1 OP 4: Building Design and Cnstructin 3 pints available A. Credit Ratinale This credit recgnizes institutins that have incrprated envirnmental features int their design and cnstructin prjects. Decisins made during the design phase, such as where t lcate the building and hw it is riented, can yield significant energy savings and reduce impacts n the site. By designing and building fr enhanced indr envirnmental quality (IEQ), institutins can ensure their buildings prvide safe, healthy, and prductive spaces fr the campus cmmunity. While ther credits als capture many f the impacts f green buildings (e.g. n campus energy cnsumptin and water use), this credit recgnizes institutins that have cmprehensive green cnstructin and renvatin prgrams and that pursue third party certificatin f new campus buildings. B. Criteria Institutin-wned buildings that were cnstructed r underwent majr renvatins in the previus five years are: 1) Certified under a green building rating system fr new cnstructin and majr renvatins (e.g. the LEED fr New Cnstructin and Majr Renvatins, LEED fr Cmmercial Interirs, LEED fr Healthcare, and/r LEED fr Cre and Shell Green Building Rating Systems) 2) Certified Living under the Living Building Challenge (LBC) And/r 3) Designed and built in accrdance with frmally adpted green building guidelines and plicies that cver all f the fllwing tpics: Impacts n the surrunding site Energy cnsumptin Building-level energy metering Usage f envirnmentally preferable materials Indr envirnmental quality Water cnsumptin Building-level water metering Building space that meets multiple criteria listed abve shuld nt be duble-cunted. Applicability This credit applies t institutins that have any building space that is eligible fr certificatin under a green building rating system fr new cnstructin and fr which cnstructin r majr renvatin was cmpleted during the previus 5 years. [See Eligible Building Space (Design and Cnstructin ) in Standards and Terms.] D. Scring Institutins earn the maximum f 3 pints fr this credit by having all eligible building space cmpleted during the previus five years certified at the highest achievable level under a green building rating system fr new cnstructin and majr renvatins used by an Established Green Building Cuncil (GBC) (e.g. LEED fr Existing Buildings: O&M, certificatin level Platinum) and/r certified Living under the Living Building Challenge. Incremental pints are awarded based n the percentage f eligible building space that is certified at varius levels and/r designed and cnstructed in accrdance with green building plicies r guidelines. Fr example, an institutin that had 100 percent f its eligible building space certified at the minimum level wuld earn 1.5 pints fr this credit, while an institutin that had 50 percent f its eligible building space certified at the minimum level wuld earn 0.75 pints. Buildings fr which certificatin is pending shuld nt be cunted as certified space, and these buildings may be excluded frm the institutin s prfile fr up t 2 years fllwing registratin with a rating system. This credit fcuses n buildings fr which cnstructin was cmpleted within the five years prir t the anticipated date f submissin. Sampling and Data Standards Include all buildings that meet the criteria fr eligible building space (design and cnstructin) as defined in Standards and Terms; reprting n a sample r subset f buildings is nt allwed. An institutin may use any standard definitin f flr area (e.g. ASHRAE, ANSI/BOMA, IECC), as lng as it uses the same definitin fr bth the ttal flr area f eligible building space and the flr area f building space that is certified and/r sustainably designed and cnstructed.
