1 INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY (ICT) POLICY Plicy release details Date f Revisin Endrsed by CEO Next Review Date Nv 2013 Mar 2013 May 2015 PURPOSE This plicy prvides directin in managing usage f the Cllege s ICT resurces and in allwing r denying access t Staines Memrial ICT, including cmputer, resurces. It is imprtant fr the ICT (cmputer) users at Staines Memrial t practice ethical behaviur in all ICT activities and applicatins because users have access t many valuable and sensitive resurces. Cntinued access withut penalty depends n users t act accrding t certain cnditins. Failure t cmply with this plicy may result in temprary r permanent lss f access t ur systems and services. Use f the Staines cmputing and netwrk resurces is a privilege and nt a right. SCOPE It is expected that all users (students, staff, authrised cmmunity members) f ur ICT resurces (including ur netwrk) use the mst apprpriate technlgy t enhance the learning and safety f students. Users f ur systems are bund by the cntents f this plicy. Staff and in time students will be encuraged t purchase their wn devices and use them t enhance their learning. (Guidelines fr the best type f device t enable functinality with ur netwrk will be prvided.) Cmmunity (student, staff, authrised cmmunity members) member s devices must adapt t the systems and prtcls f the Cllege and nt impede the wrkings f Cllege functinality. Staines Memrial ICT resurces: are defined as all publicly available netwrks, prcessrs, peripherals, sftware and supplies under the central administrative ffices f Staines Memrial and its campuses. DETAILS Lgin ID Access t the Cllege netwrk is enabled thugh an individual lgin. Upn applicatin t the Principal (r delegate i.e. Resurce Manager r ICT Crdinatr) members f the Staines Memrial cmmunity may be issued a Lgin ID t access ne r mre Staines Memrial cmputer resurces. This Lgin ID will remain valid s lng as the individual is assciated with Staines Memrial and the user uses the resurces cnsistent with the Cllege eths and plicies. The prper use f a Lgin ID is the respnsibility f the individual under whse name it has been assigned. Passwrd A generic passwrd will be prvided at the pint f initial access and needs t be changed n the ccasin f first use and then changed at frequent intervals t ensure privacy f use. 2 Access, Security and Persnal Satiety Use f the Staines Memrial cmputing and netwrk resurces is a privilege and nt a right. All users are expected t act in the best welfare interests f the Cllege cmmunity and its members Inapprpriate use f the Internet and ther netwrks t which Staines is directly r indirectly cnnected will be deemed an abuse f cmputer privileges and will result in at least a suspensin f use. Examples f inapprpriate use f the netwrks are listed belw but nt limited t: participating in netwrk activities that place a strain n limited cmputer resurces including any type f netwrk games, dwnlading f games and ther large files withut permissin. sending f bscene, ffensive and/r harassing messages t ther individuals n the netwrk, using technlgy t bully r spread gssip attempting unauthrised access f anther netwrk cmputer system frm Staines cmputer resurces, attempting installatin, mdificatin r remval f cmputer equipment, sftware, r peripherals withut prper authrisatin. Electrnic Dcument: creatin and deletin Dcuments created by users n ur Netwrk will be subject t quality cntrl. Dcuments deemed t be disruptive r incnsistent with the Cllege eths and values will be remved frm the netwrk. Electrnic dcuments created by users upn their departure frm the Cllege will be deleted unless they are deemed t be Cllege prperty r f Cllege benefit. Such dcuments will be apprpriately stred fr future use. Cpyrights and Licenses Users must respect cpyrights and licenses t sftware and ther n-line infrmatin. Sftware prtected by cpyright is NOT t be cpied except as specifically stipulated by the wner f the cpyright r therwise permitted by cpyright law. Prtected sftware may nt be cpied int, frm, r by any Cllege facility r system, except pursuant t a valid license r as therwise permitted by cpyright law. In additin t sftware, all ther cpyrighted infrmatin (text, images, icns, prgrams, etc.) retrieved frm cmputer r netwrk resurces must be used in cnfrmance with applicable cpyright and ther law. Cpied material must be prperly attributed. Plagiarism f cmputer infrmatin is subject t the same sanctins as apply t plagiarism in any ther media. Electrnic cmmunicatin: / text messages and ther electrnic messaging activities The Cllege assigned accunt is intended fr cmmunicatin f facts that will assist Cllege peratins and/r the cnstructive educatin f members f ur cmmunity. Mass distributin f messages (including by ) is permissible nly fr relevant Cllege business and is nt t prmte an external activity unless such activity is authrised by the Principal Mass distributin f ther nn- Cllege business and nn-cllege-spnsred activities is likely t be cnsidered "spamming" and a vilatin f the cnditins fr use f ICT resurces. Mass distributin f messages using technlgy t a grup f Cllege users, wh have nt therwise indicated their desire t receive messages, is unacceptable. If an pinin is sught, r dialgue is imprtant, the Cllege leadership prefers users t meet face t face t as t minimise the likelihd f misinterpretatin. 