1 JOB DESCRIPTION DRIVER TRAINER / ASSESSOR Responsible to: Senior Manager Responsible for: Trainees/volunteers and external clients BTEC Assessments (driving and non-driving) NVQ Assessments (driving and non-driving) Liaise with: Trainees, Volunteers, External Candidates, External organisations or agencies such as Awarding Bodies, Test Centres, Learning Centres, Departments of Local Authorities, Colleges, Training Providers, Employers, Employment Agencies and HCT s Internal Staff ROLE The Trainer-Assessor is a member of a dedicated team that is committed to developing and maintaining services to a very high standard. Out of hours working is sometimes required, including early morning and evening training, attendance at evening meetings, occasional conferences and promotional events. Time off in lieu of overtime worked is granted as no overtime payments are made. The responsibility for the support, training and supervision of the Trainer-Assessor shall be with the Head of Curriculum. To deliver Road Passenger Transport courses including PCV theory, CPC for Drivers, Driving Goods Vehicle (DGV), Warehousing & Storage (W&S), Road Passenger Vehicle Driving (RPVD) to unemployed clients, volunteers and the employed. S/he will deliver training and or assessments in line with the awarding body s requirements and to a very high standard. The object of the training provided should be to prepare trainees to attain the required standards and assess their competence in service delivery in accordance to DSA or NVQ or awarding body s rules. The Trainer-Assessor will attend regular progress meetings, liaise with learners, employers, project partners, etc; carry out training needs analysis in tasks associated with the programme of learning and liaise regularly with other HCT project teams.
2 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Trainer-Assessor must ensure that Trainees have valid entitlement on their licence and or valid provisional entitlement on their licence before driving a training vehicle during instruction, assessment and or training. 1. Health and Safety To comply with the statutory provision of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and any other relevant legislation or HCT policies/procedures relating to Health and Safety and good practice. 3. Administration / Resource Management To maintain good working relationships with all members of staff, volunteers trainees and colleagues from other external organisations Ensure that training and assessment resources are effectively managed so that training can proceed smoothly at all times. Ensure that training and assessments comply with DSA / awarding bodies/funding organisations standards. Ensure that training information is correct and meet with current legislation at all times. Responsible for the timely and accurate completion and maintenance of all documentation associated with training and assessments. Maintain existing administrative systems (manual and computerised) so that detailed records of HCT staff, trainees, volunteers and external test candidates are easily accessible and regularly updated. To prepare course / project report (including statistics) as required To ensure the efficient administration of the courses in conjunction with the Administrative team Liaise with HCT staff, volunteers, and external candidates to inform and update them of training/assessments dates, programme, etc. 4. Road Passenger Transport & Logistics Training / Assessment To co-ordinate and deliver training to volunteers, the employed (funded by employers or self funding) and the unemployed through funded programmes supported by external organisations. To carry out classroom based teaching / portfolio completion and practical training / assessment to a very high standard To deliver training/assessment to include NVQ RPVD, DGV, W&S, Driver CPC (road safety regulations, equality and disability, etc.) and PCV theory to candidates. To assess candidates work in line with DSA and awarding body s standards and participate in programme moderations and verification of candidates portfolios. To liaise with internal and external verifier and ensure that HCT s centre approval status is maintained To review course evaluation forms completed by trainees/volunteers and review/change delivery mechanisms where appropriate.
3 Keep up to date with the latest developments in training methods and changes in the Transport Sector. 5. Other Tasks Provide support and supervision for trainees and volunteers. Provide cover or support for members of the training team, as and when required. Provide support to PCV Instructors in the delivery of PCV on-road training. Provide support to other trainers / assessors to deliver other courses such as Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) Attend regular promotional events, staff meetings or any other meeting or training sessions that is required. Assist in the planning of new courses as required by the Head of Curriculum. Perform other duties as and when required by the demands of the position or the Head of Curriculum.
4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential Qualities 1. Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the Equal Opportunity Policy. 2. Must have held a full manual PCV licence held for at least 3 years. 3. Experience of delivering Passenger Carrying Vehicle (PCV) theory training. 4. Ability to assess learner s competence against DSA and NVQ standards. 5. Experience of assessing, supporting and training candidates including volunteers from diverse communities to progress through qualifications 6. Experience of imparting information clearly and concisely using nonpatronising language, both verbally and in writing within a training environment. 7. Experience of working independently and as part of a team promoting commitment and motivation. 8. Experience of IT word processing, database, collating and processing information. 9. Ability to support colleagues to deliver other training and related courses e.g. BTEC, MiDAS, PCV, etc. 10. Holds a teaching (e.g. C&G 7407, PTLLS) / assessor (e.g. A1) qualification or equivalent 11. Experience of delivering classroom training for at least one year 12. Demonstration of an understanding of the needs of Community Transport. Desirable Qualities 1. Experience of training for the bus or community transport industry. 2. Ability to speak a language spoken by a minority community in Hackney. 3. Experience of a supervisory role in a training environment or within the transport industry.
5 DRIVER TRAINER-ASSESSOR 6 Months Fixed Term Contract Salary: 21,000-24,000 (pro-rata for part-time post (Depending on qualifications, skills and experience) Hours of work: 35 hours per week Time of work: Usually between 08:00hrs and 18:00 hrs Place of Work: Ash Grove Depot, Mare Street, Hackney, London E8 4RH (Location of work may change depending on business needs or requirements) Probationary period: Two months from employment start date Other requirements: Attendance at out of town conferences, seminars or other late evening meetings may be required from time to time for which time in lieu will be granted
