This role will hopefully have an impact on the experience that new recruits in this locality have with the British Red Cross Context The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies. We enable vulnerable people in the UK and abroad to prepare for and withstand emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, we help them to recover and move on with their lives. Within the UK, the British Red Cross operates through about 3,000 staff and over 30,000 volunteers. Geographically, the UK is organised into 20 areas, which are grouped into three regions. Overall purpose of the role This volunteer support co-ordinator role ensures that support is delivered in accordance with both the needs of the locality, area and corporate requirements. The main aim of this role is to support services in the locality meet their volunteer recruitment needs and to ensure that volunteers joining the British Red Cross Society have a good experience. 2 Main responsibilities and duties Generic to job type: 1. To assist with emergency response and recovery in and out of hours if the need arises and be on the on-call duty rota as required 2. Undertake any reasonable duties as delegated by the line manager including assisting with fundraising when required 3. Undertake any training and development required for the role 4. Uphold the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and work within the Society s equal opportunities policy. Specific to job specialism, function or department: > Promoting volunteering in the locality by designing and distributing volunteering promotional materials, attending externally organised volunteer promotional events, using social media, writing press releases etc. > Establishing relationships with external partners in the locality that can help us in promoting volunteering, such as volunteer centres, local universities and colleges etc. > Working closely with the engagement and diversity manager in Wales to ensure that we have a volunteer workforce in the locality that is reflective of the area. > Assisting staff in the locality to collaborate with volunteer recruitment; this will be done by holding regular volunteering meetings with all services and fundraising. > Co-ordinating and facilitating regular planned selection events in the locality > Working closely with the South Wales L&D co-ordinator to ensure that training is provided in a timely manner following the selection events in the locality so we can get newly recruited volunteers operational as soon as possible > To work with services that previously have been predominately staff led to identify ways in which they can integrate volunteers into their services > Helping ensure that newly recruited volunteers in the locality have a good volunteer recruitment journey with us. This will involve evaluating volunteers experiences and putting into place any identified solutions to enhance their experience. > Recruiting and managing a small team of volunteers to assist with volunteering promotions, selection events, etc. > To be the champion of volunteer management in the locality; finding ways to promote good practice > To promote the reward and recognition of volunteers in the locality by making staff aware of ways in ways they can recognise their volunteers, for example, through the national awards system. 3 > To work with the locality and the volunteer council to co-ordinate the annual celebration event > To assist the volunteering team in Wales with key tasks such as responding to potential volunteering enquiries and processing applications and any other duties as required. > To travel to meetings across Wales as required. As the majority of the volunteering team is based in Abergele, there may be a frequent need to travel to North Wales and stay overnight as required. Volunteer Support Co-ordinator 3
