STORAGE AND HANDLING To avoid damage, all James Hardie buildig products should be stored with edges ad corers of the sheets protected from damage. 2 SCOPE This Istallatio Guide covers the use of Scyo Secura Exterior floorig sheets i a tiled residetial deck applicatio. It does ot cotai all iformatio relevat for costructig a deck. Costructig a deck usig Scyo Secura Exterior floorig ivolves the istallatio of two compoets i additio to the uderlyig frame: COMPONENT 1: Istallatio of Sheets Compoet 1 is the Scyo Secura Exterior floorig sheet. This sheet is istalled over durable timber or corrosio resistat light gauge steel frames i a squared or staggered patter, see Table 2 ad AS COMPONENT 2: Waterproofig ad Fiishes (Supplied by third party) Compoet 2 is a third party supplied ad warrated water based waterproofig ad tilig system for use over istalled Scyo Secura Exterior floorig. Compaies offerig such a system at the time of writig are metioed o page 4. Oe of the key purposes of compoet 2 is to keep the deck water tight. To obtai the third party warraty, the etire waterproofig system must be istalled from the same maufacturer. All compoets must be fully compatible with oe aother. There are two types of decks: 1. Water resistat decks, ad 2. Waterproof decks with a: a) Liquid applied membrae; or b) Flexible sheet membrae ad mortar bed The followig table outlies the mai differeces betwee a water resistat ad waterproofed deck. DESIGN Compliace All desig ad costructio must comply with the appropriate requiremets of the curret Buildig Code of Australia (BCA) ad other applicable regulatios ad stadards curret at the time of costructio. Resposibility The specifier or other party resposible for the project must esure that the details i this specificatio are appropriate for the iteded applicatio ad that additioal detailig is performed for specific desig or ay areas that fall outside the scope of this specificatio. James Hardie is ot a waterproofig expert ad therefore the specifier is resposible for carryig out the ecessary desig ad detailig to esure the correct waterproofig ad fiish are i accordace with waterproofig maufacturer s stadard warrated specificatios ad relevat codes ad regulatios. Loadig Scyo Secura Exterior floorig sheets are structurally desiged to withstad the domestic ad residetial activities for self-cotaied dwelligs (Category A1) of Table.1 of AS/NZS Structural desig actios - Permaet, imposed ad other actios of 1.8kN cocetrated load ad a UDL (Uiformly Distributed Load) capacity of 2kPa at the floor joist spacig, outlied i Table 1. For greater loadigs ad commercial deckig applicatios, refer to the James Hardie techical team for specific advice o Fasteer Durability Fasteers must have the appropriate level of durability required for the iteded project. This is of particular importace i coastal areas ad areas subject to salt spray ad other corrosive eviromets. Fasteers must be fully compatible with all other materials that they are i cotact with to esure the durability ad itegrity of the assembly. James Hardie recommeds a miimum Class fasteer for all decks. Cotact fasteer maufacturers for more iformatio. FRAMING Geeral Floor joists must be 45mm wide. All sheet square edges which icludes movemet joits, must be cotiuously supported by framig. Furthermore, adequate vetilatio i the floorspace is recommeded. TABLE 1. NOTE: To help protect agaist moisture igress ad rot, always prime the ed grai of timber members, together with surfaces which are permaetly cocealed ad may be i cotact with other buildig materials. Steel Framig Use of steel framig must be i accordace with NASH stadard for residetial ad low rise steel framig Part 1 ad the framig maufacturer s specificatios. Framig members must be i the rage 0.75mm to 1.9mm BMT (base metal thickess). The steel framig must have the appropriate level of durability required to prevet corrosio. Step Dow There must be a step dow (at least 50mm but preferably 150mm) from the door sill level to the fiished surface of the deck to adequately weatherproof the etry door, particularly if it is subject to rai ad wid. Refer to relevat buildig regulatios ad codes which may specify a larger step dow. Fall Decks must have a fall to facilitate draiage. Decks must have a fall of at least 1 i 100 away from the buildig. Floor joists must ru i the directio of the fall. Do ot provide fall by packig sheets. The fall ca be created by trimmig or slopig the joists. FIGURE 1 FRAME PREPARATION FIGURE 2 DRAINAGE Balustrade The balustrade upright supports must be fixed to the structural frame ad ot to the Scyo Secura Exterior floorig. The balustrade ad its supports must ot compromise the waterproofig ad durability of the deck. The specifier is resposible for ay water issues that could occur due to the peetratio of the balustrade uprights icludig fixigs, flashig, waterproofig ad sheet support. Toleraces I order to achieve a acceptable fiish, it is imperative that framig is straight ad true. A suggested tolerace is -4mm over meters i all directios. Cut desired sheets ad seal cut ad exposed sheet edges with two coats of Wattyl Killrust Heavy Duty Primer or equivalet. Adverse weather coditios may icrease this period to hours. Oce sealat has fully dried, the sheets should be protected from damage ad the likelyhood of excessive water util the fial fiishes are applied.

