Ryal Irish Academy and the Irish Universities Assciatin. UCD Research will facilitate the establishment f a Wrking Grup n Research Integrity and Research Ethics including researchers at all levels f the research career path, staff representatives frm UCD Office f Research Ethics Cmmittee, UCD Crprate and legal, UCD Graduate Studies Office, UCD Teaching and Learning, UCD Library, UCD Research & Innvatin. The Wrking Grup will develp mechanisms fr embedding gd research practice int the culture f all schlarship and prmte awareness f research integrity and research ethics issues, including supprts t prmte gd research practice t undergraduates, graduates and staff engaged in research. Specifically, it is suggested that a cmmn mdule, wrkshp r staff prgramme n research integrity principles and ethical practices be develped and applied as part f undergraduate, pstgraduate and researcher training 3. The Task Frce discussed several specific actins which the Wrking Grup may cnsider in rder t ensure that apprpriate research practices are embedding int the culture f UCD and researchers at all stages f their career including, fr example: Develp wrkshps n research integrity and research ethics Best practice in data management and strage Establishment f Research Ethics Officer at Schl level Establishment f Research Integrity Officer as Institutinal level Raise awareness f research integrity and research ethics acrss campus Design and disseminatin f handbk n research integrity and research ethics fr new researchers in UCD 3 As prpsed in the Discussin Dcument Ensuring Integrity in Irish Research 7

8 Ethical and Prfessinal aspects: Prgress t date In June 2014, the Irish Minister f State fr Research and Innvatin published the Natinal Plicy Statement n Ensuring Research Integrity in Ireland UCD staff members cntributed t this prcess and dcument. On ft f the Natinal Plicy Statement, UCD cmmitted t cmplete anup-t-date plicy n Research Integrity in the university. In Nvember 2014, the Research Plicy Wrking Grup, chaired by the Vice-President fr Research, Innvatin & Impact was established t prpse plicy and prcess fr research integrity, cnflict f interest, data management and research ethics. The HRS4R Prject Manager is als a member f the Research Plicy Wrking Grup. Despite the delay in establishing the wrking grup, wrk has prgressed under this actin. The Office f Research Ethics has held a number f stakehlder meetings with UCD Library, UCD HR, UCD Graduate Studies, UCD Teaching & Learning and UCD Research, with a view t synergising cmmunicatins with researchers and prviding an intercnnected apprach t research ethics and research integrity. Office f Research Ethics meetings with: UCD Library: library were prviding a new Research Data Management website which required input frm the Office f Research Ethics UCD Graduate Studies: t discuss hw and when t incrprate seminars n research ethics int the pstgraduate transferable skills mdules UCD HR: discussing hw and when t prvide seminars fr pst-dctral researchers Research Ethics Website In 2014 the Office f Research Ethics created a detailed webpage fr general guidance n Hrizn 2020 and included a self-assessment tl which has been widely cnsulted by the research cmmunity. Details here: Epigeum: nline tl fr Research Integrity UCD is ne f the Grup Develpment Members that have cntributed t the develpment f this nline tl fr research integrity. Epigeum is available fr all researchers in UCD and a link has been prvided n the Research Ethics website (see sectin belw). The Research Ethics Cmmittee agreed that a series f Epigeum wrkshps wuld be a useful methd f targeting structured PhDs, graduates in general and cmmittee members. There are 5 faculty versins n research integrity with 5 hurs f nline training and hurs f ffline training per versin t avail f. The Office f Research Ethics prvides UCD academic staff with access t the curse prgrammes

This is an applicatin management system accessed thrugh the UCD IT systems which assists the researcher in managing their multiple submissins and allws the Office f the Research Ethics t prcess, c-rdinate and manage all submissins. In additin, it prvides a useful recrd keeping system. The REMS was pilted fr the HREC frm April June The system was fully peratinal fr bth HRECs and the AREC in September 2013 fr the start f the new academic year. Ethical and Prfessinal aspects: New actins prpsed Actin t implement: Develp and prpse plicy t the RIIG n research integrity, cnflict f interest, data management and research ethics. Unit respnsible: The newly frmed (Nvember 2014) Sub-Grup f the UCD Research Innvatin and Impact Grup, the Research Plicy Sub-Cmmittee, chaired by the Vice-President fr Research, Innvatin & Impact. Metrics fr success: Develpment and implementatin f UCD Research Integrity Plicy. 9

