2 Overview About Durban FilmMart The Annual Durban FimMart hosts over 500 producers, directors, sales agents, distributors, financiers and funding organisations from across the world. The four day programme is jammed with meetings, project presentations and a series of masterclasses and workshops on the latest trends in film finance, marketing, distribution and new media technologies. Africa In Focus: Industry professionals and entry level filmmakers will be treated to a series of conferences, workshops and seminars. Networking events: Guests and delegates will be invited to attend a series of networking events. In addition the Industry Lounge also provides a valuable marketing opportunity for your organisation, bringing your brand face to face with industry. Designed to create partnerships and further the development and production of African cinema, Durban FilmMart (DFM) ultimately aims to raise the visibility of projects from the African continent, create networking opportunities with potential co-producers and other industry partners and act as a feeder stage for established co-production markets across the globe. The Durban FilmMart is a partnership between the Durban Film Office and the Durban International Film Festival, with principal funding from the City of Durban. The Durban FilmMart comprises the following:- Finance Forum: Selected projects have the opportunity to meet and pitch their projects to film financiers, sales agents and distributors on a one-to-one basis. Masterclass Programme: A series of masterclass programmes by leading industry experts will provide registered delegates an opportunity to enhance industry knowledge and professional skills so that they can compete more effectively locally and internationally. The African Pitch, a full day of pitching to a panel of funders, co-producers and broadcasters in advance of the Finance Forum meetings by all official DFM projects, both fiction and documentary along with three Talents Durban DOC Station projects. 2

5 MEDIA AND MARKETING A robust media campaign is implemented throughout the year, increasing brand awareness for the Durban FilmMart and its supporters. The media campaign includes print, broadcast, online and outdoor advertising. Monthly newsletter mail-outs are sent to industry professionals, including a weekly countdown mailshot leading up to the commencement of the Durban FilmMart. Local print media partner, The Callsheet, produces daily electronic newsletters which are distributed to both their local and African databases. Programme and broadcast partner Afridocs produces live daily broadcasts from DIFF/DFM which are screened every evening on ED (DStv channel 190) and GOtv. (channel 65). The AfriDocs strand is seen in 49 countries by satellite, and terrestrially to an additional 100 cities in eight countries.
