1 Software Announcement June 15, 2004 V2.1 enables on demand computing to help improve server utilization Overview In today s highly competitive business environment, the ability to reduce costs, improve the return on IT investments, save labor, and support business growth in a cost-effective manner are more important than ever. New on demand automation solutions from IBM can help you achieve these goals. Today many data centers have deployed their servers, networks, and storage in a just-in-case manner, where workload peaks and valleys are supported with excess system, storage, and network capacity. Unfortunately, this approach often results in lower overall utilization and a higher total cost of ownership. IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager, an on demand product, helps you to effectively address these critical challenges and improve data center operations, all in accordance with business priorities. Tivoli Provisioning Manager helps boost server-to-administrator ratios and reduce human error by automating the manual and repetitive steps required to provision a production server or to update it with the latest fixpack or security patch. By utilizing existing hardware, software, and network devices without rewiring, you can minimize implementation times and achieve a fast return on investment. allows you to create, customize, and use automation workflows. Prebuilt workflows provide control and configuration of major vendors products, while customized workflows can implement your company s data center best practices and procedures. These procedures can then be executed in a consistent manner. In addition to out-of-the-box automation workflows, new workflows are frequently added and available from the IBM Orchestration and Provisioning Automation Library (OPAL). In addition, IBM has provided third parties with a program, tools, and training to enable them to create new workflows that can be published and shared through OPAL. Companies can choose manual, semi-automatic or automatic mode, allowing them to choose how quickly they will evolve to become a dynamic on demand business. The also includes DB2 UDB Workgroup Unlimited Edition V8.1 with FP3, IBM Directory Server V5.2, and components of IBM WebSphere Application Server V5.1. 2 Description New in Tivoli Provisioning Manager V2.1: Integrated storage capacity provisioning with the IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center with Advanced Provisioning solution Improved integration with IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console, IBM Tivoli Monitoring, and IBM Tivoli Configuration Manager Out-of-the-box workflows for automating operating systems, middleware, and applications Common Management Database (CMDB) serves as a central repository for storing hardware and software information about your data center Initial discovery of hardware and configuration drift Enablement of application topology design for J2EE and WebSphere Application Server applications Improved reporting with Tivoli Data Warehouse Support for additional languages (English, French, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Italian) Enablement of virtual server definition to support provisioning of LPARs and VMWare virtual machines More powerful workflow development language and additional improvements in workflow problem determination Enhancements designed to improve performance, usability, and accessibility IT faces multiple daunting challenges. Meet the growing demands of the business. Ensure continual resource availability. Support increasing numbers of users and resources with a high standard of quality. In their efforts to reach these goals, today s typical enterprise data center has over provisioned the data center. Over-provisioning is the dedication of sufficient computing capacity to each individual application to support its individual highest potential user demand. Over-provisioning, in a distributed environment, typically yields an average server utilization of less than 20% and creates static limits to scalability. Until now, the reality of over-provisioning has been high costs accompanied by unpredictable service levels. V2.1, helps change this costly habit by offering data centers high service levels and utilization improvements through infrastructure automation. IBM Tivoli on demand can change the resource provisioning and allocation procedures in the data center. Rather than dedicating servers to an application, this product allows you to pool servers and automatically provision them just-in-time to support critical and business-prioritized applications. When the servers are no longer needed, they are returned to the resource pool for use by any other identified application. As a result, service levels can generally be met with fewer, more highly utilized servers. V2.1, through workflows, automates the manual provisioning and deployment of servers, operating systems, middleware, applications, virtual environments, SAN- and NAS-based storage resources, and network devices acting as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers. Tivoli Provisioning Manager comes with a predefined set of workflows supporting products from such major vendors as IBM, Sun, Cisco, Foundry Networks, and open standards platforms such as Linux. also allows a company to automate its own proven data center procedures and processes either by modifying the predefined workflows or creating new workflows. These workflows can automate your unique data center processes including installing, configuring, and deploying servers, operating systems, middleware, applications, and network devices. Software patches and upgrades can be applied