3 Purpose Cancer Council Tasmania s mission is to minimise the incidence and impact of cancer on all Tasmanians. The Cancer Support Services staff provide a range of confidential, professional support and information services at no cost to Tasmanians impacted by cancer. Services and programs include individual, group based and practical support. Staff work as part of a state-wide team with Support Centres in Sandy Bay Launceston and Ulverstone. The Senior Support Officer role is to implement psychosocial support services and program delivery within the Hobart Cancer Support Centre in line with Cancer Council Tasmania (CCT) mission and strategic objectives. To support Tasmanians who have been impacted by cancer.

4 About the role Position title: Department: Operations Officer Support Centre Corporate Services Award: SCHADS Level 4 Status: Hours of Work: Location: Reports to: Permanent 45.6 per fortnight (0.6 FTE) Sandy Bay Director Corporate Services The primary responsibilities will be to: Support Centre Activities: Provide assistance to the Support team as they plan and implement the activities within the Cancer Support Centre. Help ensure the effective day-to-day operations of the Centre, including overseeing general housekeeping, maintenance and Support Services program administration. Work with Centre volunteers on a daily basis to support them in their role and duties. Assist Cancer Support staff with recruitment, training, daily supervision and rostering of Centre volunteers. Co-ordinate the organisation of meetings and social functions in collaboration with those CCT staff in attendance. Co-ordinate the CancerSupport Centre advertising materials eg., monthly newsletter, internal newsletter What s On. Retail Activities: In conjunction with Finance, oversee the running of retail in the Centre, including serving customers if Centre volunteers are not available, stock taking and setting up the daily till. Overseeing the ordering, receipt and despatch of stock including responsibility for accepting deliveries and checking against orders.

5 Handling all incoming and store room goods in accordance with good manual handling guidelines. Liaising with relevant staff and suppliers for goods not received or incorrectly delivered. Organising despatch of freight. In conjunction with Support Staff, assist with planning and organising work for Centre volunteers to ensure that the Hobart retail outlet is staffed at all times. Coordinate and record regular stocktake activities to ensure adequate stock control of all CCT property associated with retail activities. Position Requirements: Essential: High level customer service skills. High level administrative skills sufficient to perform at this level, with relevant experience and expertise attained through previous appointments, enabling the incumbent to undertake the range of activities required. Demonstrated experience and working knowledge in the use of Desirable: Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge and experience working in a retail setting. Current Drivers License. Current Working with Vulnerable People Check. Pre - Employment: Cancer Council Tasmania will conduct a Police Check prior to the successful applicant s appointment to this role.

6 Selection criteria Selection Criteria: To apply for this role you will need to demonstrate your ability to meet the selection criteria. The selection criteria outline the skills, experiences and behaviours that are necessary to successfully carry out the role. 1. A high standard of administrative skills, with a demonstrated capacity to multi-task and proactively identify and meet expectations in a timely manner. 2. Experience in the coordination of personnel and visitors in a busy environment. 3. Well developed interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service focus, including the ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers and clients at all levels. 4. Demonstrated understanding of the support and information needs of people affected by cancer, their carers and their families. 5. Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications. 6. Knowledge and experience working in a retail setting. 7. A positive approach to the workplace and demonstrated ability to use initiative, work unsupervised and to work within a team. 8. Accept and endorse the values of CCT. Ability to demonstrate the values of CCT through their own behavior, demonstrating a commitment of our values and make a positive contribution to positive team and workplace practices.

7 How to apply for the position Cancer Council Tasmania uses a merit selection process which means it selects preferred candidates for positions based on their demonstration of the skills, abilities and attributes to meet the requirements of the position. This is demonstrated through application, interview and referee checks. Candidates are short-listed from the original pool of applicants.
