6 November 2009: NSTDA and Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (FhG) signed a 2 year MOU in support of future collaborative R&D, researchers mobility and technology transfer. July 2010: NSTDA led a Thai Delegation (NSTDA executives, NSTDA researchers and Thai PV industry s executives) in a visit to Fraunhofer ISE to follow up on the identified area of PV development and to possibly seek other joint collaborations for SOLARTEC (now STL)/NSTDA Fraunhofer ISE Thai Solar Energy companies Interests on the Thai side include o o o A field test in Thailand for various PV systems for different PV modules and different system configurations A possible collaboration with Fraunhofer ISE on a System Certification Center in Thailand A better understanding of how feed-in-tariff (FIT) was introduced in Germany and why it was successful 6

7 Solar Club was created after the trip to Fraunhofer ISE in July

8 A non-official association Members include all solar power stakeholders in Thailand Vision : No.1 in Solar Electrification in ASEAN Mission: To achieve a complete solar value chain by 2015 To deliver affordable solar energy by 2015 Activities: Exchange and share information among stakeholders Provide support information and/or advice to policymakers 8

16 Qualitative growth? A new target for PV = 2000 reflects Thai government s intention to keep registered proposals until PPA signed. o With remaining signed PPAs that ready for construction o With a number of proposed projects in pipeline With more developers who understand Thai business environment. With more financial institutes who understand PV power plant projects. With more EPC and construction companies who have experiences in building large scale PV power plants. With utilities, PEA and EGAT, who have experiences in high PV power penetration to the electricity system. We believe that PV development in Thailand can be a qualitative growth. The political situation has never shown impact to PPA that have already been signed. 16