as required to improve security and availability. provides the mechanics, the what, and how of IBM on demand automation. The what It provides the provisioning and configuration of servers, operating systems (including virtual machines), middleware, applications, storage infrastructure, and network devices acting as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers. The how It provides prebuilt workflows and workflow enablement to execute your company s best policies, practices, and procedures in a consistent error-free manner. If a test center department wants to automate its test environment set-up procedures and then push a button to have those environments automatically deployed IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager is the solution. The following highlights some of this functionality: Integrated bare-metal OS install. IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager leverages common data center tools such as AIX NIM and Linux RDP to provision OS images onto servers from bare-metal. Application topologies. Using IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager, you can more quickly deploy complete service topologies in your data center environments. Using a graphical topology-builder, customers can now more effortlessly create, store, and deploy new topologies based on application requirements. For example, if you want to promote an application through various phases of testing from functional testing to stress testing and finally into production you can leverage the topology capability to automate test infrastructure build-outs, thereby helping reduce overall test time requirements and reducing the need for test administration overhead. Storage capacity provisioning Automated storage capacity provisioning is provided by an integrated solution, IBM TotalStorage Center with Advanced Provisioning. This solution combines the automation capabilities of with the storage provisioning capabilities of IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center to simplify and automate your cross discipline storage provisioning tasks. is shipped with storage operation building blocks that can be easily linked together to create flexible storage provisioning workflows that support data center best practices. Support for virtual environments. Leverage Tivoli Provisioning Manager to now create and remove virtual machine instances and to deploy complete software stacks into virtual server instances. Out-of-the-box workflows support VMWare provisioning onto Windows and Linux servers

3 Implementing automation workflows. Once the operating system is installed, employees meet to discuss the next steps. They are going to plan the deployment of the server into the network. This may require a server specialist, a network specialist, an application specialist, and the network architect. IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager comes with over 150 automated workflows out of the box, but also enables your company to define and automate your unique data center tasks and procedures. This helps reduce costs and documentation while minimizing human error. Using, the data center s most experienced personnel model their knowledge and experience into a repository through a simple GUI interface. Then these automated workflows can be executed by any level of administrator or operator, even under the pressure of an unanticipated production outage. Consolidate testing center environments Many times line-of-business applications only face real-world performance and stress testing when they go into production. Execution of a comprehensive test plan, including extensive stress testing, can yield applications with less failures, higher production service levels and low help desk costs. IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager can enable production-scale load testing. Through the automated repurposing of a small pool of servers, test centers can stage and test applications. As an example, from a pool of 20 servers, any 4 of 20 defined application staging environments can be tested with 5 servers each. These servers can then be easily repurposed to load test one specific environment. Application server support IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager provisions application environments ranging from single server configurations to complex application topologies consisting of Web server clusters and application servers with back-end databases. Applications supported include Web servers such as IBM WebSphere, BEA WebLogic, Apache HTTP Server, and others. Citrix MetaFrame support Shipped with IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager are workflows to support a Citrix MetaFrame XP Presentation Server FR3 server farm. automates the provisioning and deployment of servers to help reduce deployment times and error-prone manual procedures. Enhanced IBM Tivoli software integration When a new server is provisioned, IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager can deploy and configure the Tivoli Management Agent across a network of servers. Provided workflows enable integration of IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager pristine install functionality with IBM Tivoli Configuration Manager s powerful software distribution capabilities to permit a complete bare-metal installation from operating system, to application. In addition, IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager is tightly integrated with IBM Tivoli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator allowing automated tasks to be run in response to or in anticipation of changing business conditions creating a truly automated