We are all in this tgether and becming part f 100 Mile Club means yu are part f a family f schls with the same gal: t imprve the health and well-being f children at schl thrugh daily physical activity in a nncmpetitive, supprtive, and inclusive envirnment. This quick little checklist cvers key elements t cnsider when launching the prgram at yur schl. This checklist is meant t be a guide nly, s the timeframes may vary and nt all items may be applicable t yur schl r grup.

2 Prir t Anticipated Start Date: This culd be ne mnth t ne week befre yu begin. Raise Awareness & Get Apprvals As yur schl s 100 Mile Club Cach, take sme time t raise awareness in yur schl and cmmunity. Speak yur lve. It will truly shine thrugh Cnsider the fllwing: Meet with the District Wellness Crdinatr, Principal, PTA/PTO Bard, classrm teachers, PE teachers, and anyne wh may be interested t present the prgram, answer questins, explain the incentives and gals, and share hw physical activity can truly benefit ur kidds. Need a mre frmal presentatin? The 100 Mile Club PwerPint and vides can assist yu with addressing all the key pints and benefits f the prgram in a mre frmal, structured presentatin style. Ready t g? It s as easy as Step 1: Register yur schl if yu haven t already. Registering yur schl = cnnecting with us. Register at Step 2: Lg in t ur Caches Crner. Our website has a special & exclusive Caches Crner just fr yu! This is where yu will meet ther caches, share ideas, and dwnlad all the stuff yu need. 3 Back at Yur Schl Site With schl r faculty apprval, determine a start date fr the prgram and develp a time line f key dates fr the steps belw. Share the Gd News!! If apprpriate, speak at a cmmunity/schl night, back t schl night, r PTO/PTA meeting t share that 100 Mile Club is cming!. Send cmmunicatin t the schl cmmunity annuncing the prgram and explaining the benefits f participatin. This can be dne via , schl website, facebk, parent packets, mailings, newsletters, etc. Schedule a kickff assembly at yur schl. This can be a stand-alne assembly r part f an already scheduled back t schl assembly. We have pwer pints, vides, and resurces in ur Caches Crner just fr this! Build excitement and prmte vlunteer &/r teacher training sessins nce the date/lcatins are scheduled. If yur schl allws, set up a Facebk Page. Call it the <insert yur schl name here> 100 Mile Club! Start a simple webpage n yur schl r PTA/O site. OPTIONAL: Order Challenge Accepted ID Cards Make a Plan, Build Yur Team, & Schedule Trainings Decide if yur schl wants/needs t train all schl staff (recmmended) r just a few select teachers and vlunteers. These trainings can be dne at the beginning f and thrughut the schl year as yu generate mre interest. Remember, build a team arund the 100 Mile Club Missin and Visin, and yu will create amazing energy! If yu decide t train all staff, ask yur Principal t designate a prfessinal develpment perid. Making the entire schl staff aware f the prgram is a key t increased success. Shw the 100 Mile Club vide r vides. Grab a PwerPint and mdify fr yur grup. If yu decide t train selected vlunteers r teachers, designate training times t explain yur chsen mile-lgging system. Keep it simple and fun!

4 One Week Befre/Week f 100 Mile Club Launch D yur Kickff Assembly: This is an excellent way t get kids really excited abut 100 Mile Club! Ask students t create psters fr the 100 Mile Club in art class t put up arund schl and build anticipatin amng students. Play lud, fun, energizing music! Engage kids by having students cme up and help. Shw the vide r vides! Use the Student Kickff Pwerpint r simply shw the incentives either thrugh a slideshw r LIVE! Cmplete yur first lap/mile tgether and celebrate it! Call it FIRSTmile Run/walk as a grade level r as a schl. Then, afterward, discuss what s happening with their bdies (heart beating, sweating, endrphins, ). OPTIONAL: Pass ut Challenge Accepted ID Cards after FIRSTmile is cmpleted. Send hme Enrllment Frms and/r ur custmizable Parent/Welcme Letter. Pass ut Challenge Accepted ID Cards as kids sign up! 100 Mile Club Launch Day Make a big deal ut f yur first 100 Mile Club sessin. Cunt dwn n mrning annuncements, invite families, get everyne all jazzed up! Play music! Take pictures! Have the Incentive Package ut fr all t see. Get the students excited that mrning and shw the 100 Mile Club vide f yur chice. Maybe during mrning annuncements embed n the schl website Practice mile tracking! It may take a few sessins t get it dwn. Once yu d, it s as smth as silk. Find mile tracking ideas in Caches Crner r in this Guide. Dn t wrry if yu make mistakes. Remember, yu can always tweak yur schedule, tracking methd, r design. Nbdy is perfect.

