2 SHEEP AUCTIONEER STEVE PROUSE DRAFT EWES A small entry met a flying trade from start to finish with an overall average of 77.46, the highest overall average seen in the South West this week. Several pens around 90 to a top of 91 from Phil Collett of Boscastle. FAT HOGGS The well fleshed hoggs in keen demand and a lot more were needed to fulfil buyers orders. Top per kilo and per head was 184p for a pen of 48 kilo Texel at for Phil Collett of Boscastle. 56 STORE HOGGS A small entry, with several hill bred hoggs on offer, met a strong trade. Top on the day was 64 from Bill & Richard Pethick of Trevalga, Boscastle. COUPLES 22E & 33L More on offer met with more interest, with more potential purchasers in attendance. Several singles around 100 to a top of 112 for Texel x from Richard Jellard of Kersworthy, North Petherwin. Doubles topped at 140 sold by Vernon Bright of Poundstock. 3 STORE CATTLE AUCTIONEER RICHARD DENNIS 170 STORE CATTLE An increase in numbers this week, with a better run of cattle and several fresh spring buyers now looking to source cattle. Top price flew away to 1240 for a grand bunch of five Charolais x steers at 22 months old sold by Messrs RG, BM & AP Varcoe from Withiel, who also went on to sell another bunch of three Charolais x steers at 23 months old for 1200 and another bunch at 22 months old also achieving Not far behind with a good run of Hereford x steers from Mr LR Pengelly from Buddock sold his best 22 month old steer for 1235, with another pair at the same age for 1195, with four at 1190 and other bunches going at 1165, 1115 and Messrs RGT & GE Gilbert from Ruan Minor sold three 22 month old South Devon x steers for 1025 and five Saler x steers at 21 months old making 975. A 25 month old South Devon x steer made 915 for Messrs TE & JM Bayly & Sons from Warbstow and Hereford x steers at 18 months old sold for 845 (x5) on behalf of Messrs D & PME Hill from Blisland and also two Aberdeen Angus x steers at 18 months old sold well to make 810 for Mr E Sleeman from Treneglos. Heifers sold to 885 for a bunch of four Limousin x heifers at 21 months old for Trenant Meat & Forage from Liskeard, who also sold five Aberdeen Angus x heifers at 24 months old for 800 and four Beef Shorthorn x heifers at 19 months old for 780. Messrs JP & TC Chapman from Truro saw the pick of their heifers sell for 872 for a bunch of four Limousin x heifers at 24 months old and Mr E Sleeman sold an Aberdeen Angus x heifer at 18 months old for 870. Three South Devon x heifers at 20 months old sold for 835 on behalf of Mr DJ Richards from Altarnun. 20 ORGANIC CATTLE A fast trade for all on offer, with five 23 month old Welsh Black steers achieving 1040 for Mr CR Oates from Helston, who went on to sell a further four also at 23 months old for 950, and topping the heifer section again with Welsh Blacks making 885 for a bunch of five at 22 months old. 4 Vacancy at the Holsworthy Livestock Market Yardsperson/Site Supervisor Required We require a full time Yardsperson/Site Supervisor at the new Holsworthy Livestock Market to undertake all necessary duties to prepare the market for market days and ensuring the market is subsequently cleaned to a high standard. The role includes coordinating and dealing with the maintenance of the market to ensure it is kept in good working order, completing all checks and maintenance to comply with the warranties and health and safety provisions together with unlocking and locking of the site when in use. Likely duties will include undertaking general cleaning and maintenance, managing the dirty water system, bedding up, using a pressure washer, tractor and skidsteer and other hands on tasks around the market. A background in agriculture is an advantage but not essential. Working Hours: Monday to Friday 8.00am to 6.00pm. Earlier start required on market days.