10 2. Recruitment: Original actins Alteratins t the UCD Recruitment website will be made t include details n wrking cnditins fr all research psitins. Currently this infrmatin is nt as easily fund as it might be n this part f the UCD website. This actin will prvide mre clarity fr applicants t all research psitins. Fr the recruitment f early-stage (pstgraduate) researchers, UCD will maintain a variety f recruitment mechanisms at lcal level but will publish guidelines n best practice aspects f recruitment prcesses specifically fr early-stage researchers. Fr example, all recruitment f early-stage researchers shuld include: A brad descriptin f knwledge and cmpetencies required, building n the existing jb descriptins A descriptin f the wrking cnditins and entitlements, including career develpment prspects Adequate and standardised time between the advertisement f the vacancy r the call fr applicatins and the deadline fr reply Recruitment: Prgress t date Awareness Raising: The fcus f effrt arund the recruitment f early-stage (pstgraduate) researchers has been n awareness raising and simplifying the prcess f applicatin thrugh the UCD Graduate Studies website. During 2014 a campaign was run t entice students t Graduate Taught prgrammes by highlighting research cnducted by a number f UCD academics. This created an awareness f Graduate Research at UCD. Als in 2014, the Graduate Prspectus cntained a large sectin prfiling Graduate Research and this was als included in the Internatinal Graduate Brchure. Mre details are fund here (See page 12/13): A cmmn query fr early-stage researchers wh wish t jin UCD regards seeking clarity n the requirements and prcess r applicatin. T respnd t this, the Graduate Studies Office revamped the Structured PhD leaflet and included details f the prcess als. Please find the leaflet here: This is being distributed at events in bth Ireland and markets utside Ireland. Training Supervisrs fr recruitment: UCD Graduate Studies runs the Research Supervisr Supprt and Develpment Prgramme (RSSDP) targeted at new and inexperienced research supervisrs, althugh all supervisrs are welcme t attend. The RSSDP ffers wrkshps which are specifically targeted at assisting supervisrs in determining whether they are sufficiently expert in supervising research, and have the time, knwledge, experience, expertise and cmmitment t be able t ffer 10

11 the research trainee apprpriate supprt. They als help supervisrs prvide fr the necessary prgress and review prcedures, as well as feedback mechanisms. The prgramme, currently ffered ver a 6 mnth perid, ffers 7 wrkshps in key areas f best practice in research supervisin (primarily f dctral students but the prgramme is als relevant t supervisrs f Masters by Research students). These wrkshps are run cllabratively with Trinity Cllege Dublin (TCD). This ffers an pprtunity fr mixed disciplinary and institutinal staff t share experiences and develp practice. Engagement f cre wrkshps will lead t recgnitin n the supervisr s HR training recrds f their participatin. One f the mdules delivered as part f the RSSDP prgramme highlights the HRS4R prcess frm the Eurpean Cmmissin s perspective and hw it is being implementing in UCD. The purpse f including this tpic at the supervisr develpment prgramme is t underline the necessity fr supervisrs t be aware f the range f cnsideratins under the Charter and Cde and nt just the cntent f the research prject, when supprting pstgraduate researchers. Recruitment f Early-stage researchers: New actins prpsed Awareness Raising: UCD Graduate Studies will create mre infrmatin arund the Graduate Research prgrammes n the relevant sectin f the UCD website. Currently this is mre fcussed n Graduate Taught prgrammes. Develpment f the RSSDP: UCD frms part f a natinal cllabratin funded under NAIRTL n research supervisr supprt and played a key rle in the develpment f the practical nline guide fr Develping an Institutinal Framewrk fr Supprting Supervisrs f Research Students. Details here: The 2015 RSSD Prgramme will be a unique cllabrative ffering where UCD will partner with Trinity Cllege Dublin in the develpment and delivery f wrkshps. This nvel initiative will