1 JOB DESCRIPTION Volunteers Supporting Families Service Fixed Term Contract Project Manager Greenwich Volunteering Matters Job reference No: VO5 Volunteering Matters is the UK s leading national volunteering and training charity We make a positive impact on the lives of thousands of people every year, and support some of the most vulnerable people in society - such as children at risk of abuse or neglect; isolated older people; and teenagers looking to get on to the jobs ladder Our strategic aims are: To help people achieve their potential by being the provider of choice for volunteering and learning To work with individuals and communities in responsive and innovative ways to achieve positive impact To use Volunteering Matters expertise and networks to influence public policy To ensure that Volunteering Matters is sufficiently resourced to build stronger communities for another 50 years CSV Volunteers Supporting Families background Volunteering Matters Volunteers in Child Protection Project was initially set up in response to the death of Victoria Climbie and the Lord Laming enquiry that followed The project offers a pioneering approach, recruiting volunteers from the local community to provide support to families whose children are at risk or have a safeguarding plan There are currently eight projects, in Lewisham, Southend-on- Sea, Coventry, Cambridgeshire, Lambeth Croydon and South Tyneside with others being developed across the UK In November 2014 Volunteers in Child Protection won the Children and Young People Now Magazine Award in the Safeguarding category, shortlisted by professionals in the field and voted the winner by a group of young people PURPOSE OF THE POST The post holder will be responsible for developing and managing this well established project in Greenwich The role will include managing the Volunteers Supporting Families Project Co-ordinator The project will support vulnerable families with both Project Manager and Project Coordinator being responsible for recruiting, screening, training, matching and managing 25 volunteer/family relationships each These volunteers will provide basic parenting help to families who have one or more

2 children on a Child Protection Plan, who are at risk of harm through neglect or have additional needs The project will be delivered in close collaboration with the Royal Borough of Greenwich s Children and Families Services and the post holder will need to develop a good working relationship with the Socail Care Team, Social Workers and other key members of the Council DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Project Management 1 To effectively deliver the service to ensure the project meets its agreed targets, reporting format and schedule 2 Maintain Volunteering Matters quality standards and guidelines for work with all customers 3 To liaise with Greenwich Children and Families Services staff and key personnel to ensure the project develops smoothly and effectively with clear referral criteria 4 Maintain effective monitoring and evaluation records to capture impact and outcomes and ensure contractual compliance 5 To ensure that sufficient appropriate referrals are generated by the local authority Staff Management 1 To effectively manage the Volunteers Supporting Families Project Coordinator in the delivery of the project, and ensure that targets and reporting commitments are met 2 To provide regular supervision and support as well as annual reviews of his/her work 3 To ensure that the Volunteers Supporting Families Co-ordinator post holder provides support for a minimum of 25 appropriate volunteers/matches

3 Volunteer Management 1 To ensure that a pool of suitable volunteers is recruited, appropriately trained and supported in their role 2 To implement appropriate screening procedures and risk assessment processes which meet both Volunteering Matters and RB Greenwich Children and Families Services criteria 3 To ensure regular communication between project staff and volunteers is maintained 4 To maintain procedures for matching families with the volunteers 5 To process volunteer expenses in a timely manner Monitoring and Evaluation 1 To maintain good records on all aspects of the project, including submitting data onto a secure database 2 To prepare regular reports which will include monthly updates, quarterly progress reports and end of year reports to volunteering Matters and RB Greenwich Children and Families Services To present information and reports at regular contract reviews providing ad hoc additional information as required 3 To feed into the overall review and development of the brand The job description gives an outline of key duties and is not intended to be an exhaustive list The post holder may be asked from time to time to take on other responsibilities as reasonably requested by her/his manager Person Specification Your covering letter should demonstrate how you fulfil these requirements

4 In deciding who to shortlist and appoint to this post, we will be looking for evidence of the following skills, knowledge, experience and personal qualities: Essential 1 A track record of successful project management including evidence of project management skills and the ability to deliver targets and deadlines 2 Maintain effective monitoring and evaluation processes to capture impact and outcomes 3 Proven ability to work on your own initiative, managing time and tasks effectively 4 Strong interpersonal skills including an ability to enthuse and convince others 5 Evidence of effective negotiating skills with internal and external customers at a range of levels 6 Experience of working with vulnerable children and / or families 7 Strong keyboard skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook 8 Direct experience of volunteer recruitment, training and supervision 9 Direct experience of planning and delivering training 10 Strong personal organisational skills 11 Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with internal and external customers including drafting reports and correspondence 12 A demonstrable commitment to volunteering and an understanding of its potential as a force for change 13 Familiarity with child protection procedures 14 An understanding of the issues affecting families, particularly those on the edges of society 15 Knowledge of the local area and services/resources available for families and volunteers Desirable 1 Familiarity with the Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation Appointment to this position is subject to an enhanced disclosure check Having a conviction will not necessarily cause a bar to employment