70% f cmmunicatin uses nn-verbal cues which are nt visible with many electrnic messaging tls. The Cllege leadership expects that if electrnic messaging is used t cnvey infrmatin, there is a need t check that messages sent d get t the user and in the timeframe anticipated. As technlgy des nt deliver messages cnsistently and in real time, all users are expected t nt seek an electrnic respnse within a 24 hur perid. 3 BYOD (Bring yur wn device) Members f the Staines Memrial Cllege cmmunity are encuraged t use their wn device, cnsistent with ur Cllege eths, values and practices articulated in this dcument and ther Cllege plicy and prcedure dcuments. The care, security and maintenance f such devices remain the respnsibility f each user. Access t the netwrk and its devices will be facilitated by the ICT Crdinatr (r their delegate) n cmpletin f an applicatin. The privilege f cntinuing access will depend n cntinued apprpriate use. Persnal devices need t functin within the cllege netwrk. The netwrk will nt be adjusted t suit persnal devices. VIOLATIONS OF THE POLICY Staines Memrial will take the fllwing actin against an individual wh abuses r fails t cmply with the stated ICT Plicy: Suspensin f Privileges: The Head f Teaching & Learning / Resurces Crdinatr / ICT Crdinatr may temprarily suspend user access privileges if he r she believes it is necessary r apprpriate t maintain the integrity f the cmputer system r netwrk. If the vilatin is created by a student, the apprpriate Parent/Guardian will als be infrmed with ntificatin f the investigatin. Subsequent actins taken by the Cllege administrative authrities will depend n the severity f the cmputer abuse. Breaches f security are likely lead t a terminatin f a relatinship with the Cllege. Any breaches f the Cmmunicatins law including accessing illegal material will similarly likely result in prmpt terminatin f the relatinship and referral f the matter t the Plice. ICT USE PROCEDURES 1. All users f ICT equipment are required t cmply with ur plicies and practices and student users must have cmpleted an ICT Cntract. 2. All users are required t lg ff frm a cmputer when leaving it fr any reasn, unless the cmputer is designated fr sle use and the settings lck access after a brief perid f time. 3. Students are t reprt any damage t any ICT equipment they are wrking n at the start f the lessn t the supervising teacher. 4. Students (unless authrised t d s) are nt t seek t adjust the hardware, even if it is an attempt t fix a prblem. 5. Students using the Internet need t be able t demnstrate the educatinal value f the site being visited r else they will be denied access t the cmputers fr the rest f the day. 6. Students are nt t install sftware, change settings, r save anything t any lcal hard drive f Cllege cmputers. All student files shuld be saved n the servers in their wn flder (drive H:). Alternatively, r additinally memry sticks (USB drives) can be used. 7. Students must nt tamper with anther student s ICT Equipment. D nt tuch the keybard, the muse, r any ther physical part f a cmputer, which is being used by anther student. If assistance is required, please ask a teacher. 8. Students are nt t bring their wn prgrams r CD s r DVD s (cntaining prgrams r audi r vide materials) and use them n any f the Cllege cmputers, except with the permissin f a teacher. 4 9. Use f messaging (including s) t cmmunicate in class time, remains at the directin f the class teacher. Such messaging must be fr specific class purpses. Inapprpriate use will lead t a denial f cmputer usage fr the remainder f the day. 10. All mnitrs may be left turned n, except when inapprpriate materials have been inadvertently accessed, in which case the mnitr must be turned ff and a teacher called immediately. 11. Students in Prep t Year 9 are nt permitted t enter any f the ICT Labs, r t use any ther Staines ICT equipment withut teacher supervisin. Senir students (Years 10-12) may be allwed entry with limited supervisin and their cntinued access is subject t nging apprpriate use. Limited supervisin is usually granted by a Cllege Curriculum leader. 