At the University f Adelaide Inductin is made up f the fllwing cmpnents, each f which serves a specific purpse: On-barding: gathering required infrmatin frm the new staff member and ensuring everything is ready fr them t cmmence wrk University Inductin: sharing knwledge and infrmatin relevant t wrking at the University, and at times tailred t the new staff member s rle Wrk Area Inductin: intrducing detailed and wrk area specific infrmatin that will supprt the new staff member achieve success in their rle. The University f Adelaide Inductin Framewrk prvides an verview f hw the cmpnents f Inductin intersect and wh is respnsible fr the tasks within each cmpnent. Inductin at the University begins pre-cmmencement, and cntinues fr up t three mnths. T ensure infrmatin is prvided at the mst apprpriate time in a new staff member s emplyment the Inductin pathways have been designed in 5 phases. Each phase lists a number f tasks t be cmpleted, and has a fcus area that creates an incremental apprach t inducting a new staff member. Pre Cmmencement: n barding; ensures relevant technical and administrative preparatin has ccurred First Day: cnnecting; critical fr welcming new staff members and prviding infrmatin that supprts psitive engagement frm the utset First Week: familiarising; activities undertaken in the first week are vital t establishing a sund understanding f rles, respnsibilities and lcal wrk area practices First Mnth: engaging; getting t knw the team and understanding pririties in the brader cntext f their new rle. Third Mnth: achieving; practively managing wrk activities t achieve targets and planning fr the next three mnths. 1

In additin t the new staff member, the als has key respnsibilities t ensure the inductin prcess perates effectively. Fr sme tasks, the may engage the assistance f anther lcal team member, referred t in the Inductin Framewrk as an Inductin Crdinatr. The Inductin Crdinatr supprts and arranges the delivery f critical inductin tasks as determined by the, t help ensure a smth and welcming prcess fr new staff members. Sme wrk areas will nt have a designated Inductin Crdinatr and if this is the case, the Line Manager will mst likely fulfil that rle. Further details abut the key rles and respnsibilities in the inductin prcess are utlined in the Inductin Rles & Respnsibilities table. 3 University f Adelaide Inductin Framewrk Inductin Rles and Respnsibilities Central HR Team Central HR prvide the verarching apprach t Inductin at the University and supprt with training, mnitring and supprt. Faculty/Divisin r Schl/Branch The Faculty has respnsibility fr supprting hiring managers and any tailring f the inductin. Hiring Manager / has verall accuntability fr their new starter s inductin experience. Develp and maintain Inductin Framewrk, Inductin Prcedure and University-level infrmatin fr new staff member including inductin webpage and face-t-face/nline inductin curses Ensure new staff experience a sense f welcme frm University level (thrugh their appintment letter, general feel f webpage and nline/face t face curses) Develp and maintain mechanism fr prmpting and tracking Inductin (i.e. checklist, eventually nline and visible t each rle in the prcess) Prvide guidance, supprt and training fr Faculty HR Hubs, s and thers in the prcess Ensure Inductin Curses are easily accessible, cnsistent and allws fr cmpliance t be mnitred Mnitr cmpliance fr inductin curses and prvide reprt t HR hubs (cmpliance mnitring t shift t faculty level in line with nline curses upgrade) Prmpt Hiring Manager befre new starter cmmences and ffer supprt t ensure Manager is clear n their respnsibilities Cnsider any faculty-specific tailring that shuld be made t checklists/new starter agenda Add new starter t any relevant cntact lists, webpages r distributin lists Develp and make available rganisatinal structures fr the Faculty and Schl/Branch (i.e. n intranet) Cnsider meeting with new starter during first week, especially thse invlved in selectin panel Flag any issues r imprvements with Central HR Team as they arise If pssible, identify an Inductin Crdinatr, delegate apprpriate tasks and prvide directin Persnal welcme t team/branch team/branch prir t cmmencement, arrange welcme cffee r meeting with team Prvide rle specific infrmatin and expectatins Identify stakehlders fr new starter t meet Identify a buddy (ptinal) First and third mnth check-in meetings t ensure staff member is n track in their Inductin and has the pprtunity t ask questins. Inductin Crdinatr** The inductin crdinatr is identified by the Line Manager and may have sme administrative and ther tasks delegated t them. In sme cases it may nt be pssible t identify an Inductin Crdinatr, if this is the case, the Line Manager will be respnsible fr these tasks. T actively participate in the Inductin and seek assistance alng the way. These tasks may be cmpleted by the Hiring/, r delegated t a lcal Inductin Crdinatr as determined by the Manager. If delegated by Manager: First day/week agenda - scheduling and ppulating Pack f dcuments manager t identify dcuments fr inclusin ie. Planning dcs, rg charts, cntact lists, prject plans Administrative set-up wrk statin set-up, system access, cmputer rdering Set-up stakehlder meetings as identified by Manager Taking staff t get staff card Discuss team nrms start times, hw the team wrks Administrative rientatin printer, S drive flder, e-signature etc. Cnduct flr/branch/schl intrductins and tur Cnduct lcal HSW inductin Wrk thrugh the Inductin webpage, making any ntes t ask f Line Manager Actively participate in line manager / stakehlder meetings and seek clarificatin n University prcesses, rle etc. Cmplete inductin curses as per the recmmended timeframes Buddy (Optinal) This is an infrmal cnnectin which prvides the new starter with a cntact utside f their team wh can supprt them in beginning their new rle. The pathways are tailred t the individual needs f each type f staff engagement: New Staff Existing Staff Transfer New Casual Staff New Executive/Senir Leaders Inductin Checklists Like the Inductin Pathway Overviews, there is an Inductin Checklist fr each new starter type. The Checklists are designed fr s and Inductin Crdinatrs t detail the Inductin tasks and activities recmmended fr an effective inductin fr new starters. The individual needs f each type f staff engagement have been taken int cnsideratin hwever can be tailred fr any wrk area specific tasks r activities. Inductin Agenda The Inductin Agenda is available as a template n the Inductin Website. The Inductin Crdinatr is usually respnsible fr scheduling meetings and ther activities and subsequently ppulating and persnalising the Inductin Agenda and prviding t the new starter upn cmmencement. There will be tasks that the new starter needs t take respnsibility fr rganising r cmpleting. These activities are identifiable in the Respnsible clumn f the Agenda. This dcument will be accessible by the new starter hwever will include a template watermark and will refer t the persnalised versin t be prvided by their Inductin Crdinatr. 5
