1 Job Title: Grade: Grade 8 Section: Reports to: Responsible for: The Job Is to: Job Description Gas Team Leader Specialist Services Gas Operations Manager Gas and multi-trade workforce, apprentices and subcontractors as allocated to the post holder. organise and control an efficient and cost effective Gas Services Team for allocated areas of work and responsibility using direct labour and sub-contractors if required; and assume specific responsibility for delivering an effective property maintenance and improvement scheme of works, with particular responsibility for gas repairs, improvements and full new installations, including developing larger contracts. The Bigger Picture You will: recruit appropriate employees to the Gas Services works in accordance with organisational procedures including those relating to equal opportunities and to ensure all aspects of work within the sphere of control of this post are carried out in accordance with the organisation s Customer Care Policy; ensure all documentation and investigations in respect of organisational procedures are completed as necessary within, but not limited to, the following areas of responsibility: complaints; insurance claims and procedures; emergency works; authorisation of time sheets; and completion of works orders. participate in, and be competent in applying, the organisation s sickness, absence, disciplinary and grievance procedures including conducting enquiries, return to work interviews and formal meetings in line with procedures; participate in the operation of the gas repairs, maintenance and improvement operations salary schemes including review, maintenance and control and to carry out investigations where directed into queries or problem areas; assume responsibility for specific projects and / or ongoing areas of contract work within Gas Services leading both small and medium size teams; participate in the development of employees within the section, to ensure that individuals achieve their maximum potential contribution; 1
2 plan and promote multi-skilling, ensuring the service s flexibility and development; communicate fully with all employees within Technical Services and WDH as appropriate and participate in maintaining good employee relations; and ensure proper and direct attention to the categorisation of all work orders to achieve completion before the specified date, including cyclical and testing works, set targets and implement measures to maximise potential outputs; recommend changes to keep WDH at the forefront of technological advancements, to aid effective and efficient working; and, undertake any other duties commensurate with the overall purpose of the job and the grade. The Day to Day You will: apply and ensure that all appropriate Health and Safety Regulations, Gas Regulations, codes of practice and procedures relevant to Gas Services are carried out, and communicate and advise where necessary to other employees their responsibilities in this area; play an active role in the monitoring and reviewing of employee absence levels; adhere to and apply legislation, regulations, organisation standing orders and all other relevant procedures as appropriate; organise, review and control efficiently and cost effectively, gas installations, servicing, maintenance and repair services as required to ensure viability; ensure that an inventory is kept of all plant and equipment and regularly checked to ensure safety standards comply and that all operative are trained in its use; be responsible for all transport being used by operatives including hire vehicles and ensure that all safety checks and regulations are complied with in accordance with regulations and WDH policy; ensure that good quality work is provided at all times by the workforce including joint inspections as necessary to determine and ensure that good standards are maintained in accordance with regulations and WDH policy; ensure that Management Support Meetings(MSMs) and appraisals are carried out as required and that identified relevant training is programmed and actively participate in Toolbox Talks and presentations as required; lead by example and ensure that Gas Team Leaders and the gas workforce are flexible across the full range of gas services delivered; ensure through the team approach that emphasis is placed and developed within the team of a customer focused organisation ensuring that training and development plans are formulated and implemented to meet the needs of the service; and supervise gas teams as required to deliver a customer focused service as necessary. 2

Valid CSCS card / CQ I Determination Significant supervisory experience in gas installations in building construction, servicing and maintenance and repair Experience in solving gas appliance and system defects and able to apply remedies Ability to effectively translate regulations and work practices to team members and customers Self motivated to work without supervision Willingness to undertake any necessary training, including new product training, regulatory and legislative and so on, as required for a Gas Team Leader 4
5 Organisational and control of gas new installations plus maintenance and repair work within target times and within a performance management culture Nous Undertake regular closed book examinations in accordance with regulations and legislation Significant knowledge and understanding of gas, new installations, servicing, repair and maintenance issues A wide range of knowledge with regards to working in full compliance with the Gas Safety (installation and use) Regulations 1998 and the Gas Industry s Unsafe Situations Procedure To be IT literate and be competent in the use of IT systems including the technology used for mobile working Excellent understanding and knowledge of the Gas Installation and Use Regulations Knowledge and understanding of all relevant health and safety issues, particularly the risk and management associated with the Corporate Manslaughter Act Knowledge of Performance Management Systems A basic knowledge and awareness of the social housing issues facing the organisation and the impact on delivering gas services / CQ City & Guilds Water Regulations / CQ City & Guilds Energy Efficiency Certificate City & Guilds Pressurised and Unvented Water Services Systems Appropriate Management or Supervisory qualification / CQ / CQ / CQ 5
