2 INTRODUCTION Afric RISING frmers field dy ws orgnized from Octoer 03 to 06, 2017 in Bougouni nd Koutil districts t the four technology prks (Flol, Mdin, M Pesso nd N goloninsso) in prtnership with Sorghum nd Millet scling project (ARDT_SMS). The visit ws ttended y more thn 300 people in ech district. The min ojective of the fmers field dy ws to enhnce wreness of frmers nd regionl griculture extension workers on Afric RISING est technologies nd innovtions tht sustinly intensify griculturl productivity. The four technology prks were implemented in the yer 2015 to 2016 s sites for reserch, cpcity uilding nd outrech (dissemintion) of est technologies. In Bougouni the guest of honour ws the representtive of the district developpement council nd griculture service of Bougouni. The myors of Frdiele nd Kouroulmini communes, reserchers from ICRISAT, IER, WorldVeg nd the president of FENABE were lso present. In Koutil the frmers field dy ws honored y the deputy Prefet or chirwomn of the district government (Koutil circle ). M pesso villge chief nd myor ( mire ) of the M Pesso municiplity lso ttended the field dy. Other representtives included reserchers from ICRISAT, World Veg nd heds of the prtner NGOs (AMEDD, AMASSA, CAAD), the technicl services of Koutil circle (Agriculture, Livestock, Wter nd Forestry, Helth) nd locl rdio sttions nd more thn three hundred frmers from the five intervention villges (Sirkélé, Znsoni, Nmpossél, N'goloninsso nd M'pesso,). Bougouni district frmers field dy In Bougouni the frmer field dy took plce on 3 rd Octoer 2017 t the two technology prks, Flol nd Mdin which re locted t 24 nd 20 km respectively from Bougouni town. The locl event ws fcilitted y FENABE nd the site coordintor. A totl of 60 Afric RISING eneficiries (Flol: 20, Die: 10, Siiril: 10; Mdin: 20) nd 152 frmers from ARDT_SMS prtners in Bougouni (AOPP: 13; EUCORD: 63; CMDT: 13 nd Mlimrk: 63) ttended the field dy. The progrm of the field dy strted in the morning t Flol Technology Prk with trditionl music nd nd dnce ws plyed to welcome visitors. The ceremony strted t 10:00 AM t Flol nd ended t 4PM t Mdin technology prk. In his opening remrk Mr. Toumni Sidié, the coordintor of FENABE, presented the villge Chief nd mde rief description of the dily progrm. The villge chief of Flol thnked Afric RISING progrm for the inititive nd welcomed the tem with 10 cols nuts. Dr. Birhnu Zemdim, coordintor of Afric RISING Mli, thnked everyody for coming nd the Chief villge for the welcoming. He mentioned the presence of the Chief Scientist Dr. Asmoh Lri who cme from Ghn for the Frmer s field dy nd mke importnt contriution y witnessing the vlue for money. For this second phse, the Chief scientist encourged frmers to work on promising technologies tht re developed in phse I nd showcsed t the technology prks. 3 Visiting technologies: Prticipnts proceeded to guided visit of the technologies in the prks. The technologies visited included soil fertility mngement trils with cow mnure, poultry mnure nd minerl fertilizer tested on 3 vrieties of sorghum (Fdd, Soum nd Tiele), contour ounding trils on mize (Sotuk) nd sorghum (Plo), nd demonstrtion of Integrted Strig nd Soil Fertility Mngement (ISFM) through intercropping of Sorghum nd Cowpe in ddition to micro dosing of minerl fertilizer. One importnt oservtion mde here ws the field plots of onion nd okr impressed femle nd mle frmers. the presenttion of doule purpose sorghum nd sorghum hyrid technologies ws lso done (Figure 3). Prticipnts were riefed with the difference etween sorghum hyrids nd locl vrieties of sorghum, nd use of doule purpose sorghum s source of niml feed nd humn nutrition. Dr Nntoume explined thoroughly the concept of the silge mking, the conditioning

4 of the chopped strw nd its stocking in the silos for lter use. Prticipnts were enthusistic during the presenttion nd sked mny questions nswered y the presenter nd the technicins. Severl comments nd questions were mde on the technologies nd nswers were provided y reserchers nd other contriuting prtners. Frmers provided their testimonils regrding the technologies nd the Afric RISING progrm in generl s follows: Adm Smke: 36 yers old frmer in Flol. I ws mong the first group of frmers who were supported nd trined to uild contour unding in my field to control erosion nd improve the fertility of the frm lnd. With the presence of unds my crops re still green while most of the nery fields were hit y dry spells nd most crops died. Zie Smke: 40-yer-old frmer nd seed producer in Mdin. He encourged his fellow frmers to show more interest for the trining ctivities nd to dopt the developed technologies. He regretted to oserve few of his fellow frmers re more ttrcted to the food nd drinks provided thn understnding the use of the technologies nd he lerted frmers to mximize the technologies ville to them. Mr Goit who is the representtive of the district griculture services thnked the prticipnts for their enggement nd encourged frmers to dopt the technologies, nd the messge ws gin echoed y Dr Birhnu who stressed the importnce of the technologies nd dvised frmers to tke dvntge of the opportunities provided. The field dy ended with the words of the myor of Frdiele who thnked ll the prticipnts for their time nd wished everyone sfe journey ck. The event of the field dy ws recorded nd rodcsted y Rdio Bnimonotie in Bougouni district.

5 Koutil site frmers field dy In Koutil the frmer field dy took plce on 5 th Octoer 2017 t M Pesso nd N Goloninsso technology prks. A trditionl music nd ws plyed to welcome visitors. Welcoming speech ws provided y AMEDD nd the villge chief. Afric RISING Mli coordintor nd the chief scientist lso mde opening remrks. The guest of honor mentioned the importnce of the field dy for griculturl ctors nd thnked the prtnership of interntionl nd ntionl ctors. Visiting technologies: Different trils tht include intercropping of sorghum with cowpe, soil nd wter conservtion technology, production of improved composting, dul purpose nd hyrid sorghum nd different trils of vegetle production were visited (Figure 5). Similr to the event in Bougouni prticipnts discussed severl technology nd reflected their views. Questions concerning the dvntges nd disdvntges of using fertilizers, nd the time it tkes to produce compost using cotton nd sorghum stems were discussed. Advntges of dul purpose nd sorghum hyrid ws discussed s well.
