2 323 STORE CATTLE & STIRKS 10AM Auctioneers: Simon Alford Alan Webber Steers to 1300 Heifers to 1190 Another good August entry of store and finishing cattle when the top price of 1300 was paid for a 27 month British Blue steer the property of DB Hawkins & Son of Awliscombe. A well fed Salers heifer of similar age again from the Hawkins family raced to A tremendous entry of forward Charolais and Angus bullocks from MJ Freegard of Averton Giffard saw 27 month steers to 1250, 1220, 1175 etc. A single Simmental steer of 24 months for JW Searle & Partners of Crediton made 1220 and a 19 month bullock of the same breed to 1075 for Shillingham Farm Partners, also 1035 for Danny Semorad of North Tawton and 1025 for H Bond & Daughters of Bovey Tracey. A group of three smart Blues in the 2 year age range made 1160 for Ruby Ventures of Abbotskerswell, with other Blues to 1070 for 18 month animals again from Messrs Semorad. Best 23 month Limousins to 1070 for Gerald Beard of Bickington and 2 year old South Devons to 1100 for DV Lee of Farway while month steers from Steve Smith of Colebrooke sold in matching groups at 1075 and 1020 etc. Herefords to 980 for three 24 month steers from Russell & Alison Retter of Cotleigh, with others close at 975 for Mark White of Branscombe. A number of Black and Whites presented for sale were no dearer than of late as buyers were more selective on the back of an easing fat trade. Best to 970 in an entry of fifteen from Raymond Middleton with others at 850 and 780. A smart entry of fifteen Angus x Charolais cattle from Les Palmer of Chillington saw month steers selling to 1060 (x6), 1020 (x2) and 980 (x4) and heifers to 900. A bunch of four month Blonde heifers from Danny Semorad realised 1060 with others to 1025 and Blues off the same farm to A consignment from the John Mead Estate at South Brent of 14 month Charolais heifers sold in groups to 840, 760 and 710. A quality entry of both suckler bred and dairy sorts sold to another tremendous trade once again defying the doom and gloom in other farming sectors. Top price of the day was 900 given for Shaldon s John Towell s superb 10 month Limousin cross steer. More first class steers of the same breed from John Jordan & Sons of Gidleigh rose to 855 (x3) with South Devon s to 790 (x4). Well-bred heifers, again from the Jordan s hit a high of 705 for Limousin s and 685 for Salers. David Cox of Rackenford brought his usual excellent sorts and saw his Limousin steer calves to 790 and Angus heifers to 545 whilst Simmental steers from Nigel Reed of Ashburton sold to 700. Dairy bred Angus heifers at 10 and 8 months of age reached 555 and 480 respectively for SG Brimacombe of Yeoford with bunches of neat 6 month old Holstein steers to 375 (x8) and 355 (x4) for Alex Weaving of Bridford. Another large entry of calves sold to a flying trade! Top of the day was 460 for a weaned Aberdeen Angus steer from Mr GMA Chugg of Farway who sold others at 410 and a Hereford at 430. Other Aberdeen Angus sold to 425 achieved for 7 weaned calves from Russell Risdon of Camelford who also sold 10 weaned Angus Heifers well at 360. British Blue bulls sold to 425 & 420 for Anthony & Gill Bond of Honiton with others to 400 for Keith & Jane Hulbert of Honiton and 355 for Mike Hooper of Spreyton. Limousin bulls sold to 402 for Messrs TA Westaway of Crediton and others to 395 for Kathryn Starr of Dunkeswell and 350 for Mike Hooper. Charolais bulls sold to 390 for Frank Pike of Cullompton. Heifers topped at 440 for A British Blue from TA Westaway with others to 365 for a classy young British Blue from David Mortimer of Sowton, 320 for Mike Hooper and 308 for Keith & Jane 82 STIRKS & SUCKLED CALVES 11.30AM Auctioneer: Simon Alford CALVES AM Auctioneer: Mark Davis CALVES am Auctioneer: Mark Davis CALVES Bulls Heifers Breed TOP AVE TOP AVE British Blue Simmental Charolais Limousin Hereford Aberdeen Angus Holstein / Friesian Swedish Red Ayrshire Norwegian Red Hulbert. Simmental heifers to 295 for Colin Slade of Widecombe-in-the-Moor. Friesians were a strong trade for the best topping at 215 for Robert Drake of Shillingford Abbot with others to 188 and 182 for Nick Maynard of Awliscombe, 180, 165, 155 and 130 for Anthony & Gill Bond, 158 & 110 for Steve Loud of Colyton and a cracking run of 23 two-three week old Friesian and Swedish Red bull calves from Weavian Farms of Bideford met strong competition topping at 160 with others to 155, 150, 130, 125 and 120 x 3 and the consignment averaged 100. An Ayrshire bull sold at 300 for Messrs RWC Beard of Newton Abbot.

3 1050 SHEEP - 11AM Auctioneer: Russell Steer STORE LAMB Slightly fewer forward were a slightly easier trade. A shortage of best lambs and ewe lambs saw lambs top at 63 for Chris Heath of Kingsbridge who had leaner & smaller sorts at & 56. Others to 59 & for Mark Kimber of Merton, for Robert Moule of Totnes and no less than 12 pens sold at 55 for five different vendors. Medium term types were generally for lowland types, hill bred sorts 6-8 less than that. Smalls easily 40 plus if lowland, hill types 30 plus. Plenty of hill types on offer saw John Hodge of Okehampton sell Welsh Tup lambs to 46, small welsh mules from Brian Rendle of Ivybridge to and Jonathan Bell of Ugborough s Herdwicks made 38. All lambs averaged which is back 2.93 on last week. 38 GRAZING EWES Genuine grazers sold to for Andrew Chudley of Moretonhampstead, & 51 for A Klinkenberg of Bovey Tracey and 52 for CS White of Sidmouth. 23 BREEDING EWES & RAMS A handful of Breeding ewes sold to 100, 92 & 90 for continental cross shearling ewes that had mainly reared lambs from Ray Tucker of Whitestone. Quality shearling Rams sold to 320 for a Charollais from Norman & Brian Clothier of Stoneaston and 290 twice for Mike Waycott of Ashburton with Suffolks.
