3 Job title: Hours: Central Expeditions Administrator 35 Hours per week, permanent Reports to: Office Manager Location: Central England Regional Office, Sutton Coldfield Summary and main purpose The Duke of Edinburgh s Award (the DofE) is a UK charity that makes a difference to young people s lives. Over 300,000 young people per year from every possible background take part in a DofE programme to broaden their horizons, develop their leadership skills, learn to work with others, volunteer in their local communities, increase their employability, and prove to themselves they can succeed at a serious challenge. The main purpose of this role is to provide administrative support for expedition related matters within the Central England Regional Office.

4 Key accountabilities To process expedition notifications (Red and Green Forms) received for the Peak and the Severn and Wye Networks and ensure that these notifications meet the DofE expedition criteria. To communicate with Leaders regarding their notifications and offer suggestions and amendments where required. To answer general expedition queries from DofE Leaders and Licensed Organisations. To deal with expedition complaints and queries and deal with stake holders such as the National Park, Mountain Rescue, Local Authorities and other interested user groups. To maintain the network of assessors who support expeditions in the Region and ensure that all have appropriate paperwork in place. To identify Assessors who can undertake an assessment where a team has requested a Network Assessor. To administer the redemption of Assessment vouchers and the payment of Assessors expenses. To support Assessors where they may have issues with teams whilst on expedition during working hours. To support the administration of expedition-related training To co-ordinate training for Leaders and Network Assessors and to organise training events as required in order to support the continued growth of the DofE in the Region. To organise and facilitate CEAN meetings as appropriate. Contribute to the Regional newsletter and social media platforms, with appropriate content. To provide the Office Manager, and Regional Director, with reports and statistical data as and when required. To carry out any other reasonable duties requested by the Regional Office Manager, commensurate to the post. 4

5 Qualities and knowledge Essential A comprehensive knowledge of the DofE Expedition section. A good standard of education, particularly in English and maths. Good IT skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and the internet. Good telephone manner. Able to work without direct supervision and on their own initiative. Good attention to detail. Good knowledge of the Peak District and the Severn and Wye. Desirable Experience in Training and working with adults Experience in managing staff or a team of volunteers Outdoor qualifications An Accredited Gold Assessor A good level of knowledge of the other sections of the DofE Full Driving licence and access to your own car for work Competencies Conscientious. Enthusiastic. Flexible in approach. Measures of success Green and Red Forms processed within set timescales directed by the Regional Office. Accurate DofE advice and guidance given to Leaders. Network Assessors supported during office hours. Expeditions taking place comply with the 20 conditions of the Expedition section. Assessor database maintained to meet demand. Training courses administered effectively. DofE values are demonstrated in all work carried out. Qualities Ability to work as a team member. Ability to work under pressure. Ability to prioritise. 6 What is the DofE? Anyone aged can do a DofE programme at one of three progressive levels which, when successfully completed, leads to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh s Award. There are four sections to complete at Bronze and Silver level and five at Gold. With assistance from DofE Leaders, young people will select and set objectives in each of the following areas: Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community. This cannot be for a business or family member but can be for a charity or for a not-for-profit organisation. Examples: Raising money for a charity. Being a football coach. Helping at an after-school club. Physical: improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities. Examples: Joining a local athletics club. Improving their martial arts skills. Taking weekly dance lessons. Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests. Examples: Learning how to juggle. Improving musical skills. Build a website, blog or video diary. Expedition: planning, training for and completing a supervised adventurous journey as one of a team in the UK or abroad. It can be by canoe, kayak or boat; on foot; on horseback; by wheelchair or by bicycle. At Gold level, participants must do an additional fifth Residential section, which involves staying and working away from home doing a shared activity. Examples: Assisting at a kids summer camp. Helping deafblind young people and adults to enjoy a holiday in France. Joining a conservation camp.
