1 Software Announcement February 24, 2004 IBM SurePOS ACE V3 delivers new functionality and now supports the IBM Store Integration Framework with a Java GUI and Java/XML toolkit Overview The IBM SurePOS Application Client/Server Environment (ACE) V3 and IBM Electronic Payment Support (EPS) V3 add exciting new functionality and are now positioned to use the IBM Store Integration Framework (SIF) to support e-business on demand in the store environment. The Store Integration Framework graphical user interface, which is an integral part of this framework and also a feature of ACE V3, will deliver an enhanced Java GUI and Java/XML toolkit to develop simple, intuitive user interfaces for ACE. Those retailers who have invested in the SureVision GUI to extend ACE can protect those extensions as they move to this new enhanced GUI. Key prerequisites ACE V3 without the IBM Store Integrator GUI Edition feature requires the following: A 4693 or 4694 terminal with a minimum of 16 MB of memory. It will also run on the SurePOS 700 Series terminals that are supported by the 4690 OS. The 4690 OS controller for ACE is a minimum P100 MHz (4690 OS V3) with at least 64 MB of memory. IBM 4690 Operating System V3.3 (5639-M77, with corrective service diskette [CSD] level 04H0 or later). ACE V3 with the IBM Store Integrator GUI Edition feature requires the following: IBM 4690 Operating System V3.3 (5639-M77 with CSD level 04H0 or later). ICESoft e-lite Browser (5799-RLH) Version 5.4. For terminals: To utilize the Operator GUI, a minimum of 224 MB of RAM and a 500 MHz processor. To utilize the Customer GUI, a minimum of 224 MB of RAM and a 500 MHz processor. To utilize Dual graphical displays (both operator and customer GUIs), a minimum of 224MB of RAM and an 850 MHz processor. Controller requirements: IBM recommends a minimum 500 MHz processor and 128 MB of RAM. The IBM Store Integrator GUI Edition feature of ACE V3 is a prerequisite for the Operator Touch GUI, the Customer GUI, or the dual video displays support. Planned availability dates April 9, 2004 (media for English) May 21, 2004 (media for Spanish) At a glance Highlights of ACE and EPS V3: The Store Integrator GUI, an integral part of the SIF and a feature of ACE V3. It delivers an enhanced Java GUI and Java/XML toolkit to develop simple, intuitive user interfaces to ACE. The ability for the IBM Data Integration Facility (DIF) to work with IBM SurePOS ACE. DIF provides out-of-the box support for transforming 4690 application data into standards-based XML. Enablement of ACE for the Application Extension Facility (AEF) in Store Integrator. This facility will allow existing functionality within ACE to be accessible through a set of APIs and Web services. A 32-bit compiler, which increases the address space, simplifies the development environment, and improves the ability for customers, Business ners, and IBM to service and support the product. Support for Windows XP as a development platform, which extends currency to the latest Windows operating system. 14-digit GTIN/RSS, which supports the new Uniform Code Council industry standards. Check image capture, which provides merchants with added loss protection for bad checks. This adds the capability to ACE to support the new 4610-TI8 printer, which has not only check image capture but also enhanced MICR read capability. 2 Description ACE and EPS V3 includes all the functions previously announced in V2 plus many new functions listed below. The benefits of these functions fall into four categories. Quickly respond to customer demand and build loyalty through a superior shopping experience Clean receipt enhancements, for more readable customer receipts, clearly indicating savings made by the customer, including: Ability for voids to result in a clean receipt, one that is not cluttered with void information. Ability to sort items on the receipt by department subtotals groups. A secondary sort by promotion code to allow the retailer to sort a clean receipt by promo code within a department or department subtotals group. Additional support for section trailers in the various sections of a clean receipt. A new clean receipt section for miscellaneous items. Improvements made to group electronic coupons with the items they discount on the cleaned receipt. Integrated WIC support as designed by the State of Texas and USDA, Food and Nutrition Services (FNS). This refers to Women, Infant and Children (WIC) standards that are being developed with the State of Texas. Support has been added to integrate the VeriFone Omni 7000 Pin Pad with Signature capture and a Smart Card reader. This design will be used as a model for other