on demand environment. Enhanced IBM hardware integration IBM xseries and pseries servers are supported, including pristine installations. These autonomic functions provide: Self-configuration: As Tivoli Provisioning Manager manually, or Tivoli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator dynamically move servers between resource pools and production environments, your data center s workflows are executed automatically to configure servers, operating systems, middleware, applications, storage, and network devices acting as switches, routers, firewalls, and load balancers. Self-configuration can be implemented in an evolutionary manner. You can progress from manual execution, to semi-automatic alerted execution and finally, when comfortable, full automation. Self-optimization: IBM Tivoli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator s Global Resource Manager gathers capacity requirements from the servers it manages and controls overall optimization of the identified solution. It has two primary responsibilities: making optimal resource allocation decisions and maintaining control of the application infrastructure. Considering the different server requirements for each application environment, it determines where the servers are to be allocated. Self-healing: IBM Tivoli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator can detect failed servers within clusters and call automated processes to move servers dynamically from either resource pools or less critical business processes. IBM Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing IBM Tivoli software products are priced using IBM Tivoli s Enhanced Value-Based Pricing. The Enhanced Value-Based Pricing system is based upon the IBM Tivoli Environment-Managed Licensing Model, which uses a managed-environment approach whereby price is determined by what is managed rather than the number and type of product components installed. For example, all servers monitored with IBM Tivoli s monitoring product (IBM Tivoli Monitoring) require entitlements sufficient for those servers. Other IBM Tivoli products may manage clients, client devices, agents, network nodes, users, or other items, and are licensed and priced accordingly. Unlike typical systems management licensing models that require entitlements of specific software components to specific systems, the IBM Tivoli Environment-Managed Licensing Model provides the customer flexibility to deploy its IBM Tivoli software products within its environment in a manner that can address and respond to the customer s evolving architecture. That is, as the architecture of a customer s environment changes, the customer s implementation of IBM Tivoli software can be altered as needed without affecting the customer s license requirements (as long as the customer does not exceed its entitlements to the software). Under Enhanced Value-Based Pricing, licensing and pricing of server-oriented applications are determined based upon the server s use in the customer s environment. Typically, such applications are licensed and priced in a manner that corresponds to each installed and activated processor of the server managed by the IBM Tivoli application to help correlate price to value while offering a simple solution. Where a server is physically partitioned, this approach is modified. This partitioning technique is the approach used with systems that have either multiple cards or multiple frames, each of which can be configured independently. For servers capable of physical partitioning (for example, IBM s pseries Scalable POWERparallel Systems servers, Sun Ultra servers, and HP Superdome servers), an entitlement is required for each processor in the physical partition being managed by the Tivoli application. For example, assume that a server has 24 processors installed in aggregate. If this server is not partitioned, entitlements are required for all 24 processors. If, however, it is physically partitioned into three partitions each containing eight processors, and Tivoli products were managing only one of the three partitions, then entitlements would be required for the eight processors on the physical partition managed by the IBM Tivoli application. For servers with virtual or logical partitions, entitlements are required for all installed and activated processors on the server. For each IBM Tivoli application managing a clustered environment, licensing is based on the cumulative number of installed and activated processors on each server in the cluster. Where the cluster includes physically partitioned servers, the considerations described above concerning physically partitioned servers apply as well. Enhanced Value-Based Pricing recognizes the convergence of RISC/UNIX and Microsoft Windows/Intel technologies, in order to simplify the customers licensing requirements, and to provide a smoother, more scalable model. Pricing and licensing does not differentiate between non-zseries server platforms or operating systems. For some products, this platform neutrality extends to zseries and other host servers as well. IBM Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing terminology definitions Network Node or Node Network Nodes include routers, switches, hubs, and bridges that contain a network management agent. A single Network Node may contain any number of interfaces or ports. Partitions A server s resources (CPU, memory, I/O, interconnects and buses) may be divided according to the needs of the applications running on the server. This partitioning can be implemented with physical boundaries (Physical Partitions) or logical boundaries (Logical Partitions). Physical Partitions are defined by a collection