see the sharing f resurces as well as participants between institutins. Supervisrs will als be ffered access t natinal Master Classes prvided by NAIRTL n research supervisr supprt and develpment. Future plans anticipate frmal accreditatin fr the RSSDP which will be cunted twards CPD fr research supervisry staff. UCD Graduate Studies Office is respnsible fr this area Natinal and Internatinal Cllabratin n Research Supervisr Supprt: In 2014 UCD Graduate studies als embarked n a Universitas21 prject invlving the identificatin and adaptatin (as apprpriate) f practices in U21 universities wh lead in the area f supervisr develpment. One f the utcmes f this prject is the Internatinal Research Supervisr Supprt and Develpment Wrkshp being held in Shanghai Jia Tng University n March 25 th /26 th Deans and Directrs f Graduate Studies acrss the Universitas21 netwrk will be participating and discussing practices in research supervisin supprt. Wrking Cnditins & Scial Security: Original actins UCD will establish a Wrking Grup t determine researcher and institutinal requirements in terms f mbility and the prtability f research grants, including mechanisms such as entry and exit pint templates, plicy fr prtability f grants bth natinally and in the case f EU grants, internatinally, data management, prtability f pensins, prtability f research grants, Intellectual Prperty, patents, etc. 12

13 Wrking cnditins and scial security: Prgress t date Prtability f Research Grants: An initial draft template has been develped by the UCD Research EU Office fr External Eurpean Research Cuncil applicants t UCD. This template seeks t ease the applicatin prcess fr external applicants t UCD entering ERC cmpetitive prcesses. The Office has als develped a Review prcess fr ptential external ERC Applicants. Research Staff Orientatin: A pilt Pstdc Orientatin Event was held in Octber 2014 with a clear career develpment fcus as well as prviding infrmatin n the key supprts available t pstdcs new t UCD. The event which was pened by the VP fr Research, Innvatin & Impact included speakers frm the Principal Investigatr and pstdctral cmmunities, representatives frm the Research Staff Assciatin and key supprt areas, including UCD Research, the UCD Career Develpment Centre and HR Learning and Develpment. The event was attended by 20 pstdcs frm acrss the University and feedback n the event was very psitive and cnstructive. Supprting Gender balance in UCD: As utlined in the intrductin, this review prvides a descriptin f actins taken at UCD which are fully aligned t the principles f the Charter and Cde but were nt signalled in the Actin Plan in In this regard, imprtant prgress has been made t supprt UCD in achieving gender balance at all staff levels, particularly in the area f research. In December 2013, UCD supprted the initiative t bring the UK based Athena SWAN Charter t Ireland as a pilt and cmmitted t applying fr the Athena SWAN Brnze Institutinal Award during the curse f the pilt. UCD is represented n the Irish Natinal Crdinatin Cmmittee. A new rle was created and a gender prject manager tk up new psitin in June While mindful f the need t fcus n bth men and wmen in the cntext f achieving gender balance, in light f the identified challenges arund the inclusin f wmen, there is a fcus n the retentin, prgressin and attractin f female staff, particularly in the area f research. A gender prject plan has been develped including a specific plan t supprt UCD apply fr the Athena SWAN Award in April In line with the Athena SWAN framewrk, three actins are underway including: A self-assessment team (cmprising a steering grup and three wrking grups) An assessment f where the university is regarding gender equality, in quantitative (staff and student data) and qualitative (plicies, practices, systems and arrangements) terms, identifying bth challenges and pprtunities A plan that builds n the assessment, any activities that are already in place and what has been learnt frm these. 13

14 With an initial fcus n the STEMM areas, further wrk shall be undertaken t develp a framewrk fr the AHSS. In year ne, the fcus shall be n academic staff but in year tw and thereafter, it is envisaged that all staff shall be cnsidered. Key deliverables ver the next three years include Achievement f the Athena SWAN Institutinal Brnze Award Develpment f a framewrk t supprt gender equality actin planning in AHSS Three schls shall achieve Athena SWAN departmental awards. The gender equality actin planning prcess will identify further deliverables and metrics. 14