4 COMPONENT 2: Waterproofig ad Fiishes (Supplied by third party) Compoet 2 is a third party supplied ad warrated waterproofig ad tilig system which is istalled over the istalled Scyo Secura Exterior floorig. The two types of decks discussed i this sectio iclude: 1. A water resistat deck 2. Waterproof decks: a) OPTION 1: Liquid membrae method b) OPTION 2: Flexible sheet membrae/mortar method NOTE: This sectio DOES NOT cotai all iformatio relevat for waterproofig ad is to be used as a guide oly. It is the resposibility of the specifier to carry out the ecessary desig ad detailig to esure the waterproofig ad fiish satisfy all relevat codes, regulatios ad system waterproofig maufacturer recommedatios. WATER RESISTANT DECKS It is recommeded that the deck be made as water tight as possible (i.e that water peetratio be miimised) as it ca lead to damage such as timber dry rot or buildig damage. This icludes all sheet joits, juctios ad fasteers. Durig the istallatio of the Scyo TM Secura TM Exterior floorig sheets, the factory applied sealer is subject to damage from tools, material ad traffic. It is therefore recommeded, that a sigle primig coat of Ardex WPM 00 or equivalet is applied with a roller over water resistat decks before tiles are istalled. Whe tilig direct to sheets with o mortar bed, the 5mm butt joits betwee all adjacet sheets act as cotrol joits. These cotrol joits must be carried up through the tiled fiish, see Figure 1. WATERPROOF DECKS System selectio To achieve a, warrated, fully waterproof deck, requires a compatible ad correctly istalled third party waterproofig system o top of the Scyo Secura Exterior floorig. At the time of writig, the followig third party waterproofig compaies have warrated ad tested waterproofig systems ad techical specificatios for use over Scyo Secura Exterior floorig. Ardex Australia Pty Ltd Bostik Australia Pty Ltd Crommeli ParexDavco Australia OPTION 1: Waterproof System - Liquid Membrae Method ad tile direct This method relies o a suitable liquid applied membrae beig istalled o top of the sheets ad tilig direct. Istallatio of the selected membrae system ad its compoets must be by a licesed accredited applicator able to offer a waterproofig guaratee for tilig direct. 5 OPTION 2: Waterproof System, Slip Sheet ad reiforced mortar bed This method relies o applyig a waterproof system, dual layer of slip sheet, 40mm miimum reiforced mortar bed, additioal waterproof system ad tiles. Staggered Sheet Layout: Mortar Bed FINISHES This sectio is to be read i cojuctio with pages 4 ad 5. Oly use recommeded, warrated ad tested water based waterproofig systems by compaies outlied o page 4 suitable for use o Scyo Secura Exterior floorig sheets ad complyig with AS (Tile mortar bed cotrol joits 4.5x4.5m FIGURE 18 STAGGERED SHEET LAYOUT NOTES ON FIGURE 18 Cotrol joits i floatig mortar bed ad tilig at maximum 4.5 x 4.5m. Not followig this advice will lead to a icreased risk of tile crackig ad system performace issues. NOTE:To reduce efflorescece stais we suggest applyig a additioal waterproof membrae over the mortar bed ad speakig with your cocrete ad tile grout supplier o reducig the risk of efflorescece. A warrated third party waterproof system ad fiish must be applied to the sheets withi moths of istallig the sheets. Keep sheets dry durig this period. Ay waterproof membrae must be appropriately treated at both the joits, juctios ad deck edge to maitai the itegrity of the waterproofed deck. Refer to the third party waterproofig compaies o their waterproofig systems recommedatios at sheet joits, juctios, deck edge to maitai the decks waterproofig itegrity. All waterproofig systems must be sufficietly flexible across sheet joits to accommodate differetial thermal ad moisture movemet of all the coverig materials. The waterproofig system must be istalled by a licesed/accredited applicator who will provide a waterproofig guaratee. All compoets of the deck must be fully compatible with oe aother. For iformatio o suitable waterproofig, tile adhesive ad tiles icludig istallatio istructios ad warraty, refer to a previously metioed waterproof, tile adhesive ad tile maufacturers o page 4 ad AS Tilig Tiles should be applied with proprietary adhesive that coforms to ISO for Ceramic Tiles ad Adhesives, istalled i accordace with AS958.1 ad to tile ad adhesive maufacturer recommedatios. Use a flexible tile adhesive recommeded for exposed exterior applicatios ad compatible with all other materials. Whe tilig direct to sheets with o mortar bed, the 5mm butt joits betwee all adjacet sheets act as cotrol joits. These cotrol joits must be carried up through the tiled fiish, see Figure 1. Whe tilig to a mortar bed, the sheet cotrol joits do ot eed to alig with mortar bed ad tile cotrol joits, see Figure 19. It is recommeded that tiles are laid from the cotrol joit out. This will esure that the cut tiles are located aroud the perimeter of the deckig. Esure the tile adhesive used is suitable ad compatible with adjoiig surfaces for the iteded applicatio with Scyo Secura Exterior floorig ad other compoets. 6 Maiteace Regular cleaig ad maiteace of the fiished surface, joits, juctios, seats, peetratios etc must be carried out at regular itervals. The fiished surface must be kept free of orgaic matter. Remove ay solvet spills immediately with absorbet material. Esure adequate protectio is provided to all exposed waterproofed areas. NOTE: Ay damage to the surface or waterproofig must be repaired immediately to esure that the system maitais its itegrity.
