1 Youth Engagement Project Officer (Foundation) Position Type: Salary: Benefits: Location: Permanent, Full Time (35 hours per week) 21,000 per annum 25 days annual leave Contributory pension scheme Life assurance Healthcare cash plan WHU Foundation, Beckton Closing Date: 20 th July 2017 Job Purpose: To lead and deliver on a youth project based around building and enhancing engagement through the Community within east London & Essex. To ensure activities are safe and suitable for all participants involved. To supervise and support participants ensuring protocols are followed at all times. To contribute to the WHU Foundation mission of encouraging sports participation, promoting health and wellbeing and improvement life opportunities. Key Responsibilities: Manage and oversee a new Youth Engagement Project. Manage and oversee delivery of the project across six hub sites Be able to deliver football and multi-sport sessions Ensure Youth Engagement is promoted at all levels within the project Support the delivery and timetabling of all relating activities Contribute to increasing levels of physical activity of the participants Ensure delivery of the tailored programme set by WHUF and key partners

2 Develop & maintain effective and positive relationships with all partner and community organisations Deliver and maintain all reviewing processes and required reporting Lead on all Monitoring and Evaluation WHU Foundation Youth Engagement Project Officer will be supported in their work by: Supervision in the workplace from the Community Sports Manager Project Engagement: Maintain and develop relationships with delivery venues and hubsites Bring participants into the project through community outreach (including large scale events such as the Mayor s Newham Show, Community Forum events) and West Ham United FC communications and local non-professional football clubs Develop work through listening and exploring ways to respond in relation to need and potential, expressed by participants engaged Enable youth participants to become involved in engaging activities, learning points and to develop skills which will contribute to increased engagement in the area To identify the needs of hub-sites, participants and partners to put together a work plan including objectives, outputs and outcomes relevant to appropriate timescales. Liaise with local sports and activities clubs and leisure providers to provide a range of possible exit strategies and pathways for individuals from the project Programme Development and Delivery: Develop specific targeted interventions with partners to engage the target group in engaging provisions Develop a participant pathway that creates further opportunities for individuals. Ensure that a youth voice, via our existing Youth Forum, helps to shape delivery so that maximise Youth Engagement Work to ensure that the project model is one that can become sustainable.

3 Partnership working: To work in partnership with other agencies identified within the project, and identify individuals, groups, and other organisations to support and develop delivery To work through a partnership approach to identify the barriers preventing the easy engagement of youth at all levels To service partnership meetings, including attending and presenting at regular meetings; Work in partnership with other workers and agencies as necessary; Events and Training: Supervise promotional and celebratory events and road shows across London and Essex Identify participants within the project who may benefit from further programmes and signpost accordingly To use the project as a tool to enhance the training and development of apprentices and youth placements. Monitoring and Evaluation: To carry out administrative duties as necessary e.g. maintain accurate attendance, registers, and quality assurance. To contribute towards evaluation and ensure monitoring systems are consistently maintained as directed by the Community Sports Manager. Other: To provide an accessible and flexible approach always, including the working of unsocial hours, evening and weekend working as necessary and other duties as reasonably requested Adhere to policies and procedures outlined by the Community Sports Manager. Freedom to act: Independently organise work plan, information storage, retrieval and collation systems, diary and working time (including out of hours) Regular lone working in the community. Communication:

4 Use of highly developed culturally competent communication skills with the local youth, community members and organisations to negotiate, influence, and resolve conflict that may arise Facilitate the involvement of community members in the reporting of needs, outputs and outcome. Person Specification The ideal candidate will have skills and experience in the following areas: - Essential (E) Desirable (D) Education/Qualifications/Training: Level 2 Coaching Qualification (E) FA Youth Modules 1 & 2 or working towards (E) Emergency First Aid Certificate (E) Safeguarding Awareness Training (E) Member of FA Licenced Coaches Club or relevant awarding body (E) Multi Sports Coaching Qualifications (E) Project management qualifications or working towards (E) Specific Experience: Experience of delivering sports coaching within the community (E) Abilities/Skills/Knowledge: Demonstrate an understanding of youth delivery and engagement strategies Demonstrate a good understanding of how to engage young people Demonstrate good skills and experience around working with partners Demonstrate an understanding of how to improve sports participation Demonstrate a basic understanding of marketing and how this is relevant to youth engagement Must be able to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication / presentation skills, which are culturally competent ICT Literate Demonstrable skills in negotiation, influencing and conflict resolution Able to work within a diverse community and draw on individual strengths to promote project participation Able to communicate with participants, partner agencies and the public. Good organisational skills, able to prioritise and work within deadlines
