4 Sectin B2 - Frmal RPL Assessment Prcess Stage 1. Prtfli f Evidence The evidence used fr the frmal RPL assessment must cmply with the rules f evidence frm the Australian Qualificatins Framewrk (AQF). This means that applicant evidence must be: valid it must cver the requirements f the unit/s f cmpetency sufficient the applicant needs t have sufficient evidence t demnstratetheir ability t meet the skills and knwledge requirements current the evidence must be current, and apprpriate t what is required within the industry at this pint in time authentic the applicant will be asked t verify that the evidence presented is their wn wrk relevant the evidence must be applicable t the unit/s f cmpetency. The assessr may als apply the fllwing principles: the evidence shuld be cnsistent being representative f a perid f time rather than ne specific instance. Fr example, a number f client testimnials gathered ver six mnths f a wrk perid is better evidence than ne single testimnial. the reliability f the evidence has it cme frm a reliable and verifiable surce? This is particularly relevant with testimnials, persnal statements and references frm clleagues, clients and emplyers. the range f evidence des it cme frm different cntexts, lcatins and times? Cllecting Evidence There is n ne way t apprach the gathering f evidence. T be granted advanced standing fr a specific unit/s f cmpetency the applicant must meet the requirement f the skills and knwledge f that unit/s f cmpetency. Evidence f cmpetency must be prvided in a manner that enables an assessr t readily ascertain the applicant having met such requirements. There are fur (4) types f evidence: i. Direct evidence ii. Indirect evidence iii. Persnal statements iv. Supplementary evidence Direct Evidence This reflects the applicants wn wrk and culd include: recrd keeping systems peratin schedules spreadsheets develped crrespndence (letters, mems, fax messages and s) applicant has written diary ntes applicant has made cmpleted jb cards fr wrk that applicant has dne during applicantr nrmal wrk activities jb specificatins develped by applicant prcedures mnthly, annual r financial reprts business plans appraisals r team reviews that applicant has cmpleted vides f applicant wrk phtgraphic evidence f applicant wrk. Direct evidence is anything that the applicant has either prduced themself r fr which they have been primarily respnsible. 5 Indirect Evidence This is infrmatin gathered frm thers abut the applicant, and culd include: magazine r newspaper articles abut applicant prizes, certificates r ther frms f cmmendatin minutes f meetings which cntain infrmatin n the applicants participatin and perfrmance in specific activities letters f appreciatin frm clients r wrk clleagues references frm previus emplyers vide recrdings/phtgraphs f activities the applicant has undertaken which can be verified by a third party reprts and testimnials. Indirect evidence is anything reflecting the value f wrk prduced by the applicant r the rle that cnfirms the applicant s ability t perfrm in the cntext f the cmpetencies fr which they are seeking RPL. This is the applicants pprtunity t cnsider the evidence that culd be prvided, f the variety f experience gained. The applicant shuld be prepared t supply examples f their wrk histry if available - if nt, this shuld nt deter the applicant frm seeking RPL, as the Assessr will wrk with each applicant thrughut the RPL prcess and give advice n evidence that may be apprpriate t the applicatin. Cnfidentiality Be aware f cnfidentiality issues regarding sensitive infrmatin, it is always best t check the privacy and cnfidentiality plicies f an rganisatin r btain authrisatin frm a supervisr if required, fr infrmatin t be used as part f an applicants evidence. Client names shuld be deleted and any financial figures r ther persnal details shuld be deleted r blacked ut and made unidentifiable. Persnal Statement A persnal statement plays many imprtant rles in helping the applicant prve their applicatin. It gives the applicant the pprtunity t explain the evidence that is specific t the applicants wn wrk situatin r industry s that the assessr can understand it and match it against the criteria fr the curse. It helps the applicant highlight the knwledge and understanding required t d their jb. It als gives the applicant an pprtunity t explain why they did what they did. The persnal statement is a cncise descriptin f the applicants wrk activities and the functins they carried ut, and shuld be related t