5 Thrughut the Year Ordering Incentives (fr ur Gld Medal and Hybrid Schls) As a Gld Medal Schl, yu will want t have thse 25 Mile Club tees ready t award when yur first participant hits their 25th mile. If yu are rdering Incentive Packages thrugh ur Gld Medal Prgram, yu can d it in a few ways: At Schl Order a smattering f sizes. We call this a mini-inventry. Maybe get 3-5 f each f the sizes ffered in ur Incentive Package. This way, yu can size kids, and shw them hw cl the tees and incentives are! Keep them in a special place and then rder as yu need t replenish yur stck. Once yur first participant hits abut mile r s, rder sme Incentive Packages. Having sme n hand saves yu the frantic rdering and disappinted kids when they have t wait fr their hard-earned incentives. Schedule and start thinking abut Medal/Recgnitin Ceremnies. It s never t early. Set yur cutff date t earn miles. This is typically 2 weeks prir t yur medal ceremny. Share best practices with ther schl staff. Yu may see staff hp nbard mid- year. Welcme them as they becme ready. Encurage ALL staff t participate. Teachers can d miles, t! We all need t mve during the day s encurage everyne at schl t jin the 100 Mile Club Team! Experiment with 100 Mile Club at different times during the day t see what is mst effective. (e.g., befre schl, as part f mrning activities, befre the mst fcused cursewrk, befre/after lunch, as an afternn pick-meup, after schl ). Make sure yur kids are marking their shirts r getting them marked! Visit ur Caches Crner fr ideas. Set ne day each week t wear 100 Mile Club tees. It s spectacularly unifying. Wednesdays seem t be a ppular day. Celebrate milestnes! Mrning annuncements, fun signs, whatever. Have a blast with this! (Optinal) Testing Weeks Fr ALL. Increase 100 Mile Club time during standardized testing weeks t help students manage stress and imprve cncentratin. Seriusly, even a lap r tw will refcus and reenergize the mst lethargic f test-takers. Fr students with special needs. Cmmunicate with yur site specialists and incrprate apprpriate mdificatins/accmmdatins t yur students educatinal plan (IEP, etc.) wh may need t take breaks thrughut standardized testing sessins. Call the lcal newspaper. Write a blg r p-ed piece fr yur lcal paper. Present at yur schl bard r city cuncil meeting. Visit yur lcal service clubs. They are ALWAYS lking fr presenters and their fcus is mre ften than nt, KIDS! A simple presentatin can inspire supprt and dnatins. Examples f service clubs are: Kiwanis, Rtary, Lins Club, Chamber f Cmmerce On the web Call r cntact yur lcal TV statin. Engage with thers arund the cuntry implementing 100 Mile Club. Ask questins, answer questins, cntinue t learn, stay cnnected, and gather new ideas n hw t implement the prgram in new, creative, and exciting ways. Gather new ideas, and SHARE yur ideas! Whether yu share r just read, it s anther great way t see what s happening. Final Weeks f Schl Prepare Final Certificates. Gld Medal schls, yu will receive Certificates with yur medals. Yu will receive as many certificates as yu rdered Incentive Packages. If yu need mre than that, yu can rder as needed. Certificate Path & Hybrid Schls: Dwnlad & print OR rder final certificates. Obtain signatures f caches & teachers n the certificates. Gld Medal Schls: After yur cut-ff date, rder yur medals! Remember, nly participants wh crss 100 miles r mre receive a gld medal. Everyne gets a certificate. Give us time t get medals t yu calculate shipping time and plan accrdingly. Plan & execute yur Medal/Recgnitin Ceremny. Invite dignitaries (schl bard, cmmunity leaders, spnsrs & partners), make a fun musical slideshw, invite parents have fun! This is the big day! Reward a special kid r tw (r mre) that exemplified the SPIRIT f 100 Mile Club. We have sme nice little gifts in ur nline SHOP. Thank/recgnize vlunteers at the ceremny, t. Remind kids and families that it is the jurney that matters. Celebrate the
