1 Executive Producer Arena Theatre Company Position Summary Arena Theatre Company is seeking to appoint a highly-skilled and strategic arts leader with management and producing experience, in the role of Executive Producer. Over the past 46 years Arena has gained national and international acclaim for creating inspiring live performances that have a genuine engagement with young audiences. Arena seeks an established arts manager with the strategic knowledge and creativity to realise the company s new vision for 2014 and beyond. As Executive Producer you will produce Arena s artistic program, develop and implement its strategic plan, and oversee the company s operations. Working with the Artistic Director as co-ceo, you will lead a small dedicated team of staff, freelance creatives and contractors to enhance the Company s national and international reputation for excellence. In addition to producing the annual program, you will be responsible for human resources, marketing, sponsorship, financial management, business and production planning, IT and the management of company operations. You will maintain and strengthen relationships with key performing arts organisations, festivals, sponsors, donors and local, State and Federal government agencies. About Arena Theatre Company Arena creates live performances for audiences aged 5 to 25 years. Over the Company s 46- year history it has sustained an international reputation for excellence as a theatre maker driven by the complex range of experiences encountered by young people in today s world. Arena s longevity is a testament to our ongoing investigation of the central question, What is the role of performance for young people in today s world?" Over the past five decades the responses to this question have ranged from our modest beginnings as an amateur drama group to our current incarnation as a leader in contemporary theatre practice.

2 Each year, Arena presents a range of new work including world premieres, tours of works in repertoire, creative development projects, and other models such as residencies and works-in-progress. Arena is funded triennially, as a Key Organisation, by the Australia Council for the Arts, Arts Victoria, and the City of Melbourne. The Company raises additional project funding from a range of government sources, philanthropic foundations, commissioning and co-producing partners, and private donors. Arena's office and rehearsal space is based in North Melbourne, with the Company's work presented at a range of venues locally, nationally and internationally. Arena has a small core staff team of four personnel who work with a range of contract artists, performers and production personnel to realise work of the highest standard. Arena is a public company limited by guarantee, and is governed by a Board of eleven Directors. The Artistic Director and General Manager are the Company s Co- Executive Officers. The Co-Executive Officers report to the Arena Theatre Company Board of Directors. The General Manager and Artistic Director have voting rights on the Board. 3 POSITION DESCRIPTION Title: Position summary: Position type: Executive Producer (Co-CEO) As Executive Producer you will produce Arena s artistic program, develop and implement its strategic plan, and oversee the company s operations. Working with the Artistic Director as co-ceo, you will lead a small dedicated team of staff, freelance creatives and contractors to enhance the Company s national and international reputation for excellence. 4 Specific Duties: Developing, implement and review the company s Strategic Plan, in collaboration with the Artistic Director and Board. Producing the Company s annual program of activities including actively developing new markets and co-ordinating the company s touring commitments. Strengthening partnerships with venues, festivals and other theatre companies - with a view to securing co-commissions, co-productions and tours of Arena productions. Providing leadership to and management of staff Successful organisation of business strategies and systems. Providing efficient financial administration of the Company, specifically the maintenance, development and overseeing of financial systems; the monitoring of expenditure; preparation and analysis of data for reports; preparation and revision of budgets; preparation for annual audit. Driving income diversification for the company including strategies around private giving, corporate sponsorship and business development. Overseeing implementation of high-level marketing and communications strategies that assist in achieving our business plan goals. Working in partnership with the Artistic Director for the preparation of submissions and reports required by funding agencies and key stakeholders. Liaising with funding bodies, other companies, partners, presenters and sponsors, artists, the media and others as required. Attending relevant industry events (opening nights, forums and conferences, workshops, etc). Contributing to Company activities and the development of initiatives that maximise audience potential, further the public profile and image of the Company. Responsibility for contract preparation and administration. Reports for the Board of Directors as required.

5 KEY SELECTION CRITERIA The Executive Producer must demonstrate: 1. Demonstrated experience in similar roles in the performing arts sector 2. Demonstrated experience in producing successful, innovative artistic works for theatre and contemporary performing arts 3. Strong business development skills, including marketing, and stakeholder management and communications. 4. Established professional network among artists, companies, funding bodies and relevant key stakeholders 5. Demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in a team environment 6. Understanding of the governance requirements of a co-chief Executive Officer role, including demonstrated budget and project management skills 7. Relevant tertiary qualifications preferred
