1 SUPERVISOR-SUPPORTED ASSESSMENT TOOL FOR THE AUSTRALIAN COMMUNITY WORK PRACTICE GUIDELINES Hw t use the assessment tl This assessment tl has been designed fr a practitiner and supervisr t wrk thrugh tgether. The indicatrs are taken frm the Australian Cmmunity Wrk Practice Guidelines and represent the ideal in prfessinal practice. Clearly n tw practitiners r wrkplaces are the same and sme indicatrs will nt apply t either a particular wrkplace r wrker. In this case, the facility shuld be used. Ideally each indicatr (where it is relevant within the wrkplace) shuld be in evidence. We recgnise, hwever, that sme f the indicatrs f gd practice may be nly partially in evidence if, fr example, a practitiner is new t the jb, the rganisatin is part f a larger rganisatin, r the practitiner is a new graduate r emplyee. In recgnitin f this the indicatrs can be answered as yes, n, partially r. Indicatrs marked partially may help identify pprtunities fr prfessinal develpment. The tl als prvides space fr ntes r evidence if there is a need t demnstrate why an indicatr has been addressed in a particular way, r if there is fundamental disagreement between practitiner and supervisr. We are nt expecting a perfect scre but an experienced practitiner shuld be able t answer yes t mst f the statements; inexperienced staff shuld regard the respnses n and partially as a learning pprtunity nt as a failure. Wrking thrugh the assessment tl with a supervisr als prvides a psitive pprtunity fr an rganisatin t recgnise where training pprtunities, plicy develpment and learning resurces fr staff can be strengthened.
