STORAGE AND HANDLING To avoid damage, all James Hardie buildig products should be stored with edges ad corers of the product protected from chippig. James Hardie buildig products must be istalled i a dry state ad protected from weather durig trasport ad storage. 2 DESIGN Compliace All desig ad costructio must comply with the appropriate requiremets of the curret Buildig Code of Australia (BCA), regulatios ad stadards. Resposibility The specifier or other party resposible for the project must esure that the details i this specificatio are appropriate for the iteded applicatio ad that additioal detailig is performed for specific desig of ay areas that fall outside the scope of this specificatio. Slab ad footigs The slab ad footigs o which the buildig is situated must comply with AS 2870 Residetial slabs ad footigs Costructio ad the requiremets of the Buildig Code of Australia (BCA). Groud clearaces Istall James Hardie exteral claddig with a miimum 150mm clearace to the earth o the exterior of the buildig or i accordace with local buildig codes if greater tha 150mm is required. Maitai a miimum 50mm clearace betwee James Hardie exteral claddig ad roofs, decks, paths, steps ad driveways. Adjacet fiished grade must slope away from the buildig i accordace with local buildig codes, typically a miimum slope of 50mm miimum over the first metre. Termite protectio The BCA specifies the requiremets for termite barriers ad must be complied with. Where the exposed slab edge is used as part of the termite barrier system, a miimum of 75mm of the exposed slab edge must be visible to permit ready detectio of termite etry. Moisture maagemet It is the resposibility of desiger or specifier to idetify moisture related risks associated with ay particular buildig desig. Wall costructio desig must effectively maage moisture, accoutig for both the iterior ad exterior eviromets of the buildig, particularly i buildigs that have a higher risk of wid drive rai peetratio or that are artificially heated or cooled. I additio all wall opeigs, peetratios, juctios, coectios, widow sills, heads ad jambs must icorporate appropriate flashig ad waterproofig. Materials, compoets ad their istallatio that are used to maage moisture i framed wall costructio must, at a miimum, comply with the requiremets of relevat stadards ad the BCA. Structural bracig Scyo Liea weatherboard ca be used to achieve wall bracig. Framig members must be i the rage 0.55 to 1.6mm BMT (base metal thickess). Steel Use of steel framig must be i accordace with NASH stadard for Residetial ad Low-Rise Steel Framig Part 1: Desig Criteria ad the framig maufactures specificatios. Framig members must have the appropriate level of durability required to prevet corrosio. Frames must be straight ad true to provide a flush face to receive the Scyo Liea weatherboard. A suggested maximum tolerace of betwee 3mm ad 4mm i ay 3000mm legth of frame will give best results. 5 WINDOWS Widows usig Scyo Axet trim Widows usig the Liea TM Alumiium Widow Adapter FINISHING Preparatio ad primig The Scyo Liea weatherboard ad Scyo Axet trim are pre-primed ad must be dry before paitig. Puch ad fill all exposed ails a maximum of 2mm below the surface of the board. For screws, esure the head of the screw is omially 2mm below the surface of the board. Fill the hole with a suitable exterior grade filler, allow to cure ad sad smooth. Primig of filled ad saded patches may be required i accordace with pait maufacturer s specificatios. Note: Care must be take ot to over-sad as it ca affect the fiish. Sealats Applicatio ad use of sealats must comply with maufacturer s istructios. Sealats, if coated, must be compatible with the pait system. James Hardie recommeds the use of James Hardie joit sealat, which is a paitable polyurethae sealat. Paitig Refer to the project specificatio for pait requiremets. The Scyo Liea weatherboard ad Scyo Axet trim are pre-primed must be paited withi 3 moths of beig fixed. James Hardie recommeds the applicatio of two coats miimum of a quality acrylic pait over the pre-primed boards i accordace with the pait maufacturer s specificatios. Some eviromets require special coatigs. Paitig selectio ad specificatios are depedat o the pait chose. Refer to the pait maufacturer for iformatio ad details of their warraty. Staiig Stais cotaiig liseed oil are specifically desiged for wood ad may ot be suitable forjames Hardie claddig products, primed or uprimed. Semi-trasparet stais ca vary i uiformity of appearace depedig o method of applicatio ad coditios ad will require a high level of skill ad craftsmaship to achieve a uiform appearace. Clear coats have ot prove durable i exterior exposure ad James Hardie cosiders them a maiteace item that may require applicatio of a refurbishig sealer at regular itervals.
