1 JOB TITLE Marketing Development Manager LOCATION Compassion UK, Weybridge, Surrey RESPONSIBLE TO Marketing Director RESPONSIBLE FOR Marketing Development Team INTRODUCTION In response to the Great Commission, Compassion UK exists as an advocate for children, to release them from their spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty and enable them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults. This entire purpose is embodied in the phrase: Releasing children from poverty in Jesus name. The three ministry distinctives that define Compassion UK s ministry: Christ-centred We are committed to acknowledging and glorifying Jesus Christ in all we do. This commitment includes employing staff and electing directors who share our values and statement of faith, working in a Biblical manner, declaring the open profession of our faith in our promotional materials, and encouraging regular times of praise and worship, prayer and Bible study. Church-based We acknowledge that the local church is the vehicle that God has ordained to carry out His ministry on the earth. We are committed to partnering with the local church in seeking sponsors and income and delivering Compassion s holistic child development ministry. Child focused strategy: Christian holistic development of children in poverty through sponsorship. JOB PURPOSE Working closely with and supporting the Marketing Director, the Marketing Development Manager is responsible for the management of all internal communications, marketing and communication development on the various programmes and products Compassion offer, as well as supporting new product development.

2 SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Marketing Management Responsible for delivering agreed targets (where relevant) Supporting the Marketing Director with: The implementation of the Marketing & Communication strategy and plan The development of new products and initiatives Managing the Marketing Development Team and specialist outputs Ensure that all Compassion products are optimised Brief, manage and approve design jobs, promotional pieces and campaigns Remain on top of market trends and competitor activity 2. Communication Manage ongoing internal communication (e.g. the annual report and other internal requirements) Develop films to support specific product initiatives e.g. church partnerships Manage ongoing communication projects, including the prayer diary, country information updates, updates regarding emergency situations impacting Compassion sponsored children etc. Accurately represent Compassion s Christian mission, ethos and values in all marketing materials and communications pieces Research and write feature articles, news items mailings Proofread and edit copy and write additional copy as required Manage and oversee the development of ad hoc communications pieces Ensure formerly sponsored children, sponsors and others associated with Compassion are interviewed Ensure press cuttings, marketing materials, DVD resources, spreadsheets and work orders are up to date Upload campaign material to the international asset exchange, send discs of Compassion marketing materials and field country offices with links three times a year or as needed 3. Line Management Establish vision within the team providing leadership, direction and supervision Training team on Compassion core values and processes Manage personal and team workload, prioritising appropriately, setting targets and monitoring success Implement Compassion UK s appraisal policy to ensure effective performance and people management Chair regular team meetings as opportunities to develop knowledge and build team spirit as well as mitigate team conflicts and communication problems Meet regularly with each team member as an integral part of their ongoing development and ensure the effective utilisation of each team member to his/her fullest potential; Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff

3 4. Other tasks General office administration and responding to queries using customer management system Occasionally represent Compassion at events to speak about the work 5. Promote and Maintain CUK s Christian Ethos and Values Actively live and work in accordance with the Christian ethos and values of the organisation at all times; actively demonstrating the practical outworking of these values and taking personal responsibility for how your individual attitude and actions impact on the Christ centred working of Compassion. Actively participate in the spiritual life of the organisation in the following ways: Model Godly character in all aspects of conduct. Pursue and maintain your Christian faith through ongoing personal spiritual development and a personal relationship with God. Contribute in Christian praise, worship, prayer and biblical reflection during collective prayer times, joining with colleagues in praying for the work of the organisation. Provide support and spiritual encouragement to colleagues, in line with biblical principles. Assist in promoting inclusivity within the organisation, so the organisation continues to champion diversity whilst maintaining a clear Christian distinctive. This job profile is not intended to be exhaustive but merely a guide to the main areas of responsibility. Any substantial changes to this job profile will be discussed fully with the post holder.

4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Knowledge & Education Demonstrable working knowledge of researching and writing news and feature articles. Tertiary level education required in Communications and/or Marketing Understanding of how the Christian Ethos and Values of a Christian organisation are reflected in the working of the organisation particularly in relation to marketing Familiar with office administration: Microsoft packages, telephone systems Familiar with the use of the internet and intranet Understanding of graphic design and print production processes preferable Skills & Abilities First class interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills via , telephone and letters The ability to manage a varied and unpredictable workload Organised and able to work to agreed deadlines and agreed targets Excellent keyboard skills Is thorough in completing tasks to a high standard and dissatisfied with average performance Ability to work as a member of a team and is aware of colleagues and their needs Ability to manage personal workload and prioritise appropriately on core tasks Able to work under own initiative with minimum supervision Experience Experience of dealing with written communications and publications preferable, particularly experience of researching and writing news and feature articles Experience of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Adobe Acrobat Pro is required Basic knowledge of HTML is desirable Basic understanding of variable mailing data and data management is desirable Basic understanding of branding and brand guidelines is desirable Experience in managing design jobs and print handling is desirable Fluent in English with an excellent grasp of written communications A background in innovation or new product development is beneficial Knowledge of customer retention is desirable Christian Ethos Personal Qualities Willing and able to pray for sponsors and colleagues Personal commitment to the Christian Faith and able to promote the Christian ethos of Compassion UK and enable others to experience, explore and express the faith based motivation of its work In agreement with and committed to respect and work within Compassion s Christian Mission, Values and Faith Statements A keen interest in publication style and design Self motivated and willing to learn on the job High quality work in terms of output and standards produced Able to work to deadlines and work extended/flexible hours if required

5 INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS Job Title: Hours of work: Location: Travel: Marketing Development Manager Monday Friday, 9 am 5 pm Compassion UK, Weybridge, Surrey Not required except for occasional training & speaking events Salary & benefits: Salary 31,580 pa (pro rata) Benefits include full health (AXA PPP) and dental insurance (Denplan) for all permanent staff on satisfactory completion of their probationary period. Annual Leave Full Year: All employees will be entitled to 5 weeks annual leave a *year (pro rata), plus bank holidays (pro rata). It will be compulsory for 5 (or relevant pro rata) days of that entitlement to be held in reserve and taken during the Christmas Period when Compassion UK close their offices, this is usually around 21 December to 1 January each year. (*Year = 1 January to 31 December) Pensions: There is a non contributory pension scheme for permanent staff to join on satisfactory completion of their probationary period. Training and Development: Compassion UK seeks to enable each individual to develop to their full potential through a comprehensive performance review process and ongoing opportunities to develop within their role and through external and internal training as applicable. All new staff will be given a comprehensive induction. New Staff Service: Six month probationary period with three month review. Internal Appointments: Performance review at three and six months. Statement of Faith: Compassion is a Christian organisation. The post holder will be part of the Marketing department, which is responsible for delivering the main Christian message of Compassion UK. One area of the interview will therefore explore your active personal commitment to the Christian Faith and ability to promote the Christian ethos of Compassion and enable others to experience, explore and express the faith based motivation of its work.
