Over 275,000 young people per year from every possible background take part in the DofE programme to broaden their horizons, develop their leadership skills, learn to work with others, volunteer in their local communities, increase their employability, and prove to themselves they can succeed at a serious challenge.
3 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: DofE Youth Support Worker Reporting to: Unit Manager/DofE coordinator Pay: per hour Contract type: Permanent Part Time Location: Woolwich Common Youth Club Days and hours of work: 5 hours per week + weekend/overnight expeditions at least 3 times per year. Document created: March 2018 Ref number DofE/CACT/18 Purpose of the Role: The role of a DofE Youth Support Worker includes working face to face sessions delivering a range of training and support to enable participants to complete their award at bronze, silver and gold level. The role will also involve administrative tasks to prepare for session delivery and expeditions. The role includes the use of the edofe database system to track and manage DofE groups within the centre. Within CACT, the DofE programme has so far worked with 100 s of young people successfully supporting them in working towards completing their award. The project has continued to grow and reach out to young people through open access youth provision, with an increasing number of participants enrolling with us. Offering a rolling programme of small group training sessions to develop the skills required, the project successfully delivers practice and assessed expeditions throughout the season. DofE CACT also continues to support the young people it works with by offering ongoing support and further opportunities for participants, such as our DofE ambassador scheme and volunteering programme. Key Responsibilities (but not limited to): Ensure the delivery of high quality programmes to young people in DofE groups. Manage the provision of a safe and enjoyable DofE programme for participants in DofE groups. Encourage the use of edofe by participants and agree the completion of Awards (where appropriate). Celebrate achievements of participants by supporting in the organisation of award ceremonies and presentations.
4 Use edofe to actively manage DofE groups and monitor progress of particpants, target rates and completions. Support in registering participants and ensuring that all necessary registration/expedition paperwork has been correctly completed in line with CACT membership/off site guidelines procedures Be a champion for the DofE within the DofE centre and actively promote the DofE within the local community to support recruitment of new participants and raise awareness of the project. Be prepared to undertake relevant DofE training including e-induction, Introduction to the DofE and expedition training courses.
5 PERSON SPECIFICATION Job title: DofE Youth Support Worker Person Specification Attributes Essential Desirable Qualifications and experience Skills, ability & knowledge Experience of working with young people. An ability to communicate with adults and young people, both verbally and in writing. A good understanding of the DofE programme and its features. An ability to organise and plan effectively. IT literate and confident in use of the edofe system. Able to provide inspirational delivery of the DofE programme and motivate young people in completing their award. Build, maintain and facilitate effective working relationships with a wide range of people. Plan, manage and monitor tasks and time within working sessions. Experience of delivering DofE programmes for young people or experience of completing the DofE award at Silver or Gold level. Knowledge of current issues affecting young people. Driving license - ideally with D1 (mini bus) category. Personal qualities Integrity and honesty. Committed to ensuring high standards. Commitment to DofE s guiding principles. Flexible approach. Self-motivated. Team player.