states. Ability to prompt for user data at total time so you can set up options to prompt for zip code or cart, for example, for tracking purposes. Ability to print a barcode that uniquely identifies the transaction on the customer receipt. Ability for cashiers to print a gift receipt, if a customer requests it. Entry of Loyalty Card into the order for WIC transactions. Sending of masked account s for credit and debit tenders to Catalina s host for Catalina Version 2. This allows Catalina to run promotions to reward shoppers. Take out costs by streamlining store operations Check image capture. This provides merchants with added loss protection for bad checks. It also adds the capability to ACE to support the new 4610-TI8 printer, which has not only check image capture but also enhanced MICR read capability. Ability to optionally send CVV2/CID to a host processor for keyed credit card account s which reduces merchant transaction fees. Improve productivity by enabling your people The Store Integrator GUI. This is an integral part of the framework and also a feature of ACE V3. It delivers an enhanced Java GUI and Java/XML toolkit to develop simple, intuitive user interfaces to ACE so that retailers who have invested in the SureVision GUI to extend ACE can protect those extensions as they move to this new enhanced GUI. In V3 this will replace the current ACE V2 SureVision GUI feature. It also enables store personnel to become productive with far less training. Ability of IBM Data Integration Facility (DIF) to work with IBM SurePOS ACE. DIF provides out-of-the box support for transforming 4690 application data into standards-based XML. For example, transaction data (TLOGs) can be converted from native binary format to IXRetail-standard POSLog XML documents. Transactions can trickle in real-time from the store to the host systems. Refer to Software Announcement , dated October 21, 2003, for more information. Enablement of ACE for the Application Extension Facility (AEF) in Store Integrator. This facility will allow existing functionality within ACE to be accessible through a set of APIs and Web services for use remotely or by other applications, such as self-service fuel and Web shopping. IBM Store Integrator and IBM Store Application Facility, part of the Store Integration Framework, will allow retailers to protect their IBM 4690 POS solutions and extend and enhance the capability of those solutions using Java. Refer to Software Announcement , dated January 13, 2004, for more information. 14-digit GTIN/RSS, which supports the new Uniform Code Council industry standards. Capability for IBM Self Checkout lanes to display a scrolling receipt when the option for clean receipt is enabled. Addition of background task for suspended transactions which allows transactions to be retrieved more quickly. Reason code for void. This adds the capability to prompt the cashier for a reason code as to why the void was performed. Increased of TARES, from 9 to 99. ACE Transaction Search Tool. This provides similar function to the SA Electronic Journal report tool. The reports summarize lines as well as reporting detailed cash receipt and summary journal images using the TLOG as the source. Capability for ACE to specify a flat four-decimal-place tax rate versus using a tax table. This does not include support for four decimal places for VAT tax rates. Additional batch editing in Selective Item Report. Addition of manager s initials to TLOG and Exception Log reports. Optional elimination of the B029 Message when a Quantity Required Item is sold, and the cashier did not enter a quantity. Ability to display the operator in secured mode, if a register is Signed-On and in Secured Mode. Operate a resilient secure business around the clock Support for Windows XP as a development platform, which extends currency to the latest Windows operating system. 32 bit compiler. 3 Support for the ability to start a program when the Office Carry Forward procedure is completed. Increased of manager overrides, to 99, and optionally, the ability to force a manager s override to be scanned. Ability to print the manager s override index on franking, if a check MICR is hand keyed. Ability to include the details of a voided transaction into the TLOG, so the Transaction Log Report will show details of the voided transactions. Ability to prompt cashiers to enter their password when the NO SALE/ENTER (open cash drawer) is performed between transactions. Product positioning IBM SurePOS Application Client/Server Environment for 4690 OS is a follow-on to the Supermarket Application. Customers can migrate from this environment or from V1 or V2 of ACE and EPS.