the cmpetencies within the unit/units f cmpetency. It reflects the actins the applicant tk, their knwledge and understanding. The persnal statement shuld include: a brief descriptin f the cntext (situatins and circumstances) in which the applicant carried ut the wrk details f activities the applicant undertk an explanatin f the planning prcesses used an explanatin as t why the applicant made certain decisins, and the factrs which influenced the utcme; fr example, was it necessary t fllw cmpany plicy r any specific legislatin? What underlying principles were applied? Relate any applicable theries t the evidence the decisins regarding fllw-up f the utcmes f the applicants activities any ther similar situatins the applicant handled relevant t the RPL. 6 Third Party Reprts By asking a supervisr, emplyer, manager r ther relevant referee t cmplete a third party reprt, they will be prviding valuable evidence cnfirming the wrk experience, skills and knwledge that the applicant has demnstrated in the perfrmance f their wrk r ther activities relevant t the unit/s f cmpetency. The applicants referees may be cntacted fr cnfirmatin f infrmatin given. Cnfirm each f their third parties cmplete this reprt by prviding verificatin, with examples, f hw the applicant can apply wrkplace skills and knwledge as specified within Skills Evidence and Knwledge Evidence Frms. 6. USB Prtfli cmpilatin example Once the applicant has cmpiled all the requirements as set ut in the checklist n the Prtfli cver page, this infrmatin is t be cllated and upladed t a USB stick, enabling electrnic strage f the students evidence fr the Cllege recrds. Fr the effective and efficient identificatin f the applicants capabilities it is imprtant that they make an effrt t present their prtfli f evidence in a structured manner. Prtflis that are sent withut supprting dcuments r material will be returned t the applicant fr cmpletin. Faxed prtflis will nt be accepted. If the applicants evidence is in anther name please include certified cpies f dcuments pertaining t name change, such as marriage certificate r divrce decree. 10 Include a self-addressed, pre-paid pstage bag if yu require the return f yur USB stick. The Educatinal Pathways Department will cnfirm receipt f the Prtfli f Evidence with the student. Stage 2. Initial Interview with Assessr A telephne interview by a qualified Assessr will be rganised with the applicant. The Assessr will review with the applicant, the prtfli f evidence and map yur experience, skills and knwledge t the unit/s f cmpetency being applied fr RPL. It is at this pint that yu will be able t identify any previus wrk experience and discuss this with yur Assessr. During the cnversatin with the Assessr the applicant will be asked key questins t evaluate yur verbal and theretical knwledge in the unit/s f cmpetency. This prcess is dcumented and the Assessr will add this dcumentatin t the applicants evidence file. If the interview demnstrates yur verbal and theretical knwledge t a sufficient standard, the next stage (Stage 3.) is t bserve and assess yur perfrmance in practice, thrugh the bservatin f practical tasks perfrmed either in the wrkplace r in a simulated wrkplace envirnment. Stage 3. Demnstratin/Observatin f Tasks Practical tasks prvide the pprtunity fr the student t demnstrate the applicatin f skills and knwledge f a unit/s f cmpetency. The Assessr will rganise with the applicant and their emplyer t cnduct a practical skills demnstratin at yur wrkplace (if apprpriate) r n campus in a simulated wrk envirnment. The applicant will be prvided with the details f the tasks t be undertaken and the demnstratin requirements, the Assessr will assess their cmpetence by asking them t cmplete certain tasks. This is the applicants pprtunity t demnstrate their cmpetence n a practical level. The assessment will fcus n the skills required in the wrk activities which relate t the unit/s f cmpetency being applied fr RPL. This prcess is dcumented and the Assessr will add this dcumentatin t the applicants evidence file. Stage 4. Final Interview with Assessr The Assessr will advise the applicant: f the unit/s f cmpetency they have successfully demnstrated as being cmpetent in further infrmatin that may be required if the applicant has skills gaps, these may be addressed thrugh additinal training. Nte that RPL is recrded at unit f cmpetency level there is n partial RPL fr a unit f cmpetency. If the applicant has any questins during the RPL prcess, they shuld cntact their Assessr.