12. Students with lessns in any f ICT Labs are t wait fr their teacher utside f the rm unless anther teacher/supervisr is present in the lab. 13. N bags may be brught near t any f the cmputers in any f the ICT Labs. 14. N fd r drink may be brught by students int the ICT Labs. 15. N liquid white-ut shall be brught int the ICT Labs r used at desks where cmputer equipment is installed. 16. Students may access the Cllege ICT resurces befre and after dedicated lessn times s lng.as the fcus is related t their educatin at the Cllege Access t the ICT labs will usually be restricted t times where adult supervisin has been rganised. Users f Cllege resurces cmpleting class wrk r assessment wrk have pririty ver recreatinal users. 17. When a student r staff member leaves Staines Memrial, their Lgin ID and accunt will be disabled. All curriculum areas use cmputers fr class wrk, electrnic infrmatin retrieval and assignment writing. Students frm Prep t Year 5 are prvided a generic access. T establish a persnal netwrk accunt (as district t a class based generic accunt) this cntract must be signed by students and parents. Each student is allcated a nminal printing a value. When they reach the credit limit f cpies per year, they must make a request t the Head f Teaching & Learning / Resurce Manager fr an extended credit. Extended credit will incur additinal fees t parents. Student Respnsibility I understand that the Internet can cnnect me t useful infrmatin stred n cmputers arund the wrld. I understand that the Cllege intranet cnnects me t useful infrmatin n cmputers arund the Cllege. While I have access t the Internet and Intranet: 1. I will use it nly fr educatinal purpses as directed by the teacher. 2. I will nt lk fr anything that is illegal, dangerus r ffensive. 3. If I accidentally cme acrss smething that is illegal, dangerus r ffensive, I will immediately and quietly infrm my teacher; and they will assist me t clear any ffensive pictures r infrmatin. 4. I will nt misrepresent r bring int disrepute Staines Memrial Cllege r the Christian principles we stand fr in any way whatsever. 5. I will nt reveal t anyne passwrd, hme addresses r phne numbers - mine r that f any ther persn. 6. I will nt use the Internet r Intranet t anny r ffend anyne else. 7. I understand sending r receiving inapprpriate messages by phne r ther technlgy is a breach f the telecmmunicatins act with significant penalties. Anyne can take a valid cncern t the Plice. 8. I understand that if the Cllege decides I have brken these cnditins, apprpriate actin will be taken. This is likely t include a lss f my Internet access fr a perid f time. I will abide by Australian laws regarding cmputer and Internet use. Hacking and cmputer hardware: I agree nt t tamper with the sftware r hardware that runs the cmputer system r use the system t hack ther cmputers. I will nt bring in r use sftware t discver passwrds r prbe the system fr infrmatin. I will nt attempt t fix brken cmputers r swap parts arund, but reprt prblems t the Help Desk. Cmputer vandalism is cnsidered a serius ffence. Security f My Persnal Accunt: My accunt will remain private and I will nt share my passwrd because I am slely respnsible fr all activity n my accunt, including Internet sites accessed, files used, cnsumptin f printer credit and Internet credits and file security. I will nt recrd my passwrd in any bvius place and I will change my passwrd regularly, abut every mnth, r earlier if I suspect smene has discvered it. Plagiarism (Cheating): Cpying anther persn s assignment r part f an assignment, pre-dne assignments frm the Internet r using materials frm a dcument r the Internet withut recgnising the authr and the dcument is knwn as plagiarism and is a frm f cheating. Plagiarism results in a student receiving zer fr an assignment item and casts dubt n the persn s integrity and hnesty. Accusatins f plagiarism can have an impact n later emplyment prspects. Crrectly using and referencing infrmatin and articles is cnsidered t be high level skill and will greatly imprve yur results. Often the predatr pretends t be a student and engages in sexy talk that leads t entrapment and frced meeting. Therefre: D nt give yur (r anther student s) phne number r address t anyne n the Internet. If yu suspect cntact with a predatr, cntact yur teacher, parents r the plice. D nt use the Cllege facilities t arrange scial meetings with friends utside the Cllege. The Cllege has a duty f care and yu must arrange yur scial engagements utside the Cllege with yur parent s cnsent. Internet Chat is nt acceptable unless under direct supervisin and linked t curse wrk. D nt prvide much persnal infrmatin n scial netwrk sites. Anything yu prvide is available fr public cnsideratin.
