3 Introduction to Energy Introduction to Energy was developed to raise awareness of energy issues, looking at how individuals and organisations can improve the energy efficiency of their homes, housing stock or business premises in order to save money and reduce their carbon footprint The course provides those at the forefront of giving energy advice the practical knowledge they need to help their customers Solvo Vir s experienced energy specialists have already successfully delivered the qualification to housing associations, energy advice charities and energy efficiency companies. It has also benefitted those involved in the promotion of low carbon products & services As we have accessed funding from the European Social Fund and are working in partnership with Serco, we can deliver this qualification at no cost to your business or your employees
4 What will you learn? How we use energy in residential & commercial properties and how to reduce this usage How energy is wasted in these buildings and how to prevent this waste The energy efficiency products available to consumers and Government incentives How the community can make energy more affordable Issues regarding the current global climate Sustainability, renewable energy and low and zero carbon technologies The damage caused by existing energy production methods How we can make travel more energy efficient
5 Assessment & support Pre-course interactive learning module aimed at giving the learner an insight into energy efficiency and sustainability 1 day group workshop (3 modules) featuring presentations, active discussions and 2 multiple choice assessments Taught by highly motivated experienced trainers with expertise in the energy and sustainability sectors Suitable for groups or teams of individuals employees and volunteers Access to high quality training facilities throughout the UK or delivered at your business premises Training can be used as CPD for employees with existing knowledge of energy efficiency
6 Entry requirements Available to businesses that employ less than 250 people in the Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP s) which covers Bournemouth, Christchurch, East Dorset, North Dorset, Poole, Purbeck, West Dorset, Weymouth and Portland. No restrictions to registration or attendance at the workshop No prior attainment required Available for learners who are no upper age limit Learners must be eligible to work in the UK Access to a computer required for the pre-course module No cost to your business or employees funded by the European Social Fund and delivered in partnership with Serco.
7 Course content Pre-course learning module Delivery based around online interactive links to carefully chosen energy efficiency & sustainability sites. Understanding of: - Sustainability and renewable energy Energy production & usage Climate change The Greenhouse Effect Acid rain Assessment: - No direct assessment but the knowledge gained will assist the learner to understand the further modules covered in the workshop An Introduction to Energy Efficiency (module 1) [morning session] Delivery based around a PowerPoint presentation and enhanced by the practical experiences of the trainer. Understanding of: - How to improve the energy efficiency of a building The energy efficiency products available to consumers How to manage energy within the home How to make travel more energy efficient The energy efficiency strategies that can be adopted at a community level Assessment: - Multiple choice test Professional discussion
8 Course content Sustainable & renewable energy technologies (module 2) [afternoon session] Delivery based around a PowerPoint presentation and enhanced by the practical experiences of the trainer. Understanding gained of: - Global climate issues & Sustainability Sustainable, renewable and nonrenewable energy sources The renewable technologies available to consumers Global energy use and its supply chain Existing energy sources, their waste products and damage to the environment Government incentive schemes Fuel poverty Assessment: - Working in groups (module 3) [continual assessment during modules 1 & 2] The module aims to ensure all learners understand how to contribute to working as part of a group in an appropriate way. Understanding gained of: - How to behave when working in groups What is appropriate / inappropriate behaviour How each learner s contribution enhanced the group s learning Assessment: - Continual observation by the trainer Self-evaluation forms about the group work carried out Multiple choice test Professional discussion
