1 Vice President, Education Position As the Vice President, Education, you will provide strategic direction as you lead and oversee all aspects of educational programs, products, and services at the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI). Supervising a team of 2, you will identify gaps in education, create and implement newly developed and innovative programs, and work in close partnership with the education committee as you guide them through this process. SCAI s members know they can rely on our staff to deliver what they need. Building on a track record of trust and rapport, our members count on us to establish and develop programs that ensure they are meeting or exceeding industry standards. SCAI is the only society that fights for interventional cardiology by getting interventionalists their own designation for CMS; serving as the primary leader in securing new codes and establishing national reimbursement valuations for new interventional cardiology cardiovascular services and procedures; obtaining and expanding coverage for new and existing interventions; protecting the existing valuations for Interventional Cardiology s core procedures; and continually educating regulators about the value and intensity of interventional cardiology procedures. SCAI is financially strong ($8.5 million annual budget), and with our new executive director securely on board (an executive with a track record that includes a successful startup and three turn-around organizations), there are significant opportunities on deck for the organization. You will work closely with the executive director and the senior leadership team as we build upon an already successful platform of programs, implement new systems (you will come in the door at the early stages of our identification of a new LMS and AMS), improve upon current policies and procedures, and continue to serve as a go-to resource for our members. Success in this role entails a personal track record of smoothly launching new programs while deftly coming up to speed on the needs of the members and the industry. In your first year, you will be part of a team identifying and implementing the LMS; identify gaps in education; plan and launch new programs; work closely with and align program efforts with the senior associate director for quality initiatives; ensure all processes are compliant, documented, and running smoothly; and serve as a trusted partner to the education committee. You will assess opportunities to build up and build out new programs (e.g., cath lab for cardiovascular professionals / CVPs), and you will also scan, identify, and support grant submissions. Your efforts will also include staying abreast of continuing medical education rules and ensuring that SCAI stays within ACCME/MOC compliance for accreditation; maintaining, updating, and implementing the educational (and quality) goals in SCAI s Strategic Plan; and working closely with assigned staff and consultants. You will lead the administration of SCAI s online educational programs, ensuring especially that all online programs are properly integrated and managed. You will also work closely with the meetings team regarding compliance for SCAI educational meetings. Page 1 of 5

2 Organization Whether it is interventional cardiology's premiere event, SCAI's Annual Scientific Sessions, sharing knowledge at a worldwide gathering or smaller regional and specialized programs, or through online resources, SCAI is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to offering diverse educational opportunities for interventional and invasive cardiologists. The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions promotes excellence in invasive and interventional cardiovascular medicine through education and representation, and the advancement of quality standards to enhance patient care. SCAI now has a membership of over 4,300 invasive/interventional cardiologists and cath lab team members. There are currently approximately 17 committees, which are open to all members. Focus areas for SCAI include establishing standards and guidelines for all aspects of cardiac catheterization and angiography, training, credentialing, safety, and quality assurance for cardiovascular procedures. SCAI is committed to improving the quality of patient care for all patients of interventional cardiology. SCAI keeps up with ever-evolving advances in interventional therapies and educates members by developing education and guidelines and providing quality improvement tools critical for interventional cardiologists. Responsibilities Work with the leadership team and implement a newly created strategic plan for education and quality; work with the Education Committee and other relevant committees and staff. Work with the leadership team to identify and smoothly implement a new LMS. Track trends and new offerings in continuing medical education and recommend new approaches and offerings. Serve as staff lead for SCAI Education Committee; work closely with the Education Committee Chair. Lead education efforts to serve all SCAI members, including Fellows in Training (FIT) and Cardiovascular Professionals (CVP) members. Provide oversight/management of all SCAI ACCME documentation and compliance requirements, including: o Oversight/management of ACCME reaccreditation. o Oversee/manage SCAI ACCME ongoing compliance activities, including all documentation, onsite compliance during SCAI CME programs, and reporting requirements. o Maintain a thorough understanding of all ACCME rules, requirements, updates, and scheduled changes; oversee compliance. Serve as SCAI staff lead for the management of all education co-sponsorship requests. Provide expertise and guidance in all SCAI matters involving educational programs and meetings. Page 2 of 5

3 Develop and implement activities to define, pursue, and achieve SCAI s goals for educational programs. Recommend appropriate instructional design systems and methodologies to Education and Quality Committees and SCAI leadership. Conduct educational needs and quality assessment. Participate with physician leadership and the executive director in exploring partnerships with other organizations. Oversee development of learning objectives, program director selection, and curriculum planning for all educational programs other than the annual meeting and provide support for the annual meeting. Establish recommended budgetary guidelines for direct-sponsored educational programs and ensure all proposals and grant requests are developed in accordance with said guidelines. Manage and grow all international partnerships for educational programs. Focus on quality initiatives pertaining to interventionists, working with relevant entities. Manage, grow, and integrate all online SCAI educational programs as follows: o Coordinate with relevant industry partners and physician/cvp committee members to facilitate the funding and logistics for the assigned educational programs; o Work with technical staff to ensure these programs are offered in a technologically reliable, modern, and engaging manner; o Ensure collaboration of online programs, staff, physicians/cvp, and contractors to ensure that all these programs are properly integrated; ensure the content is accurate, up-to-date, and educationally valuable. o Assist internal staff and/or vendors with marketing, public relations, fundraising, and evaluation activities for these programs. Develop, monitor, and present budgets for education, including cost-containment suggestions, business plans, analysis, and reporting. Organize committee calls and in-person meetings, setting agendas per education strategic goals; draft minutes; ensure action items are accomplished. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of leadership experience developing and overseeing education and quality programs, especially healthcare-related (medical/cardiovascular preferred). MBA or master s degree in related discipline preferred. Must have experience and knowledge of CME procedures and regulations (helpful to have experience with reaccreditation of a CME program). Must be able to ensure proper compliance procedures are followed. Demonstrated experience with all aspects of educational conferences and meetings. Page 3 of 5

4 Professional society experience required, medical preferred; healthcare society experience critical. Experience in financial management budget development, monitoring, costcontainment, analysis, and reporting. Proven ability to mentor and manage staff. Experience with data analysis to determine the efficacy of programs. Minimum 3-5 years of healthcare experience, including an understanding of the role of professional education in medical care. Exceptional interpersonal, team-building, rapport-building, organizational, and collaboration skills. Ability to multitask and work well under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Experience in nonprofit volunteer committee management; physician volunteers preferred. Ability to travel approximately percent of the time to support society activities, such as attending meetings and other events. Ability to take conference calls on weekdays between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm. Attributes Strong leader. You have proven leadership and management skills, and a profoundly collaborative style.
