Preface The nomenclature used by alloy designation is similar to that used by the International Organization for Standardization. As an alternative to this system a series of SA alloy code number is also detailed and it is suggested that these code numbers would be more convenient for daily use than the alloy designations. Information on casting characteristics, general properties, typical mechanical properties, and design guidance is given in appendices to most of the castings specifications. The relationship between the alloys in this specification and in the current British standard (BS EN 1982) is shown in the following table: Amdt 3

5 Copper alloy ingots and castings 1 Scope 1.1 This specification covers 30 copper alloys in the form of ingots or castings. NOTE a) The standards referred to in the specification are listed in appendix A. b) Requirements that must be specified by the purchaser and those that must be agreed upon are listed in appendix B. c) The colours used in the colour coding of ingots are given in appendix C. 2 Definitions 2.1 For the purposes of this specification the following definitions shall apply: acceptable acceptable to the authority administering this standard, or to the parties concluding the purchase contract, as relevant Amdt 3 cast batch a) ingots or castings that are the product of one molten charge; or b) ingots or castings that are the product of a number of molten charges that have been combined and mixed before pouring; or c) ingots or castings of combined mass not exceeding two-thirds of the nominal total mass of the melt and that are produced in succession from a continuously or semi-continuously replenished melt defective an ingot or a casting (as relevant) that fails in one or more respects to comply with the appropriate requirements of the specification lot all ingots or castings of the same nominal composition and of the same type, and bearing (when relevant) the same cast (batch) identification, made by one producer, and submitted at any one time for inspection and testing 3