Actin area in Charter and Cde: During 2015/ 2016 the Pstdc Orientatin Event will be held n a quarterly basis and included in the pstdc Calendar f Events. The cntent and frmat f the event will be enhanced in line with feedback frm participants. 2. Actin area in Charter and Cde: Wrking cnditins, ethical and prfessinal cnsideratinsdiscriminatin: CnnectAbility is a prgramme designed t imprve hw disability is managed in the wrkplace within the University Sectr. 18 A wrking grup has been established t infrm the develpment f systems and prcesses that can supprt a mre rbust apprach t pstdc prfessinal develpment (i.e. nline prfessinal develpment plan, calendar f events with nline bking functinality, training recrd). The Standing Cmmittee fr Pstdctral Career Develpment (SCPCD) has been recnfigured as a subcmmittee f the University Research Innvatin and Impact Grup (RIIG, 2014) prviding a clearer gvernance structure and including the Dean f Graduate Studies. Quantitative data t supprt the evidence abve: A ttal f 116 ne-t-ne career develpment sessins were carried ut with 80 pstdc/ early stage research staff between April 2014 and Dec Since 2012, between 20 and 30 grup training events tailred t pstdc career and prfessinal develpment have taken place each year. Attendance at each event averages participants (i.e. pstdcs). Since April 2014 the panel discussin and infrmal netwrking frmat have been integrated int pstdc fferings t make clear links between the fur UCD develpment cmpetencies (i.e. Teaching, Learning & Mentring, Research and Research Management, Innvatin and Transferable Skills and Persnal and Prfessinal Excellence) and ptential career paths. Online evaluatins have been cnducted fr all pstdc events. This feedback is used t ensure the supprts available are fit fr purpse and meet the evlving needs f the pstdc ppulatin. A career develpment survey was distributed in July 2014 and apprx 35% f the pstdc ppulatin cmpleted it. This survey indicated psitive engagement with the services being prvided and prvided infrmatin as t hw the service culd be further imprved. Similarly, all 20 pstdcs wh attended the pilt pstdc rientatin in Oct 2014 prvided cmprehensive feedback, which was bth psitive and cnstructive. Since April 2014 a ttal f 13 events run fr pstdcs have engaged the PI cmmunity directly, thrugh fcus grups, speaking at events, facilitating a training sessin r being a participant n a training sessin (e.g. Mentr training, pstdc rientatin, grant-writing sessin, cmmunicatin skills training sessin). An integrated calendar f events has been in place since August This prvides pstdcs with seamless access t nline bking f curses and events while als building and maintaining a pstdc training recrd. 18

19 Increased numbers f jb placements There are a number f PhD prgrammes with an internship/placement cmpnent at UCD. Hwever, such internships tend t take place as part f the verall PhD research prgramme as ppsed t students having t register t a placement mdule, s it is hard t get an exact figure fr hw many actually take it up each year. The internships/placement vary between shrt 1-2 week affairs (wrk shadwing pprtunities) t thse that last fr 2-3 mnths when the student wrks/researches in a particular area related t their PhD research. Sme students undertake placements in rder t avail f facilities and expertise in ther institutins. Supprting researchers fr nn-academic career paths Since autumn 2012 UCD Research & Innvatin has develped a suite f supprts fr pstgraduate and pstdctral researchers applying t the Irish Research Cuncil schlarship/ fellwship funded prgrammes. The fcus n these awards is n the develpment f a brad skill base t prepare them fr a variety f emplyment pprtunities within and utside f academia. These supprts include an infrmatin sessin fr applicants and supervisrs, a Help Pack t guide applicants thrugh the applicatin frm, a read and review f draft applicatins, and nging administrative supprt fr applicants. 