VMZINC raiwater systems are also highly costeffective, both from a iitial procuremet ad desig life perspective. 4 Raiwater systems Sustaiable performace BRE Evirometal profiles measure the impacts of a costructio material, product or buildig system throughout its life, ot oly durig its maufacture, but also its use i a buildig over a 80 year period. This icludes its extractio, processig, use ad maiteace ad its evetual disposal. VMZINC has bee audited ad reviewed by BRE Global. The Life Cycle Assessmet (LCA) modellig derives a Certified Evirometal Profile ad a Gree Guide ratig has bee produced. A wide rage of zic roofig ad claddig systems has bee audited with the systems receivig a Gree Guide ratig of up to A+. These profiles ca the be applied to the BREEAM (BRE Evirometal Assessmet Method) allowig VMZINC to cotribute to schemes such as the Code for Sustaiable Homes. OHSAS Sice 2009, VMZINC has bee OHSAS certified, thus coformig to occupatioal health ad safety maagemet systems. ISO VMZINC maufacturig plats have coformed to ISO sice 2004/5 so processes are strictly cotrolled to esure that emissios are sigificatly below the atioal regulatio threshold. ISO 9001 ISO 9001 is the iteratioally recogised stadard for the quality maagemet of busiesses ad applies to all VMZINC products ad services. Certificatio was origially obtaied i 1997 ad updated i November 2003 to coform to ISO 9001: Raiwater systems

As with VMZINC façade ad roofig systems, maufacturig processes for our raiwater systems preset a low evirometal impact, particularly with regard to eergy expediture. As the comparative eergy expediture diagram opposite shows, less eergy is required to extract zic from the groud tha the other pricipal metals, ad is eve more favourable for recycled zic. Such miimal use of eergy i the productio of zic clearly idicates its cotributio to sustaiable developmet. 95% of old rolled zic recovered every year i Wester Europe, curretly estimated at 100,000 toes, is reused. This represets savigs i miig resources of betwee 1 ad 2 millio toes. VMZINC raiwater systems beefit from zic s self-protectig patia which develops as a result of exposure to oxyge, carbo dioxide ad water. The average rate of corrosio of VMZINC rolled zic is 1μm per year. With a iitial thickess of 0.7mm, a simple calculatio demostrates that the estimated life spa of rolled zic is over a hudred years. The surface is resistat to the accumulatio of dirt ad debris thereby esurig that good water flow ad discharge rates are maitaied. Desiged to be easily ad quickly istalled, the Half Roud raiwater system s cocealed brackets simply clip oto the gutter sectios, which i tur slide ad twist together. The gutter joits are the boded ad sealed usig a specially formulated, high performace gu-applied joit adhesive, VMZINC-G. Dowpipes are secured to the wall usig a simple but igeious v-lock ad self-lockig bracket assembly. Dowpipes are the push-fitted together but are ot boded, allowig the joits to expad ad cotract to accommodate varyig thermal coditios. 10 Half Roud raiwater system Istallatio procedures Raiwater systems Istallig the gutters 1 2 Usig a rule, make a chalklie settig the fall (mi 1:200) towards the ruig outlet ad required positio of the dowpipe. Cut the ruig outlet to the required legth, startig from the rolled frot edge. 3 Use the VMZINC adhesive to seal ad fix the stop ed. To avoid cuts from edges, always wear gloves whe hadlig zic compoets. 4 Always use two cocealed brackets to secure the ruig outlet. 5 Firmly fix the prepared ruig outlet accordig to the chalklie. 6 As for the ruig outlet, whe cuttig gutter to the required legth, always saw from the rolled frot edge first. 7 8 Clip cocealed brackets to the cut legths of gutter at 400mm max cetres. Secure each bracket to the gutter by foldig i the two tabs. The thoroughly clea the gutter joits before gluig. 10 Raiwater systems

Isert the prepared gutter ito the already istalled ruig outlet via the rolled frot edge first. Esure a 50mm mi overlap Fix the gutter brackets accordig to the chalklie. 12 Fially, fit the other stop ed. Istallig the dowpipes 1 2 Take two beds ad measure the distace from the wall. Oce measured, fit the two beds together. It may be ecessary to exted the assembly usig a piece of dowpipe. 3 4 At dowpipe joits, mark positios for the v-locks at every 2 metres (maximum). The firmly screw-fix the v-lock to the wall. Place the self-lockig bracket o the ed of each pipe, the slide the assembly eatly ito the v-lock to complete the istallatio. Raiwater systems 11

It has bee developed over may years ad has bee i widespread use i Europe for commercial ad multiple storey buildigs i both the ew build ad refurbishmet sectors. The varyig profiles allow the right gutter to be matched with the right architecture. The use of soldered joits for gutters provides a low maiteace joitig solutio that has bee used for over two hudred years ad requires virtually o maiteace throughout the buildig s desig life. VMZINC solutios are BRE Gree Guide rated ad the pre-weathered zic used to maufacture the raiwater systems will ot discolour, distort or become brittle over time. Due to the purity of rolled zic used, cut edges will ot corrode as the metal develops a atural self-protectig patia. By cotrast, systems which utilise powdercoated ad eve zic-coated fiishes may be susceptible whe gutter legths are cut or to surface abrasio. VMZINC Raiwater systems suffer o adverse effects of surface deterioratio ad, with the Box raiwater system i particular, faceted details ca be accommodated without the eed for bespoke compoets.
