1 Post Title Campaigns Coordinator Salary: 20,545 Full/Part Time Contract Term: Full Time Permanent Date of Writing: June 2017 Accountable to: Accountable for: Hours: Location: Eligibility: Community Development Manager No direct reports 35 hrs per week. (usually Mon-Fri within core hours, but you will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends to engage with and support campaign activity) Usually located at the main Students Union Building, but will be required to work at other sites linked to the University of Manchester occasionally. Open to applicants with relevant skills and experience. Typical working day The role involves regular contact with student campaigners and elected officers and you will arrange and attend regular meetings with these groups. You will also attend regular team and project meetings. A significant proportion of time will also be spent on desk-based administration including managing the campaigns budget and the preparation and production of relevant event related administration. There will be some physical aspects to the role - in the operational management of student led and student focused events. Purpose of the Role This post will work closely with student groups and elected officers to support a diverse range of change making campaigning activity at the Students Union and to ensure a dynamic and thriving liberation campaign at Manchester.

2 The postholder will support student groups to plan and deliver a range of events and campaigning activities, delivering a variety of training sessions to support the development of student campaigners. The postholder will also manage the campaigns budget, processing funding requests and ensuring the budget is used to support a wide range of campaigning activity. Principal duties Campaigning Design, develop and deliver training on campaign planning, tactics and implementation for student campaigners and the Exec Team Facilitate, share and implement good and innovative practice in the area of campaigning Coach campaigning groups in their planning to ensure that campaigns have clear goals and are impactful and engaging Support campaigners with planning and evaluation including goal setting and financial management Administer the Campaigns bid process and keep accurate records Pro-actively reach out to campaigning groups to offer support and advice about achieving campaign goals To work with the Student Voice Assistant and other relevant Students Union staff to support Exec Team and wider Students Union Campaign Identify, manage and promote opportunities to engage campaigning groups in Students Union core activities including standing for elected offices, and contributing to current academic representation systems where appropriate Democracy and engagement Be a point of contact for a range of candidates during elections, ensuring that they are well supported. Support campaigning groups to engaging with democratic decision-making structures, submitting policies to Senate etc. Partnership Working To work closely with the Diversity and Liberation Coordinator to deliver internal and external facing campaigns relating to equality and diversity. To form a key part of the wider Students' Union team, championing campaigning initiatives for all our student members in an effort to engage a diverse range of student groups in campaigning activity.

4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Campaigns Coordinator CRITERIA QUALIFICATIONS Good general education, typically to the Higher/A level equivalent Requiremen t Applicatio n University/College Degree Desirable EXPERIENCE Personal experience of campaigning to create change Demonstrable experience of working effectively on own initiative Experience of successful project/ campaign planning and implementation and evaluation Experience of motivating volunteers and activists Experience of using social media as a promotional Desirable and/or campaigning tool Experience of working in a democratically led Desirable organisation Experience of working to support liberation campaigns Desirable and activity. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Working knowledge of campaigning approaches, tactics and impact measurement, including uses of social media and viral video marketing.