of processors dedicated to a workload and can be used with systems that have either multiple cards or multiple frames, each of which can be configured independently. In this method, the partitions are divided along hardware boundaries and processors, and the I/O boards, memory, and interconnects are not shared. Logical Partitions are defined by software rather than hardware and allocate a pool of processing resources to a collection of workloads. These partitions, while separated by software boundaries, share hardware components and run in one or more physical partitions. Port A port is the physical connection between a device and the network. Processor A processor is a functional unit in a computer that interprets and executes instructions. A processor consists of at least an instruction control unit and an arithmetic and logic unit. Server A server is a computer system that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications to one or more clients and/or other devices over a network. Examples include, but are not limited to, file servers, print servers, mail servers, database servers, application servers, and Web servers

8 Standby or backup systems For programs running or resident on backup machines, IBM defines three types of situations: cold, warm, and hot. In the cold and warm situations, a separate entitlement for the copy on the backup machine is normally not required and typically no additional charge applies. In a hot backup situation, the customer needs to acquire another license or entitlements sufficient for that server. All programs running in backup mode must be solely under the customer s control, even if running at another enterprise s location. As a practice, the following are definitions and allowable actions concerning the copy of the program used for backup purposes: Cold A copy of the program may reside, for backup purposes, on a machine as long as the program is not started. There is no additional charge for this copy. Warm A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine and is started, but is idling, and is not doing any work of any kind. There is no additional charge for this copy. Hot A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine, is started, and is doing work. The customer must acquire a license or entitlements for this copy and there will generally be an additional charge. Doing work, includes, for example, production, development, program maintenance, and testing. It also could include other activities such as mirroring of transactions, updating of files, synchronization of programs, data or other resources (for example, active linking with another machine, program, database, or other resource, and so on), or any activity or configurations that would allow an active hot switch or other synchronized switch over between programs, databases, or other resources to occur. In the case of a program or system configuration that is designed to support a high availability environment by using various techniques (for example, duplexing, mirroring of files or transactions, maintaining a heartbeat, active linking with another machine, program, database, or other resource, and so on), the program is considered to be doing work in the hot situation and a license or entitlement must be purchased. Product Web site A complete list of products and licensing documents is available at Web site Passport Advantage Through the Passport Advantage Agreement, customers may receive discounted pricing based on their total volume of eligible products, across all IBM brands, acquired worldwide. The volume is measured by determining the total Passport Advantage points value of the applicable acquisitions. Passport Advantage points are only used for calculating the entitled Passport Advantage discount. To determine the required Tivoli product configuration under Passport Advantage, the Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing Model applies. The customer s environment is evaluated on a per-product basis. Use the following two-step process to determine the total Passport Advantage points value: 1. Analyze the customer environment to determine the number of charge units for a product. The quantity of each product s part numbers to be ordered is determined by that analysis. 2. Order the Passport Advantage part numbers. A Passport Advantage point value, which is the same worldwide for a specific part number regardless of where the order is placed, is assigned to each Tivoli product part number. The Passport Advantage point value for the applicable part number multiplied by the quantity for that part number will determine the Passport Advantage points for that Tivoli product part number. The sum of these Passport Advantage points determines the Passport Advantage point value of the applicable Tivoli product authorizations which then may be aggregated with the point value of other applicable Passport Advantage product acquisitions to determine the total Passport Advantage points value. The discounted pricing available through Passport Advantage is expressed in the form of Suggested Volume Prices (SVPs), which vary depending on the SVP level. Each SVP level is assigned a minimum total Passport Advantage point value, which must be achieved, in order to qualify for that SVP level. Media packs and documentation packs do not carry Passport Advantage points and are not eligible for SVP discounting. For additional information on Passport Advantage, refer to the following Web site The following Passport Advantage part number categories may be orderable: License and Software Maintenance 12 months This is the product authorization with maintenance to the first anniversary date.
