PRIMARY OBJECTIVES To provide a strategic approach to the implementation of the following three LCP career and transition programmes: Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) Programme: Career and Transition Support (CTS) Programme; and Adopt a School Programme (ASP) As Coordinator, you will facilitate the delivery of these career and transition programmes to all schools (across the Government, Catholic and other non-government schooling sectors) for the benefit of all young people (aged 13-19) within Region 90 of Mildura Rural City. This encompasses 11 schools in Mildura, Merbein, Irymple, and Red Cliffs and Sunraysia Institute of TAFE. The LCP Coordinator partners with: local industry and employer groups schools professional career advisers community organisations parents and young people youth service providers and; other government organisations. The LCP aims to assist all young people aged years to gain the skills, experience and professional guidance to help them achieve a successful transition through school, and from school to further education, training and employment.

2 Page 2 of 5 This requires the LCP Coordinator to: facilitate access to information and career advice; in order for young people to make informed choices about their future; facilitate and monitor relevant work placement through the Structured Workplace Learning programme during schooling; manage and promote industry-led Adopt a School projects; promote vocational education and training pathways and opportunities; enhance monitoring and mentoring arrangements of all young people, particularly year 9 and 10 students; facilitate the engagement of parents, teachers and career advisers in education about post school options; and facilitate the provision of advice on youth services and programmes. ORGANISATIONAL ENVIRONMENT Career Advice Australia consists of a suite of programmes and initiatives aimed at establishing a comprehensive national career development and transition support system for all young Australians from years. A national network of LCPs is a key element of this. The LCP contract for the Mildura region is managed by a consortium comprising MADEC as the lead agency, Sunraysia Murray Group Training (SMGT) and Centacare. These well established community-based businesses operate throughout the Sunraysia, Central Murray and Murray- Darling geographical areas. Together, the consortium has a successful history of providing assistance to regional communities in training, education and employment, and providing a variety of other related support services for young people aged The Consortium has established extensive links and networks throughout the labour market and through their respective core businesses, allows for an holistic service approach to supporting the transitional needs of the region s youth. As the lead agent, the MADEC Board is the governing body responsible for implementation of the three career and transition programmes. The LCP Co-ordinator reports directly to the LCP Management Committee (comprising representatives of MADEC, Sunraysia Murray Group Training and Centacare) who are responsible for project delivery and to develop strategic relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders, that identify career and transition gaps and avoid duplication of services within the region.

Lateral Relationships: Key representatives of stakeholder groups of LCP Committee. Subordinates: none SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES Interaction Coordinate Consortium and LCP Management meetings. Provide formal documentation and quality reporting to the LCP Management Committee and to the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST). Prepare an annual business plan to the LCP Management Committee and to Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST). Contribute to the development and implementation of the Consortiums 3-year Strategic Plan. Provide regular information briefings to the Sunraysia Careers Teachers Association and other school staff including Vocational Education & Training (VET) & Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) Coordinators. Attend and present at parent, school, employer and industry meetings. Work with LCPs in the regional and state networks. Co-ordination and Administration Assume overall responsibility for the coordination of the 3 programmes. Maintain a student/employer/placement database and maintain up to date business profiles on local careers website Ensure relevant information is available for both employers and students during SWL placements and Adopt a School projects. Keep accurate financial records and make payments as directed by the LCP Executive Committee. Maintain records of all LCP projects including ongoing evaluation. Assist the LCP Committee to prepare and update the LCP Risk Management Plan. Marketing & Promotion Develop strategies to engage key stakeholders in program activities, establish and nurture new relationships, and build on existing ones. Provide user-friendly information packages that give details of options available to young people and employers. Facilitate additional support and mentoring for young people with special needs and promote to relevant stakeholders. Involve local role models (i.e. local business people, former students) to encourage eligible young people to participate. Undertake promotion and marketing of LCP initiatives throughout the service region. Utilise current networks to encourage involvement in the SWL programme. Prepare advertising and involve local media in the marketing of LCP projects.

4 Page 4 of 5 Organise information sessions and promotional campaigns to attract interest and participation of key stakeholder groups. Develop interest based sub-committees (if required) to involve local stakeholder groups and a strategy to ensure diversity of local representation. Contact relevant business, industry and community based organisations, to provide information and representation. Other Undertake extensive research and identify gaps and barriers to avoid duplication of career and transition services. Demonstrate an understanding of commitment to continuous quality improvement and equal opportunity. Maintain knowledge and skills relevant to the position through developing opportunities and affiliations with relevant professional bodies. Develop, monitor and report on the LCP Strategic and Business Plans. KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Qualifications Relevant and appropriate skills or qualifications, and/or previous experience in career development work with young people are essential; and/or a willingness to undertake components of the Australian Career Development Studies (ACDS) within three months of commencement. A current driver s licence is essential. Knowledge and Skills Well developed communication, organisational and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently, exercising initiative and the capacity to supervise other staff involved in career and transition services (if required). highly developed computer skills. Demonstrated organisational ability for effective time management in a busy workplace environment. A good understanding of privacy and confidentiality. An understanding of the principles of Quality Assurance. Excellent attention to detail, including maintaining effective reporting, budgets, administration and management of computerised records. A high standard of written English, with the ability to write reports, recommendations, supporting documentation, instructions, marketing literature and advertisements. An understanding of the Australian Government s Career Advice Australia initiatives.

5 Page 5 of 5 Experience Previous experience in career development specific study, or be willing to undertake components of the Australian Career Development Studies (ACDS) within three months of commencement is essential. Previous experience in career development work with young people is desirable. Personal Attributes (General) Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills appropriate to the primary objectives of the role. A willingness and capacity to learn on a continuous basis. Able and prepared to apply skills and knowledge outside the confines of the major role, to exercise initiative, and to adapt to changing demands. Able to work both independently, and as a contributing member of a team. An understanding of and commitment to quality and customer service. A non-judgmental and empathetic attitude and showing acceptance of persons of diverse backgrounds. Effective organisational and time management skills Capacity to provide leadership and gain the cooperation of others. Maintain professional and appropriate personal presentation at all times. Personal Attributes (Specific to the Role) The ability to effectively network with all key stakeholders and participants. An understanding of Privacy Principles when dealing with all key stakeholders and participants and the importance of confidentiality in dealing with personal information. A capacity to work flexible hours to attend Consortium, LCP Management Committee and other meetings as required. Statutory and National checks The successful applicant must undergo and successfully complete a National Police Check and a Working With Children s Check. PROBATION This position is subject to an initial probationary period of three (3) months in accordance with legislation under the Workplace Relations Act 1996.