22 Similarly, UCD Research & Innvatin has prvided dedicated supprts t tw runds f the IRC s MSCA COFUND Pst dc Fellwship award in 2013 and Under this prgramme applicants can elect t carry ut part f their fellwship in a nn-academic setting. The suite f supprts included infrmatin sessins (registered attendees 116, 132 respectively) cvering all pst dc pprtunities under the IRC and Help Packs fr applicants t deal with questins in the applicatin frm. A key cmpnent in these schemes is the fcus n the Career & Training Develpment plan which frms 30% f the grades available. The UCD Enterprise Gateway was established in May 2014 t enhance UCD s partnerships with business, scial and cultural enterprises, gvernment agencies and ther stakehlders. Many f the mst exciting pprtunities lie at this interface, where the breadth and depth f knwledge in the university meet the expertise and demands f the enterprise envirnment. The Enterprise Gateway prvides a frnt dr supprt and facilitatin service fr businesses lking t wrk with UCD s research cmmunity. It als wrks with UCD s researchers t help them grw their interactins with businesses. They will prvide enhanced career perspectives in bth the academic and nn-academic sectrs thrugh internatinal, interdisciplinary and intersectral mbility cmbined with the innvatin-riented mind-set During 2013 and 2014 the UCD Research EU Office facilitated tw infrmatin sessins and tw prpsal writing training sessins fr prspective ITN Crdinatrs within the University, t apprximately 50 participants. Over the tw years 21 crdinatr ITN applicatins were submitted with a success rate f 14.3% ( : 6%; : 33%). The EU success rates fr these years were as fllws : 13%; : 10.5%. The Transferable Skills Prgramme is run by UCD Graduate Studies and ffers skills training which is aligned with the IUA (Irish Universities Assciatin) Skills Statement. Wrkshps are ffered t all dctral students. A number f elements f this prgramme address the imprtance f develping effective wrking relatinships between early stage researchers and their supervisrs r PI s. Participants had the ptin t d their practice teaching in their wn teaching envirnment. In additin t seminar discussin and practical teaching, participants prepared a reflective teaching prtfli t facilitate them in early nward career develpment. 18 pstdcs cmpleted the mdule and feedback was very psitive. 25 Factrs that have cntributed t a delay in prgress: Acknwledging that while nt every pstdc in the university may wish t access teaching pprtunities r develpment supprt in this area, the University shuld ensure that apprpriate measures are in place t facilitate thse that d. In this cntext, it is essential that clarity be prvided n this issue at university level. This may be in the frm r a university plicy prviding clear guidelines as t hw pstdcs can access teaching pprtunities as part f their develpment shuld they request it (setting ut a maximum number f hurs a pstdc can undertake teaching activities and als differentiate between the types f teaching undertaken e.g. lecturing, seminar teaching). The plicy shuld als state clearly hw pstdcs access teaching and develpment supprts and prvide guidance n hw this shuld be managed at lcal level. In additin, the issue f payment fr any hurs in excess f the upper limit agreed shuld be addressed. In rder t facilitate develpment f pstdcs in this area, and indeed, t prvide thse that wish t access teaching pprtunities, the prvisin f a develpment prgramme fr this grup f staff will prvide them with the pprtunity t learn abut and implement best teaching practices in a variety f settings. Participatin n the prgramme shuld be ptinal with the pstdc receiving full supprt frm their PI t undertake this prgramme. In terms f prgressing these issues the Dean f Graduate Studies is nw a member f the Research Careers Sub-cmmittee that will infrm and advise n matters relating t the prfessinal develpment f pstdctral researchers and reinfrce the cntinuum frm pstgraduate t pstdctral t mre senir researchers. Innvatin /entrepreneurial skills training as part f their Research and Prfessinal Develpment Plan (Early-stage Researchers) and Research Skills and Career Develpment Planning (Experienced Researchers) There are a number f curricular, c-curricular, and staff initiatives fr pstgraduate researchers acrss the University that make up the entrepreneurial ec-system n campus. UCD has develped many accredited curricular prgrammes in the areas f entrepreneurship, design, innvatin and creativity at varius schls acrss campus, including The Innvatin Academy (crss-disciplinary and reprting int the VP fr Research), the Smurfit Business Schl, the Quinn Schl f Business, the Schl f Engineering, Architecture, Cmputer Science, Schl f Bilgical and Envirnmental Science. While mst Schls prgrammes are specific t their respective disciplines, the Innvatin Academy s PhD mdules n ideatin and entrepreneurship are pen t applicants frm any discipline acrss the University.
