We provide emotional and therapeutic services in over 280 primary and secondary schools in England, Scotland and Wales, reaching a school population of 100,000 children - building children's resilience early in life through counselling, creative work and play. We also provide training on mental health and wellbeing for teachers and other professionals who work with children and young people, so we can help to build mentally healthy schools and communities where all children can thrive and grow up with prospects not problems. We ask staff to share our core values of perseverance, integrity, compassion and creativity and have the counselling skills and patience to support some of the UK s most vulnerable children and families. It s sensitive, demanding work and hugely rewarding and fulfilling as you will be helping give children brighter futures. Overall Purpose Our Counsellors on Placement (Volunteers) are central to the successful delivery of counselling and therapeutic services in our partner schools. We currently have over 1,100 Counsellors on Placement who volunteer and commit their time to supporting Place2Be and enable us to achieve our mission of improving the mental wellbeing of children in schools The post holder is responsible for ensuring the delivery of a first class experience for Counsellors on Placement. The Head of Attraction and Engagement will lead on the implementation of our Counsellor on Placement Attraction and Engagement Strategy to ensure best practices for placement attraction, recruitment, and retention. 2 Accountabilities and scope of the role The post holder will report to the Director of HR and Volunteers and will work closely with the Volunteer Recruitment team (responsible for recruiting Counsellors Placements) and operational management to successfully engage and support our volunteers to help deliver our school partnership services. The post holder will ensure that Place2Be attracts and retains sufficient numbers of highly skilled and motivated volunteers who are committed to and embody Place2Be s ethos and values. Key Stakeholders Internal Counsellor on Placement Recruitment Team, HR, Operations (Heads of Service, Service, Cluster and School Project Managers, Learning and Development Team, Marketing, Digital and Communications Team, Fundraising Team. External Counsellors on Placement (Volunteers), Alumni, Colleges, Universities and other placement providers. Main duties and responsibilities 1. Strategy Implementation and Project Management To implement the newly developed Counsellor on Placement Attraction and Engagement Strategy. The strategy has been designed to attract, retain, motivate and develop those who volunteer for our placements. The key priorities areas over the next 12 months are listed below. Attraction and Recruitment 2. Strengthen and expand Place2Be s partnerships with colleges and placement providers 2.1 Work closely with the Volunteer Recruitment team, to ensure a joined-up approach to the attraction and engagement of Counsellors on Placement. 2.2 In conjunction with the Heads of Service, Service Managers and Cluster Manager, introduce tools to better target and work with universities and colleges who currently supply/could supply trainee counsellors for volunteer placements in our partner schools. 2.3 Ensure that the newly created College Engagement Toolkit is being implemented across all Clusters and review the effectiveness of the Toolkit. 2.4 Work closely with Volunteer Recruitment Team to ensure that each Cluster is being provided with comprehensive and consistence recruitment data analysis that informs strategic decision on attraction and engagement activities. This includes rolling out the newly created Cluster Profiles. 2.5 Introduce a Back to College programme that will give current and previous Counsellors the tools to confidently talk about our placements at their college. 2.6 Monitor any changes by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy ruling on child hours to ensure that this has no negative affect on our college recruitment. Expanding the pool of Counsellors of Placement Diversity and Inclusion Place2Be are making a concerted effort to increase the number of male and Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Counsellors and paid staff to represents the diverse makeup of the geographical areas in which we operate to best serve the needs of our clients. 3.1 Work closely with the Head of Marketing and Customer Engagement (Learning and Development) to develop strategic Training to Counsellor on Placement partnerships with organisations that have a high proportion of males and BAME members. 3.2 Working closely with the Senior HR Advisor and Head of Marketing and Customer Engagement to organise targeted Taster Days. 3.3 Reviewing the questionnaires from Taster Days to ascertain the best approach to attracting male and BAME counsellors. 3.4 Active member of the Diversity and Inclusion Steering Group chaired by the Senior HR Advisor. 3.5 To pioneer, champion and role model equality and inclusiveness. Increasing our Reach 3.6 Working with the Head of Corporate Partnerships (Fundraising) and Head of Marketing and Customer Engagement to develop Training to Counsellor on Placement partnerships with external organisations. Alumni 3.7 Work with the Team Leader (Volunteers), and Head of Communications to implement recommendations from the Alumni Review Report and to develop creative ideas and solutions, to re-engage past volunteers and expand the Place2Be Alumni community. 4. Marketing and Communications 4.1 Work in conjunction with the Marketing, Digital and Communications team to develop a range of creative and innovative marketing materials, to attract those currently on college / university placements and to also engage qualified counsellors, who may be looking for opportunities to volunteer. 4.2 Review existing and design new policies and procedures in order to embed a suite of clearly communicated, up-to-date procedures, processes and practices which take into account the diverse needs of volunteers and internal stakeholders across Place2Be. 4.3 Develop a range of communication tools to help motivate and keep volunteers engaged with the Place2Be community and to keep staff informed and engaged about placement activities. 4.4 Active member of the Brand Steering Group to ensure that Counsellors on Placement requirements are fully met. 4.5 Establish and Chair a cross departmental Counsellors on Placement Working Group. Engagement & Retention 5.1 Work with the Head of Communication, Digital Media Manager, Head of Services and Volunteer Recruitment Team to implement the newly created Counsellor on Placement Handbook. 5.2 Review the effectiveness of the Counsellor on Placement on-boarding processes and inschool induction and work with the VC Recruitment Team and Service Managers to introduce best practice across all clusters. 5.3 Work with the People Development Manager (HR) and Learning & Development Team to develop existing induction training and where necessary create new training to help field staff better engage with Counsellors on Placement. 5.4 Working with Service and Cluster Managers and the VC Recruitment Team, ascertain where regional events for Counsellors on Placement should be held and advise on content. 5.5 Develop a Counsellor on Placement recognition programme that rewards their commitment and contribution to Place2Be. Flexibility The job description is a general outline of the job duties and responsibilities and may be amended as Place2Be develops and expands. CRITERIA Essential Desirable Successful track record of project managing and implementing large scale engagement programmes in one of the following areas: corporate responsibility, volunteer engagement; recruitment (student, graduate or experienced professionals); employee engagement, student engagement or alumni engagement.
